  1. I am one year post op and I am still losing hair. I didn't start losing it until I was about 7 mos out. I had a very thick head of hair and I at this point I am considering shopping for a wig. I have been on biotin and stayed steady on protein intake (60 grams) since just a few weeks postoperative. Have hd blood work and all looks fine. Most people I talk to are starting to get their hair back at one year and mine just keeps getting worse. Anybody like me out there? Would love some advice, words of encouragement!

    weight gain after solid foods?

As soon as I started on solid foods, the scale went up! Just a few pounds, then it took a couple of weeks to get back and now I am losing again. Not like the first couple of weeks after surgery but a pound or so a week. I think my body is still adjusting. Hang in there! The hardest part is knowing you're not eating much and watching the scale go up! Ugh! But it will settle up soon. Good luck!
  3. I know I should know the whys and why nots about not drinking 30 min before during and after eating but what is the real reason? I have such a hard time with this!! It's a tough habit to break!

Liquid Stage: What do you eat?

I had a 3 week liquids only diet, too. It is tough so I know how you feel. I added sugar free Popsicles in cherry, grape, orange. And the no sugar added fudgsicles were a favorite! Hang in there, just take it day by day and in no time you'll be doing the mushies!
  5. Anybody have any "miracle" treatment to gid rid of or reduce scars from surgical incisions?

    wls in Dallas tx.

Definitely Dr. Nicholson whose office is at Baylor Plano; he did my surgery at Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas. I am one month out; he did a fantastic job. I've had no problems whatsoever. He has a great staff who are always available when you need them. You just can't go wrong using Dr. Nicholson.
  7. When is it okay to take ibuprofen? I am one month post op and I really need to take some Aleve for a non-surgery related problem!

    Ibuprofen

Thx for all the responses. I just heard back from the doctor - that I should never take ibuprofen because it can cause an ulcer. it probably only does that with prolonged continued use, but I don't think I want to take a chance!

    Mushy Foods

    My doc says 3 weeks
  10. Protein drinks ( something you like, you will be drinking a lot), Water, crystal lite mixing powders, no sugar Popsicles, comfy pjs, extra pillow for tummy, gas x strips, chewable Vitamins, a pill crusher (if you need it), prescribed meds. You will sleep a lot , drink a lot and walk as much as you can to help with gas pains. Best of luck to you!
  11. Yes! I have been on soft foods for a week now and I started out the same way. I can take more in now even after just a week. Just keep on an eating schedule adding a little more when you can but don't force it. Your tummy is still swollen, a week will make a big difference. Last night for dinner I had 3 good sized shrimp, a couple bites of tomato/avocado salad and even a couple of bites of pasta. I was pleasantly full. It will get easie

    Surgery Yesterday

The misery and discomfort just after surgery made most of us question our decision, but I promise it gets so much better. The gas pain will go away, for me it took 3-4 days. After that things got so much better. I'm 16 days post op and it has gotten better/easier day by day. Hang in there! It will get better!

    Avoiding Protein Shakes

I can actually tolerate the Protein Shakes okay but I am just sick of them. I am still on liquids (til July 5) so I drink one 20 oz bottle of no carb Isopure at has 40 gr Protein. I like it better really cold over ice. Then I will either have a shake or another 10-15 oz of Isopure to get to 60+ gr protein. I can't wait til mushies so I don't have to depend on protein drinks! Good luck to you!

    Kinda Scared now

I started having panic attacks about 3 days before, on Thursday I actually dialed the number to cancel my Tuesday surgery, but the nurse was gone for the day. By Friday morning, I had calmed down. Saturday night nervous again. By surgery day I was calm and knew I was doing this for all the right reasons. Everyone goes thru the nerves stage, but take a few deep breaths, reason with yourself, and move on. It will all be fine! You will do great!

    getting rid of the gas

I am 9 days post op (woo hoo!) and I had terrible gas pains for about 4 days. The gas x strips didn't touch it. I guess the walking helped. I think part of mine was the gas they pumped in and the other part was just being gassy period. My stomach would rumble and rumble but nothing would come out! UNTIL about Day 4 when I had filled myself so full of liquids I guess something had to give! Anyway, I know that's TMI but hang in there, once you get past that part, you will be much more comfortable!

    overwhelmed first 48 hours

Take a deep breath! It will all be fine. The next few days will be tough but each day will get better and easier. You do have to work at getting the liquids in, even if a little at a time. Once the swelling goes down, it will get easier and easier. Hang in there and take care of yourself, it is up to you to carry yourself through it with a little help from your friends of course!! I promise you will get better. I am 9 days out and was feeling very overwhelmed at first too. Already I am feeling like a normal person again! Although still a bit tired. You can do it!!!

Haha on the dog's chew toy but I can relate! Thanks for the support!
  19. I am 8 days post op and I am SO tired. Am drinking 80 plus oz , most of which is protein, and have been doing this since almost the beginning. I am dying for something else in my stomach besides liquid but I still have 13 days of liquids left. I don't know how I can make it that long!! Help, I need encouragement!

Only about 20-32 oz of actual water
  22. Anybody have this happen? I feel fine other than gas pains, soreness on left side (from surgery) . Liquids and proteins have been going down fine, so there are no obvious causes. Any body have similar experience?

Pinkish urine 5 days post op

Just talked to doc; all is fine. Unless it doesn't go away or unless I start to run a fever. Nevertheless, I will take it easy today!

    24hrs after surgery

It will pass, I promise! Think positive thoughts. The first few days can be trying and yes even miserable for some. But it will be worth it. Just take it an hour at a time, a few hours at a time, a day at a time and before you know it you will be feeling better and stronger and will be ready to move into your new life. Saying a prayer for you!
  25. I am 4 days post op and am having terrible gas pains! Any thoughts on how to reduce it? I am using the gas x strips, plenty of walking and drinking liquids only. Help!
