OUTPATIENT vsg anyone?
jennifer6791 replied to jennifer6791's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
no, not tmi- thanks, Cathi- that will help alot- I WILL TAKE THAT NAUSEA PRESCRIPTION! LOL... really; thanks alot! Hi there, I had my surgery at the same place, with Dr. Billings!! I am 3 weeks post-op today. The staff there are wonderful. I was worried about going home the same day, and truthfully, I wish I had been able to stay overnight as I got very sick the day I went home. However...did they give you a prescription for nausea, one pill to take at 3:00 a.m. the morning before surgery? If so, TAKE IT. I was told by a nurse during my pre-op appt. that it was optional, and since my insurance charged a higher co-pay for just the one pill, I didn't get it. Dr. Billings was not happy that I had been told that, because he said it is not optional, that I would really need it for nausea. They gave me extra nausea meds. in my IV the morning of the procedure, but it didn't help. I vomited all afternoon after I got home, and all night long. The next morning, I was very dehydrated and needed several bags of fluids. They kept me most of the day to make sure I was okay, giving me nausea & pain meds. thru the IV. They said everyone is different, but if I'd had that nausea pill, I probably wouldn't have been so sick. The liquid percocet they give you manages the pain well, as well as the valium. Take them both religiously the first few days to stay comfortable. Other people I have talked to weren't near so sick, so I don't want to freak you out or worry you. I hesitated sharing my experience since it was kind of rough the first few days. But also want to assure you that they will take good care of you, and they are only a phone call away. I had a one week post-op appt. and I was doing fine. They gave me pictures of the surgery and the piece of stomach they took out! When are you scheduled? I wish you the best!! You'll do great, I'm sure! Cathi so, i keep reading about how people spend 2 or 3 days in the hospital- if you had laprascopic vsg outpatient surgery, please chime in! i have to go in the next morning for fluids, and there is a hospital very close by if there are complications, which i'm not worried about- guess i'm more worried about pain management... no nurse at my beck and call...would appreciate your experience! -
i'm getting an inheiritance next month, and my insurance won't cover it all all. i'm paying 17.5k, i think, but also needed 2 ekgs and a stress test- hope my insurance covers those! my price includes 2 years of nutrition and excercise mentoring. best of luck to you! oh, btw, i live near seattle, wa.

thanks so much- i sure appreciate it! i'll most likely take you up on it... i've heard that the first month is rough; i'm a bit worried about the pain the first few days- i hope i'm well drugged! wondering what they'll give me for pain. i haven't driven a mini, but think i may have to test drive one! definitely a convertible! i know 2 people that have them and they're so cute, and the interiors are beautiful! are they expensive? -

my nut is jennifer campbell... she is recommending OA for me- went to a meeting tonight, and although i'm in recovery (12 step) i didn't care for it, but will try 5 more meetings as they suggest. i'm definitely going to the support group at the hospital after surgery! i was gonna say marysville is too far, but so is edmonds! glad to hear they have a good rep! i know someone that had surgery there (lap band 1st, then sleeve) and she recommended them highly. i gathered from your name what was up- minis are so cool- i thought about getting a convertible mini, but i'm stuck on mustangs- i'm currently on #4, but looking for a rag top in the next few months- i had 2 convertibles (different times)my first 10 years here in WA and i miss it so much!! your success is so inspiring- i can't wait to get started but i'm nervous about "changing my brain" after surgery when it comes to food... a woman at OA tonite had a bypass wls and tried to talk me out of surgery. while i appreciated her concern, it did kind of piss me off... -
how do YOU take your meds, vitamins & supplements?
jennifer6791 posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
how do YOU take your meds/vitamins, etc? i plan on crushing them and adding to yogurt or cottage cheese or something, but is it necessary to totally crush them? by the time i crush ALL of my meds i'll have a ridiculous amount of powder..probably tastes pretty disgusting, too, right?... i checked with my pharmacist and she says all meds are okay to be crushed or split. -

SO... i'll be starting the pre op diet in a couple of weeks. am new to low carb, so i think i need help... i think they said i need to keep carbs down to 40 grams a day which seems crazy. fruits and veggies are not even doable. so meat, cheese, eggs... what's your favorite meal on a "no" carb diet? -
