Stretching pouch 1 week post op?
PdxMan replied to karensdRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK, let's start off by saying you are fine. Totally agree with Stephanie about being conscientious about taking smaller drinks. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Since you had VSG, know that you do not have a pouch, it is called a sleeve because it resembles a long sleeved shirt whereas RnY procedures actually create a little pouch about the size of a golf ball. Your food is still going to pass through the pyloric valve. Most of the stretchy part, the fundus, was removed, so when you say stretching, it is not like how our stomach's distended after going large at Thanksgiving. So, what is happening? You are still early out. You had 85% of your stomach removed. Surely you know your stomach is going to be swollen, right? At this time, you cannot drink very much as you have a tiny stomach now and what you do have is quite swollen. As you heal, that swelling is going to go down, so it will appear you can drink more. Also know that you are consuming liquids. This passes right through the pyloric valve and into the intestines. Once you get on eating "real" food, you will begin to feel the restriction. Until then, just take small drinks and stay off the scale. -

Two weeks post for me. You'll know when you are ready and your body will tell you when it's not! My wife made an embankment of pillows for me which allowed me to transition nicely. -

@@rayanne, are your stats updated in your profile? I was just checking it out and it says you are pre-surgery, yet you have a surgery date and I was curious if your other stats were updated? -

I think you may be surprised about how people feel about your A cup. (Hey, we're not in The powder Room, so this gives me license to talk about them) IMO, one of the aspects women identify themselves is by their cup size. Which, is understandable. Then, when undergoing such dramatic weight loss and therefore, change in cup size, they see having a smaller cup as having a deficiency. Myself, and I know many other men (and women) really do go by the old adage of, "More than a mouthful is a waste." Especially in a summer dress. I am not disparaging those with larger cups, I am just one who likes the look of a well proportioned lady wearing clothes which accent their features. -

I have two meetings at work today. I am going to have to keep it toned down today or I'm going to make comments I'm sure I'll regret. Being tired and in pain is just not a good combination for me. Actually, I think I will cut out early and go get a massage. That would most likely be the best decision as I sit here and think about it. A little self care is good for the soul. -

Choose a topic. It's early and I got a terrible night's sleep and I pulled something in my back stretching this morning. I'm ready to cry, bitch and moan. -
No, actually the opposite. Having the energy allowed me to do more and start an exercise regimen. Before, I was too tired to get off my hiney. Being able to move more and get out there and exercise, I was able to really get my weight loss going. If you are viewing this in a web browser, look at my signature to see my weight loss numbers. *** EDIT *** You have to remember one thing. Low carb diets are for people with "normal" sized stomachs. The restriction my sleeve provides restricts my carb intake. Low carb = low energy = minimal exertion

Once you are able to get carbs back in your diet, your energy will return.

A Few Quick Questions About Life After VSG
PdxMan replied to Butterflyhigh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I am getting close to 3 years out, but I remember the early days well. 1 & 2) Immediately - I went out to dinner with my wife the evening after my surgery as we were in Vegas for the procedure. A girl's gotta eat. It was the steakhouse up above Binions. Ordered French Onion Soup, no crouton, no cheese. Just enjoyed the broth. The first week back we went out and again I ordered soup and asked them to puree it. I always told the waiter I just ate something and wasn't that hungry. Then, when eating with coworkers or friends, I would tell folks that I was having an early or a late meal with the wife for a special occasion and I didn't want to ruin my appetite. It never was a problem and was never really asked. I think we create more drama in our heads than actually exists. If you don't make it a big deal, then it won't be. 3 & 4) I had 5 entry points. They had the tape with glue on them. No bathing until the strips fall off and no red scabs on the scars. About 3 weeks. Showering was fine, just had to be careful not to get too wet and avoid rubbing them when drying. I used a cheap Walgreen's scar balm daily for a few months after. About a year later, you couldn't tell I even had them unless you knew where they were at. -
I also was self pay. I was able to find Dr. Umbach who happens to be in Vegas. His price was $10,400. Cheap flight down (July 6th) and $44 a night at The Golden Nugget. I took a second on the house and had it paid off in just over a year. You would be amazed at how much money you can save when you are eating the sleeve diet and not having the medical expenses associated with morbid obesity. Plus, had a fun filled weekend having 85% of my stomach removed in Sin City!

I would also say that I consider pizza to be a healthy food. At least, the kind of pizza I order and the portion I consume. While the Pizza Hut slices are tasty, that greasy bottom crust thingy they do certainly is not healthy. I'm talking about the New York style which has that thinner crust. I like to choose leaner meats like ham or chicken and veggies, I consider free. I have no guilt having half a slice of that. As a matter of fact, just the opposite.

Prefetching or Precaching is not allowed...blah, blah, blah...

What device are you using to browse the forums? This is an issue on some web pages if you have Google Accelerator enabled. It is attempting to pre-fetch pages in the background to appear that your browsing experience is faster. It would appear you need to disable that for this site. -
Let's all take it down here. Objectivity has been lost. Everybody's backs are up against the wall and all that is left is a distasteful pissing contest. I've seen pissing contests between women and trust me ladies, it ain't pretty.

