Any Over The Road Truck Drivers
PdxMan replied to phil's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe Candyman is also a truck driver. You can search for him using the search function. -
Soooo ... whilst not a woman ... I did have my moobs, which, are completely gone now. I know it's not the same, but I would definitely wait at LEAST a year from having sleeve surgery before considering ANY kind of plastics. You may be quite surprised at how your body responds to the weight loss. I've have read posts on here where women have completely lost their boobs down to A cups and others who have lost only a couple cup sizes. Most of the complaints are about the pancakes left on their chests and they are actually looking at getting them enhanced. You would hate to have a reduction only to have to get them filled up again a year later.

Help Sought Understanding Protein Absorption
PdxMan replied to LouiseC's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Do you have a nutrition store in or near the town you live? There are many protein powders out there you can mix with water/soy/almond milk. I would drop by there and find a whey protein powder. -
I think any way you look at it, >150 to lose or < 150, the sleeve is the best choice. If, after awhile post sleeve, you feel you are not able to follow the rules of the sleeve and want to go the malabsorption route, you can have a switch or RNY. But for me, one year out, I still have excellent restriction and know beyond a doubt that if I had another 100 to lose, the sleeve would help me be successful. And all my plumbing is right where it's supposed to be and my pyloric valve functions as God meant it to.

I'm summarizing your quote. I hope I don't take anything out of context. Please correct me if it do. Also know that I am not angry, upset or anything. Just having an exchange of ideas here, so let's not get heated. Might be a good time to mention THIS article again. As far as speaking into a vaccuum, I used to be a Hoover, for sure, but not anymore! (get it ... Hoover ... ) But I interpret your posts as saying if I do not also mention that I had surgery to aid in my eating less and being able to exercise, than I am ommitting the truth which, is lying, therefore affecting my integrity. If this is not your intention, then I am misinterpreting your posts for sure.
-
No, I understand that ... but my question was, if I don't tell people about my eye surgery, and now I can see fantastic, you are saying that is an ommission of the truth and a loss of integrity? That my shoulder surgery should be mentioned before I play tennis because my serve is not like it was before. I had surgery which made it better. The sleeve is not solely responsible for my weight loss. It is a tool that assists me to do exactly what I am telling people who feel it is OK to inquire about something I consider personal. Now, if I said smaller portions and exercise and they followed up with, "And that's it?", then you cross into the area of integrity by ommission or telling them something else, I think. But I am not going to explain every tool that I use in my life to get by day to day. As I said, if you feel you do, then God bless you, but it kind of feels like you are getting on a soap box here.
-
It really depends on where you start, but I have seen many people, myself included, lose 100% of their excess weight. I think it depends on how much excess weight you have and for how long you are able to maintain strict compliance with the lifestyle. Whether it is sleeve or bypass, someone 4 months out can do an awful lot of damage to a tub if ice cream ... and their weightloss.

Maybe I'm just thick, but I'm not exactly sure how to interpret your post. So, if someone comes up to me and says, "You look great, how did you do it?", if I don't tell them I had surgery, then I have no integrity? I had lasik surgery 10+ years ago ... about a week ago, I'm at the swimming pool and someone comments to myself and another person what a beautiful sunset it was. I agree, but the other person says that he can't really tell because he doesn't have his glasses on. So then, I am obligated to tell him that I had surgery on my eyes and that is why I can see the sunset without using eyeglasses? Is that true? I am a tennis player and my serve was suffering from shoulder pain. I had surgery to remove a quarter inch piece of bone which did the trick. After healing, my serve was smoking fast and far more accurate. After each ace, does my integrity suffer because I don't explain that I had surgery? Prevarication is to intentially mislead ... is that what we are doing? A co-worker approached me about my weight loss because she was concerned about my health. We had recently had another co-worker leave work because of cancer and the treatments were not allowing her to continue. I think she had a valid reason to ask me and I responded the way I mentioned above. Again, she agreed and was happy that I was healthy. Now prior, I had neighbors ask me and I told them the truth. I was then drilled as to why I can't do it on my own ... don't I have any willpower ... haven't I ever watched biggest loser ... It is what I am comfortable with and that is all that matters. Everyone should do what they feel is right and not feel obligated to be the WLS poster child if that is not what they are comfortable with. If that is your thing, then go for it. More power to you. Seriously. ** edit ** Now, if someone came up to me and told me they were needing help with weight loss or related issues, or wanted me to help them do what I did, then no doubt, I would tell them my story. But until then ...

