  1. Not a problem getting it off pre-surgery, but now I can't wear it post. I was talking with a co-worker gesturing with my hands when my ring flew off of my finger! I will get it sized probably around my 1 year surgiversary. Just one NSV to look forward to.
  2. Did a Boot Camp last night at my health club, so I am licking my wounds today. I will be doing a 5 mile run tonight after work. Started the day with a Protein shake and have a large glass of Water next to me. I'm going to get 100 oz of water in me today. :drool5:
  3. Woo hoo! Nice to hear. Congrats!
  4. Might I suggest transaction log backups every 15 minutes? Assuming you do nightly backups or at least differentials, you would only need the one day's worth. Are your backups compressed? It makes restoring so much quicker, too. I have a 300 GB DB that I can restore in less than an hour using native SQL backup and restore. Using some tools (I won't name them) I can restore the same DB in about 10 minutes. Cheap, too.
  5. I'm guessing there was a corrupt database issue and we lost a couple day's worth of data. Not doing those transaction log backup, eh? I saw there were several SQL Database errors leading up to the site's demise. That is too bad. I'm a SQL DBA with over 12 years experience if you need any help/advice on dealing with corrupt databases or restoring logs.
  6. I'm hoping we hear from Alex. If they try a restore, then we will lose everything we posted today. There will come a point of diminishing returns on that, though.
  7. LOL! That is pretty much exactly what it said, too!
  8. Hey Brat, glad to hear you have a date. Congrats. Let me know if you want to get together at Starbucks over by QFC or something. Hope you are doing well.

    Affordable Surgery In U.s.

It's a long discussion. I lived in Tecate for a month a few years back and was really uncomfortable with a lot of things I saw there and the surrounding areas. I know Mexicali is a bigger town and a little bit better, but Tijuana? Forget about it.

    Giving Away My Scale! (temporarily;)

I think I love you. You have no idea the battles I have fought on this forum regarding the scale. Yes, put it away. Great decision. Now, my other battle is Protein shakes ... one at a time.

    Affordable Surgery In U.s.

The original poster's husband has reservations about having surgery in Mexico, as did I. I have traveled through Northern Mexico extensively over the years and just was not comfortable with that decision for me. I felt more comfortable paying the extra 5K and doing it in America. I had to take a loan for it and will be paying it off for awhile, but for me, it is worth it.

    Affordable Surgery In U.s.

I also went to Umbach in July and it was $10,400. I would definately recommend him. His current rate is $10,900, as was told to me by someone having surgery on the 21st of Jan. and it's in Vegas (Baby!)
  13. Time for a Come to Jesus post from PdxMan ... sorry if I offend ... don't mean to. ... most of us, I believe, have or had a NUT to consult with. From my discussions with them regarding the whole Protein question and the research I have been doing regarding nutrition and running, there is a limit to the amount your body can effectively absorb and use at one time. There is a general rule out there which suggests consuming more than 30g of protein in a single sitting does you no good and the overage should not be counted, but for more active people and athletes that number is higher. I discuss my activity level with my NUT and integrate her dietary suggestions. Afterall, I paid for it and she went to college for it, so ... I see here and on other threads about people taking the protein shots and getting all their protein in before morning and using ShakeX because it has 48g of protein ... From what I understand, this is not how it works. Drink two 48g protein shots AND I'M DONE FOR THE DAY!! Nope. Your body will absorb what it can and store the rest as fat and for the day you will be WAY short on the protein your body needs. So, don't even ask what my NUT told me to do because my body and activity level is not your body and activity level. Don't ask me what you should do because I don't know your body and activity level. What works for me will not work for you. Bottom line here is if you don't know what to do or you are struggling with protein, you really need to be discussing this with your NUT. They know your body and your activity level FAR better than we do here on the forum. Protein intake is very important. Do yourself a favor and use the resources your team has provided you. If you don't have a NUT, talk to your surgeon, if you can't talk to them, contact your PCP. Surely someone in their office has access to a nutritionist. To echo what I have said before, I know I can come across harsh, but I want us all to succeed in this.
  14. I totally agree, but we need a place to start. A lot of folks have been working with their team for months going through the whole process ending with a surgery. Since they allowed them to be operated on by that team, I would hope they have done their research on them and have a relationship with them. Same thing with their PCP. If you don't feel you can ask your PCP how much Protein you should be getting each day, or trust a resource they give you, then you have WAY bigger problems than protein intake. Let's not make this more than what it is. This mole-hill has become a mountain and I hate to see a thread get hijacked by something totally unrelated. Equating medical situations, blood clots and serious pediatric issues is hardly fair in the context of this thread. I have a dozen ridiculous stories of where the medical community has their heads so far up their @$$ ... well, you know the rest. Of course do your research. I mention that above. My point is a good place to start is with your team. I have read countless threads which start, "Protein shakes taste terrible. I'm a complete failure. What should I do?" or "I have no problem getting my protein in, I use those 48 g shots." IMO, protein intake is a personal thing. If you feel the internet is the place to start, and you can't trust the team you just let take 85% of your stomach out, then God bless you and good luck. Find another NUT or PCP. But I can pretty much guarantee you Martha from Holyoke, VA has no idea what your protein plan should be.
  15. None of mine had either, but I think they can assess how much Protein I should be taking in each meal better than someone on an internet forum. I informed my NUT that I am running 4 days a week and doing one other activity, spinning or interval aerobics. She said at my current weight and activity I should try to get xx grams in the morning after I wake, xx after a workout and xx sprinkled throughout the day with meals and Snacks. It's nothing outlandish and unheard of. This is not like we are trying to figure out if we should be taking codeine or percoset, here. Each of which affects our bodies differently. Protein is pretty generic stuff which, as is evidenced by the thread, grows into something so complicated people can't get their heads around it. It really is simple. All I'm trying to say is talk to people who know about this stuff. If you feel that is an internet forum, then God bless you.
  16. While I agree you must be your own advocate, whose advice do you think is best on this topic? The NUT/PCP/Surgeon which knows your case or an internet forum? Lord knows I have fought with nurses and Dr.s over the years over outlandish advice, but I think that is a better place to start than an internet forum.

