  1. Good luck! A day that changed my life forever.
  2. haha. That is good. I usually can't bring myself to something that harsh. I simply cut off people who are not nice. If they are family, I minimize contact as much as possible. Lynda I don't care to have people like this in my life, so, I tell them exactly how I feel. What's the worst thing that can happen? They stop talking to me? I feel I am actually doing them a favor. If they didn't realize they were being mean, they sure do now.

Crossfit and WLS - considering WLS

Well, I was a person who couldn't run two blocks and less than a year post-op, I was winning my division in 5 & 10Ks. Once I was able to get the excess weight off, I was really able to move. Did I experience muscle loss? Sure. Way more than I anticipated. So, all that meant to me was I had to be more diligent with my weight training and recovery efforts. If you read this sub-forum, you will see from other's experience that living the sleeved life only increases athletic performance.
  4. Here is my experience on my Alaska cruise I tool last September: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/265450-cruises-and-eating/ I had a lot of anxiety going as I remembered the cruise I took 12 years ago which was a food fest. I was pleased with how well I did. The sleeve is a great tool.
  5. My retort to her: "You should draw a line down the middle of your face so you look like the ass you are."

No, don't worry plumb. No confusion. We had some problems a couple years ago with folks making inappropriate comments in each other's forums, so it was decided to try to police them a bit before things get elevated to an uncomfortable level. Just like this post: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/304474-average-weight-loss-during-first-2-weeks-guys-only-please/ Men and women should feel they have a safe place to post gender specific questions. As a host here at BariatricPal, it is my job to remind folks to be aware of what forum they are in and to respect the guidelines. No drama. Hope you are doing well today.
  7. That is a good quote. Mine is rooted in the story of the three frogs sitting on a log: Three frogs are sitting on a log, and one decides to jump into the pond, how many frogs left on the log? Three The frog made the decision to jump in the pond, but hasn't actually done it. We can make decisions to do all sort of things, but until we actually do it ... Which leads to my favorite quote: Things only change when we make a change
  8. As you know, we are all different. Therefore, we are going to lose differently. You could take two men, same height, same BMI and give them the same meals and over the next month, they would have two different rates of loss. Metabolism, age, how the body stores fat, weight loss history ... many, many different factors are going to result in different rates of loss. One person may be completely sedentary and lose a lot, but they have also been losing a lot of muscle mass ... is that what you want? What are you looking to lose, weight or fat? So, my point is, no good can come from comparing yourself to others. Many are going to lose faster than you and many are going to lose slower. What does that mean? Nothing. The bottom line is that you are the only one responsible for your program. Your compliance will determine whether or not you lose at a "good" rate. I would spend my energies on focusing on how well I am compliant with the guidelines. Hydration is great and necessary, sure, but what about: 1.) Drinking before during and after eating 2.) Eating lean Proteins first, then veggies, then starches 3.) Chew well and take time in between bites evaluating how you feel stopping AS SOON as you begin to feel restriction 4.) Exercise, and when exercising aerobically, you are at your target heart rate. Don't forget weight training. Surely you know if you are compliant with the above, you are going to lose fat. Know that you will also lose muscle, but as long as you are compliant with the above, you will get it back (#4). This is not a race. There is the thought that losing slower aids in the loose skin department. Accept what your body can do and don't be afraid to push yourself a bit. You may be amazed at what you can do. (But be safe, of course)
  9. I weighed once a month. I always saw losses and wasn't disappointed. So many folks get discouraged when the inevitable stalls occur. I never saw them which helped to keep me motivated.
  10. Snorkeling may be tight. No bathes or swimming until scars are completely healed over. That was about 5 weeks for me, I believe.

Ah yes, I forgot about this. This us true. Many folk go through a period of lactose intolerance. This may be true for you. Try going off all diary for a few days. Got almond or soy milk, my wife and kids love the stuff.
  12. There is a whole sub-forum dedicated to cosmetic/reconstructive surgery. http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/393-cosmetic-reconstructive-surgery/ You can search that sub-forum related to augmentations or just page through the threads. It is an often discussed topic.

I was implying that he shouldn't be shy in general. It had nothing to do with him posting in the ladies forum It would appear you have missed the point ... and the context.
  14. You will always be able to find someone who cheated and was fine. That is not the point. Those who cheated and didn't heal properly have a hard time coming to the forums and posting about it. If she wants to go against her Drs orders, there is nothing you are going to be able to do about it. She is a grown up. She knows the risks. BTW, I know lots of people who drink excessively and get in the car, drive home and are fine. They had no problems. Since I know a few people who did it, then it should be fine for everyone to do it, too. It's just too bad those who did have problems can't tell us their story.