Men With Before And After Pics
PdxMan replied to ttisawsm's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Why, thank you. It has been the easiest, hardest, most rewarding thing I have ever done ... and I feel great! -
In a way, I kind of put it back on the asker ... "You know, we Americans live in such a super-sized world of huge portions that I finally made a change to eat smaller portions. I got rid of all my dinner plates (true) and bought nice salad plates and that is what I use. I eat about 1/4 what I used to. I'm also getting exercise 4 to 5 times per week. Sometimes running, doing elliptical, swimming ..." The response is usually, "That is such a good idea! I need to get rid of my plates and go with smaller portions, too." ... and that is about the extent of the conversation about my weight. I never lie or mislead. It is the absolute truth.

Surgery In 8 Days Will My Liver Shrink Enough?

I don't think it was dumb at all. You can never guess what the folks in the medical profession will do. We merely march to their drum. -
Surgery In 8 Days Will My Liver Shrink Enough?
PdxMan replied to shanbutler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should be fine, just be VERY compliant. You don't want them starting and either canceling your surgery or converting or opening you up because of an enlarged liver. -
So, this may also happen to the women, but I don't know. My torso is soooo much hairier than it was before. I was never what I would call a *hairy* guy, but rather had just the right amount. Now, being down 120 pounds, it just seems so much denser and darker. I was at the dermatologist a couple weeks ago and asked him about it. He said it is because the overall surface area has shrunk. I haven't gained any hair, it just the hairs are much closer to each other now giving that appearance. That makes sense ... Anybody else experiencing this?

Water Wait Gain
PdxMan replied to Tanisha Nolen Sanyang's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
As you can see, I kept your original post in cache, just in case you came back in and edited it out. Basically, you had two routes to go. You could set your ego aside and apologize to our moderators or you could have edited your post taking out your nasty comment to Susan and make some inane comment to me. Hmmm ... -

Bdiddy, wow ... You have stepped over the line. Susan happens to be one of the moderators. I believe the veteran moderator. So, yeah, she does call the shots here. I'm guessing the joke will be on you for not being able to comply with a simple request. Your last comments are not appreciated. *edit* Wanted to add that the first request came from MissDiva ... Another moderator ... -

Keeping Options Open - Thanks For Sharing Your Stories On This Board :)
PdxMan replied to AngelEyesInNJ's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Definitely research who you want to have be your surgeon. I was uncomfortable with going to Mexico, so my research led me to Dr Umbach in Las Vegas. It was outpatient for $10,400. It was a great experience and I would recommend him to everyone. Plus, you get a little vacation in Vegas, BABY! -

Worried About How Little I Can Eat 4 Months Out.
PdxMan replied to TMyers1471's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Also, wanted to add ... Now at 13 months out, I can eat about double what I ate at 4 months out, but in comparison, it is still a tiny amount. My wife, who is like 130 pounds, can eat more than double what I can at dinner, so I still have to be conscience of what I eat, but I do allow myself some frivolous eating now. -
Worried About How Little I Can Eat 4 Months Out.
PdxMan replied to TMyers1471's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was in the same boat. For me, this was one of the challenges of the sleeve and why this is NOT the "easy way out" of dieting. It is a challenge. Everything you put in your mouth HAS to be nutritionally relevant. You just can't afford frivolous eating. With the restriction I had then, and the amount of exercise I was doing, I had to basically eat all the time. I was never hungry (and for the most part, still never am) but I just kept on the same schedule. I didn't eat to the point of being uncomfortable, but I always had something in arm's reach. 4 months out, I was hitting about 800-900 calories doing this. -
HERE is a thread that gives a lot (and mine) of people's reasons. Pretty much echos what has been posted on this thread.

I had lasik surgery a few years ago ... I guess I CHEATED! Man ... some people.