I don't think anyone is telling anybody what to or what not to rant about. Like I said in my post above, why do folks take offense when somebody take offense to something you (not you, specifically, the general you) post when you know you are offending? The goal was accomplished. You (again, not you) knew it would be offensive and people did, in fact, take offense. Any statement made from a position of strength does not need to be defended. If someone feels they need to defend a statement they make needs to re-think their statement or how eloquently it was made. If they cannot accept people with have differing opinions, then, well ... they will need to find their serenity in a different place. I, myself, have felt the exact same frustrations posted by many of the rants. When I check myself, I realize it is time for me to take a break from the forums and get some perspective. We are passionate people here and I believe that is what makes are community strong. But passion can be a detriment to us, too, and we need to be cognizant of this and when we need to take a break.

It is widely known here on the forums that I attend AA meetings. As SooCalChic suggested, going to a meeting or two is a good start. Talking to your Dr is another. If you would like to PM me, I can also offer some guidance in your local area. Cross-over addictions are very real. There was a reason why you abused food and where you used to turn to food, you are now turning to alcohol. Getting to the root will be the source of serenity for you. I know for myself, alcohol wasn't my problem, I was. How I dealt with my emotions and how I channeled my thinking just wasn't healthy. I got sober years prior to my surgery and have continued to work on myself. I am a never ending project!

OK, if there was a virtual bucket of Water, I would throw it on all of you. It would seem to me a few folks are frustrated by some members of the forum and feel the need to vocalize these frustrations. Which, in turn, has frustrated other members. You all can run around chasing each other's tails if you wish, but if you sit back and read your posts objectively, surely you can see you are not casting yourself in a very good light. Of course everyone has the right to create posts. They can be about whatever is on your mind and it is greatly appreciated when the posts are created in the correct sub-forum. But just like in America, where we have the freedom to say whatever we want, we also have to be prepared to handle the consequences. Standing up and telling everyone you are going to say something offensive and then crying foul when people take offense is just ... well ... offensive. So, if you are going to complain that people didn't wear their adult undergarments when going into this process, make sure that you are wearing yours while you are on your soapbox. The bottom line is keep it civil, don't get personal and don't take it personal. LL posted the rules of the forum on the other thread and they must be abided. Not everyone has the same background, experience, education, resources ... respect yourself by respecting others.

If I eat the pizza with the crust, it is exactly as you describe it. Takes me about 15 minutes to eat about half a slice. And that is with just canadian bacon on it. Get one of those meat lovers pizzas and I doubt I could get to that half.
-
Actually, from the mobile app, at the top of the screen, there will be a link. In this case, it says, "Jump to the Guys' Room". Every thread will have the forum at the top.

I can only speak to my own experience. I do believe my reflux was due to my hernia, after I researched what it was exactly. It made sense. Having a little pocket of esophagus/stomach sitting above my diaphragm seems to be a ripe place for having acid sit and cause me the grief it did. Having the hernia repaired and not having the stomach above the diaphragm would allow everything to flow down into the stomach, which is happening for me now. I think in my case, that was the issue and cure for my reflux. Also know that there was some tightness in my chest for about three weeks post which I am also told is due to the repair. Again, makes sense. The surgeon, as he explained it to me, yanked (actually used that word) my stomach down and then tightly sewed the diaphragm around the esophagus. Perhaps that my also aid in why I have had the relief I have experienced with reflux post-sleeve. Good luck with your procedure.

Stop the Whining Over A Few Miserable Days!
PdxMan replied to TheOldMeAgain's topic in Rants & Raves
Why?! Because someone so soon out of surgery can't possible know about regrets? I don't believe in them. I may be early out therefore not in the clear yet but even if I get a leak or some other complication I'll deal with it. In a year you will see this thread again and I will ask... You were saying? See you in a year. -
Stop the Whining Over A Few Miserable Days!
PdxMan replied to TheOldMeAgain's topic in Rants & Raves
Hmmm ... wow. Please come back to this thread when you are a year out. -
You are going to have to weigh the risks of each. There are many, many threads on here asking others these questions, but surely you have to know there is nobody on here who can answer that question. Do your research and understand the risks. Then, it is up to you to determine what your risk tolerance is and then proceed from there. There are those who have issues with GERD increasing after sleeve. LilMissDiva and Susan are researching getting a revision right now. Those are the only two here I can think of, but there may be others. You can search for these two members using the site's search functionality and send them a PM. They are both very open to sharing their WLS experience. But I know far, far more people who, like myself, suffered GERD issues and have had their problems resolved with the sleeve. I just responded to a post earlier (search my content) saying I had to have Tums all over (work, bedside, kitchen, car) and was a prilosec fiend. I have taken two Tums once since my surgery. I have heard of people having leaks with the sleeve ... malabsorption with RnY ... strictures with the sleeve ... bowel obstruction with Rny ... There are risks ... but do your research and determine which risks are realistic for you. Good luck and keep researching and asking questions.

I was in the same boat as OTR. Which, BTW ... long time, no see, OTR. Create a thread with checking in with us. I was cramming myself into clothes as I could not bring myself to go to the next size. One of the straws that broke my camel's back in all this. For me, it was just after I had lost 40 pounds that I started going through the sizes. Luckily, I had a box of clothes that I swore to my wife I would wear again one day, so I was able to get them out. The bad news is, after storing those clothes for years, I was only able to wear them for a couple weeks as I blew right through that size. I took basically my entire closet to Goodwill and bought just a couple pairs of jeans and a couple shirts. I knew I would only have those for a few weeks, too. So, once you do start changing sizes, watch out. Things got pretty crazy for me.