I'm sorry to hear that happened. I will be thinking of you. Just do what they tell you to do and all will be well.

    1 Year Ago Today...

Wow! Congratulations. 6 months out myself and I too, struggle with those foods. But like you said, it is probably for the best. Has your weight completely stabilized? If so, how far up and down does your weight sway? How are you finding maintenance?
  19. A small *hick* when I am full and a drop in energy when I am hungry. "Whew, my @$$ is draggin! I gotta eat something." Then all better. *hick*

Ok What Do I Have To Do To Get Back On Track?

Well, I don't know if I would do the strict liquid thing. It isn't what you need to be doing long term and killing yourself for a couple days so you can see the scale drop a pound or two doesn't really serve you well in the long run. You can't maintain that. So, do what you can maintain which is what was prescribed when you started this whole thing. Get back to basics as Dorrie said. Start with protein first Don't drink with your meals, but do get your liquids in Exercise Get the %$#@ out of your house. Not in a cupboard up high. Those things can climb down on their own in my house. Don't talk about it, do it. Not first thing tomorrow, right now. It only works if you work it! Good luck!
  21. That's great Soup! That's what I'm talking about. You found a solution that works for you. Good! I get most of my protein from soups! But I am curious, if you could share, how you came to this. Did you try a variety of protein shakes/powders and none of them were palatable? How many did you try? Did your NUT suggest trying to get all your protein from food ASAP? I think the path to finding a solution is what troubles most people.
  22. And just an add on, here, that I forgot in my original post ... There is also the popular question of, "Which Protein drink/powder should I use?" Again, this is going to be different for everyone and what works pre-op may not work post-op. My cousin LOVES Isopure, but I adopt the name isopuke. Muscle Milk is too thick and sweet for me, but I know lots of people love it. This really is a path you are going to have to find on your own. There is a solution for you out there. You and your nutritionist are going to have to experiment, find samples and do taste tests. NOBODY on the forum is going to be able to tell you what is going to work for you. It may not be protein powder/shakes. It could be broths or something else. Just find what works for you.
  23. Yes, Kathy, use protein shakes and bars to supplement protein shortages from food.
  24. If you use the Protein powder, I think you have to use a electric hand mixer. The stuff I had said you can just use a spoon, but no way. I had a muscle milk (not the lite) the other day because I forgot my Premier at home and man, that stuff is thick and sweet. It was a job to finish it.
  25. I had the same problem with Protein shakes being too sweet. I had a powder I loved pre-op and then I couldn't stomach them a week post-op. I tried many different brands, but they were all too sweet. I found Premium chocolate at costco which has been perfect for me. I see you are between two Costcos in Fredricksburg and Potomac Mills. Check them out. $24 for 18 of them and they have 30g of protein per. The vanilla ones are good, too and I guess they have a strawberry, but we don't have them at my store. Highly recommend. As Frumpy said, early on, focus on the liquids, for sure. I have heard of many folks in the ER with an IV in their arm due to dehydration. If you don't meet quota, don't beat yourself up, just do better tomorrow.
