I had similar symptoms after my surgery and after suffering for a few weeks and having some tests, I was given IV fluids and all my problems went away. It seems that dehydration can make the band feel much tighter, and so it is a catch-22. Don't wait, get the IV fluids asap.

I was banded on 1/19/07. Nothing has gone normally and my surgeon has never had a case like mine, so he says. After surgery I was way too restricted, and had trouble taking in fluids. I had an esophogram and was told by my surgeon that the band looked too tight and the lower stomach was distended and not emptying properly. Put onto reglan, then erythromycin. And while that has resolved, I am way too restricted in how much and what I can eat even now, almost six weeks out. I had an endoscopy and was told I had esophogitis. Why? I never had problems pre-op. And am scheduled for a manometry as I was also told that my peristalisis is not working normally. The upper GI showed the band was correctly positioned but I have just not been able to eat anything but very soft or very crunchy foods. And it feels like somethings stick in my throat. I am concerned that I am having damage done to my esophogus, but my surgeon does not seem to be in a hurry to do something. Any thoughts?

You should call your Doctor immediately. I had the same thing, your stomach is not emptying properly. You can be given a medicine to help this move. -
Thanks, Kebsa. Just nice to know someone heard me!

:cry So today I finally get my Dr. on the phone, and he tells me that my band is too tight because of swelling and I have a distended lower stomache! He put me on Reglan, and told me that if the band doesn't loosen he will have to go in thru my esophogus and try to stretch it! I have never had a problem with my stomache emptying and no I am not diabetic. I am miserable and have had nothing but problems. I have not thrown up, nor have I even slimed, but I have been "stuck" twice on pureed foods, and now have to have a liquid diet only for a while. Anyone hear of this situation? Any words of wisdom? I guess if my stomache starts emptying properly and the band loosens I will be fine, but....

Fill or no fill? Opinions needed!! (LONG)

If it were me I would try exercise before getting a fill. The fact that you can't even eat anything in the morning is probably contributing to your hunger later in the day. -
I was banded on January 19, 2007 and I have had those pains too! I have also had trouble getting down adequate fluid and food (pureed). Today was my best day at 25oz. This is so hard. I am thirsty! I did contact my Doctor's who promply sent me for a Barium Esophogram even though their feeling was that I was on the "outer edge of normal" I was so upset and fearful of doing the esopghogram because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to drink enough barium, but I followed my Dr's orders and drank one small sip at a time and held it in my mouth a few seconds before swalling. It went well, and my Dr. is reveiwing the films himself Monday. (The Doctor who did the test thought that all was okay) Once I got home from the test, I let out a series of burps, and the pain lifted! Now I wait for Monday morning. No one told me that I was going to have this much restriction for so long after surgery. Will that diminish?
