Lose TOO MUCH weight... is this possible?!
highland replied to becky101010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was up 5 lbs the morning after surgery! it took 3 dayls to get back to the morning op weight! I'm now down 6 lbs post op. I was banded last Monday. My doc says 3 lbs is fluctuation. 4 lbs is weight. Except right after surgery. -
I was banded 6/27. I had very little shoulder pain when I was taking short walks (15 min) throughout the day rather than the long once a day walks or bike I'm now doing. Soooo today I am going to do several short walks to try and keep it at bay. Is this something we are always going to have when we are gassy?

July 2011 Bandsters!
highland replied to lifeisjustbeginning2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The weakness you are experiencing sounds like dehydration. Are you getting your 64 ozs of water in everyday? That was my main goal from my surgeon for this first week. Hope you start feeling stronger soon. -

I was just looking on my food list and there are NO starches listed for any phase!!!!!! I have been so looking forward to cream of wheat and oatmeal and they are NOT on the list!!!! I had remembered that the nutritionist told me no potatoes; whipped or not, sweet or white; or any breads. Crud! I was really looking forward to cream of wheat. His phases are 1. Clear Liquids one week 2. Full Liquids - 2 weeks 3. Soft proteins added one week 4. All soft Foods added one week 5. Solid Food Trial Period Begins

Anyone ever damage port from ab exercises?
highland replied to beergut's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Beeegut, PLEASE call your surgeon! If you're doing the ab workout I think you are-you easily could have torn the port from your abdominal wall! I'm just saying! -

I have two Golden Retrievers, 3 And 31/2 years old. They are so much fun and love their walks, but my main form of exercise is swimming laps in my pool. Harley, the 31/2 year old, has taken to swimming right along side of me! It's hilarious! We race each other - doesn't get much better than that. lol

Finding it difficult getting fluids down
highland replied to b_rad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Brad, I am also self pay so I DO understand! I am under the understanding that insurance would pay for this type of issue, especially if you are admitted on an emergency basis. Just a thought. Take care. <3 Lisa -

Brad, I've been reading your posts and thinking about you today. I am soooo sorry for your post op experience. It is NOT suppose to go this way. I promise. I am so worried about your general health. 18 pounds in 4 days is serious electrolyte imbalance. Is your bariatric team taking this seriously and really watching you? I know you don't want to hear the H word ( hospital) but it may be the best place to get you back on track without any long term effects. Best to you and your health. <3 -
it sounds like you may have been too young to have this surgery. I hope you have your own income so you can take charge of your own food. That would really help. Also, maybe find an exercise partner. There are lots of activities you can do to stay active that don't cost anything. Maybe take on the attitude "I'll show YOU"! if mom continues to not be on board!

Walk, walk, and walk some more. All the chest, stomach, and shoulder pAin will go away NATURALLY!!!!! It is GAS!! Hard to believe GAS can cause so much pain - but it can! Good Luck! -
Walk, walk, and walk some more. I know it's hard but this will help EVERYTHING!!! It will move the gas around and allows your lungs to open up so you can cough. You'll feel so much better. I was banded on Monday. Thank goodness my sister, whose an RN, came to keep me on the right track!

Hi Dani! I had surgery on Monday and I 'm feeling great - been to the mall twice this week and lots of walking the neighborhood. I've eaten very little but have faithfully been getting my 64 oz of water down each day. This is what my surgeon wanted me to focus on since the other clear liquids are more for your appetite rather than nutrition these first few days. My appetite will probably return on day 8 or 9. It has after my other two experiences with anesthesia. I'll be happy to keep in contact with you to compare notes! Happy healing! Lisa
