Nichelle got a reaction from LilMissDiva Irene for a blog entry, 11 Month Measurements
11 Month Measurements
Welcome back to the losers game. I forgot how important it was to be a part of my healthy lifestyle not just float next to it. Last month I lost nothing. This shocked and scared me right out of my rut of how important it is to put forth the effort to see results. Over the holidays I got a little lazy in my exercise. Honestly, I quit exercising if we are going to be truthful here. Plus I was over indulging way to often and choosing to eat whatever as long as it was a small portion. Well as we can all see and I myself which is the most important just sliding by won’t lose the weight forever. This past month I decided to show myself that with a little more control and simple calorie counting along with 3x a week workout on the treadmill. I can have the results I want. Even results that match the first few months of weight loss. The exercise goes to prove it has helped not only on the scale, but this month I have lost more inches than I have in a few months. To sticking with it not just now, but forever. This is my life and my body so I have to put in the work. No one else can do it for me. To an amazing month ahead and my one year surgiversary. *My own little pep talk.

This is something I read before I decided to have surgery. It was what helped me decide that this was the right option for me and I wasn’t doing anything less than what I deserve. It still rings true for me today.
“This is a huge rant topic for me, so I will spare you all the long ALL CAPPED emphatic response LOL. This is my single question back to anyone who says I took the easy way out: Why should I NOT take the 'easy' way out? Seriously -- this is not a rhetorical question: Why not? Fat is not a moral failure; I didn't do anything Bad or Wrong, and I don't 'deserve to be punished' by doing it the "hard way" over and over and over again. The end.”
That being said having the vertical sleeve gastrectomy was and is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I have never felt so good and been so happy. The weight loss has slowed, but it is still coming off every month. I had a small stall again this month where I didn’t lose for two almost 3 consecutive weeks; however I knew that I was still losing because in those weeks I had lost a complete jean size even when the scale didn’t move.

Nichelle reacted to Sarah S for a blog entry, First day of blogging, Day 9 post-op
I'm not sure if anyone will read this, but I don't really care- I need a place to write down and journal my everyday experiences as a new, and ultimately permanent, VSG patient.
Day 9 is better. I have felt like myself since about day 5. I've been going to work since Monday, 4 days after surgery. I think this was a smart idea because it keeps me busy and I don't have time to sit around and think about my decision. I have found myself questioning the significance of having this surgery. It is PERMANENT and that is terrifying to me. I can't go back to my old lifestyle. I think and dream about all of my favorite foods that I ultimately cannot fully enjoy anymore. I told my friend the other day that I enjoy eating food and that I enjoy eating A LOT of food. It makes me happy. Unfortunately, I don't have this safety net anymore. I decided somewhere in my mind that being skinny and healthy was more important than enjoying large amounts of food. I am currently having this debate in my head, even though my decision is permanent and I can never go back to eating large quantities ever again. I'm excited about the prospect of eating real food again in a few weeks. I already know the first thing I'm going to have and drool just thinking about it.
I feel silly, walking around with only a piece of my stomach left. Like I made some kind of material, superficial decision and abused my body for ridiculous reasons. Could I have lost all the weight on my own? Probably. Would the process have been long, defeating, excruciating, and depressing? Probably. Would I have gained the weight back? Yes, probably, especially since I like food.
And now I'm sad because I want to eat something, but can't.
At least I can express myself on here. So far I'm not happy with my decision. I pray for my sanity that these feelings change.