    I am scared

If you are not ready to make a fundamental change with your relationship with food and begin to get to the heart of why you abuse food, then I would suggest you wait until you are ready to do so. WLS is not an easy path on so many levels. Would you encourage someone to have a baby who wasn't ready? Sure, young parents can stumble through, but do you really think that is best?

    Low Fat or Low Carbs?

I don't do either ... the restriction my sleeve gives me restricts my intake of these, so I don't really worry about it. Of course, I'm not eating crappy foods, so, I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. I cook with real butter and use real sugar in my cooking. But I am the person who, if feeling depraved, go overboard in the wrong direction, so that is why the sleeve was such a good decision for me. It gives me the balance I couldn't do for myself.

    Vets-Any former bandsters?

LMD, I knew you were having GERD issues, but can you detail what you mean when you say you have had many issues and complications post? Do you feel they are related to revision? Compliance? VSG? Thanks

You shouldn't be shy... You're gorgeous! Hello Splatt, as mentioned in this thread, being shy is not a good reason for not posting in the lady's room, but rather, it is against our guidelines. Note the stickies at the top of the Lady's and Men's forums: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/250198-attention-men-the-powder-room-is-for-ladies-only/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/250199-attention-ladies-the-man-room-is-for-men-only/

Just want to echo grimlin's thoughts. I'm guessing too much sugar which is causing an insulin reaction and a bit O'Diarrhea. Perhaps try the greek yogurt and switch out your Protein shake. I am a big fan of Premier shakes. Get them at costco or Sam's Club.
  20. Yes, congrats on recognizing this and starting to move on. Just know, while you may be done with her, she is not done with you. She will be calling, so remain strong. As far as getting back on track, I would suggest you ensure you have no crap in your kitchen. No alcohol, no sweets and no sweet drinks. Continue with this resolution to get back on track and dump them all. I remember I would tell myself, "Once this tub of ice cream is gone, I just won't buy another." No ... I just needed to dump the ice cream whether it was full or not. Stock your shelves with proper foods. meats, Jerky, yogurts ... you know the drill. At least for awhile, eat exclusively at home. Don't be tempted by fast food or restaurants. This is just to get yourself back on track and disassociate yourself with the poor habits you developed with this woman. Get back to the basics of eating Protein first, then veggies and/or starches. Don't drink right before, during or right after eating. Chew very well setting your utensil down in between bites. Evaluate how you feel after that bite and try to stop eating AS SOON as you BEGIN to feel restriction. There should be some time between the swallow and next bite. Try not to eat to the point of where you are stuffed. That is what we used to do. Bottom line is things only change when we make a change. If we go back to doing things the way we used to, then we will get the same results. Praying 2 + 2 won't equal 4 leads only to resentments.

    Sweet! Nice job.

    I'm in the medical field.

As has been mentioned, the R & R sub-forum was setup so BariatricPal members could vent on anything and everything. Sometimes though, people forget the rules still remain in place and we must continue to be respectful of each other. That is often lost. If you have any experience with support groups, then you know the root cause can often be another issue than what brought the group together. Healing the whole person is a better approach than trying to fix just one thing. If you would like to rant about WLS related issue, go for. But know we are not limited to just that.

We have Round Table in Oregon, too.

    Anyone having trouble with friends?

You cut off contact with him. Simple as that. Next time he floats into your life, say, "I'm sorry, but you are toxic in my life. No good has ever come from our relationship, so let's not kid ourselves and move on." Wish him well and be consistent with how you and your husband deal with him.
  25. If you want to know if what you are gaining is fat, remember that if you consume 3,500 calories more than you burn, then you can gain a pound, burn 3,500 more than you consume, you lose a pound. Generalizing an immobile person's resting metabolic rate at 2,000 calories, what you have to ask yourself is did you consume more calories than you burned? In 2 days, did you consume 6 x 3,500 = 21,000 + 4,000 (BMR) = 25,000 calories in two days? 4 months post op, I highly doubt it. I am close to 3 years post op and I cannot consume that much. So, this tells us your gain is attributed to something else. My vote is swelling and Water retention.
