I am so happy for you Carol and THRILLED you found a new dr! It's amazing to me that these drs want to blame the patient instead of seeimg what THEY need to do to help you. That's their JOB!! My dr tells me it's his job to keep me losing! I love to go to my monthly appointments because his team is sooooo encouraging! That's hoe you should feel too! Congratulations for bring ON the bandwagon finally!!! You will do great!

At 4cc's I felt no restriction. I portioned out what was on my diet plan, for instance 3-4 oz piece of fish, 1/2 c veggies and maybe a tiny bit of fruit, I quit eating regardless of being satisfied. In my situation this worked for the first 4 months util I hit the green zone. I didn't try to see how much I could et. but how LITTLE I could eat. Good luck and just remember the first few months are more will power than the band. Once you hit your green zone, you'll be mazed how much easier it gets! Good Luck!

Also - I am at good restriction and if I'm thirsty I can pretty well gulp all the water I need! I know many cannot, but I only have to sip right after my fills.

I finally got restriction at 6.5cc's and hit the green zone at 7cc's in a 10 cc band. I can still eat everything just a bit slower and I get full pretty fast. By full I mean I burp and feel like my pouch won't hold one more bite. It's nothing like the preband full where your tummy feels full. Be patient because it WILL happen. Also - I generally only eat chicken and fish because that's what I like. I did have pork tenderloin on New Year's and beef tenderloin on Christmas with no problem. I eat lots of salad, including raw carrots and celery much to my surgeons dismay! lol. You don't want to be so tight that you turn to high calorie carb slider foods! That's a recipe for disaster as many posters have mentioned! Good Luck!

Anybody Else's Dietician Make Them Feel Like Crap?
highland replied to mrsmyers2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Completely unacceptable! I would consider changing surgeons if this is any indication of their level of support for their lap band patients! You must tell the surgeon and refuse to see her again. You do not deserve to be treated this way by anyone, much less part of the team who is supposed to help you through this journey! I love, love, love to go to my surgeons office EVERYONE is so supportive.....it's unbelieveable! You deserve the same AND it will only help you to be successful. -
I have always been overly endowed and went thru the process of a breast reduction about 5 years ago, but my insurance would not cover it much to the dismay of my surgeon. I've lost 62 pounds and just went to buy new bras, not because the others didn't fit, but because I needed NEW ones. Well I wear the exact same cup size and band size!!!! Go figure. I'm certain I'll be having a breast reduction along with a TT after all is said and done!! Maybe your situation will be different.

Have Only Had 1 Fill And All Of The Sudden I Can't Even Drink Water
highland replied to brittonswifey's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Losing a pound a day is not normal! You need to call your drs office because something is obviously wrong! Don't wAit and end up in the emergency room. You want your dr to see you, not someone who knows nothing about the lap band. PLEASE call your dr. -
Does Anyone Else Eat Sugar Free Protein Bars?
highland replied to Angela the Breeder's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
What are the fat grams? Most of the bars I love that are low sugar have a lot of fat in them. -

Slow Weight Loss After Lap Band Surgery......
highland replied to jsea's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I completely agree with you! -
I bought a child's divided plate at target. It was in their dish section and it has three sections. I use the large rectangular section for my protein and the two small squares for my veggies. It works great and also has a rubber cover to seal it with so you can take lunch to work in it!

Ramblings Of An Impatient Post Op Bander
highland replied to Wendy Peters's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Remember your first fill will probably do very little to curb your hunger. It took me 3 fills to feel a little restriction and on the 4th fill, 4 months post-op, I hit the green zone. My theory is that drs fill you slowly so you learn to eat properly BEFORE you have major restriction. You really need to follow the rules once this happens or you will not get the sufficient amounts of Protein in. Good luck and be patient. P.S. My band was empty after surgery, if your dr put some in yours you might get restriction sooner. -
Imaginary Lap Band :-)
highland replied to TexasDianne's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
FYI - I use the EAS 100% Whey Protein Powder Which has 23g Protein, 3g Carb, and 130 calories. Mixed with 1 cup of skim milk you get a whopping 32g Protein, 15g carb, and 220 calories. It keeps me full and satisfied for a long time - even pre-band it worked! In my opinion, it's all about the protein! Definately keeps you full and you won't lose your hair like so many do from insufficient protein intake. Best wishes to all starting out on their journey, and to those plugging away one day at a time! -
Imaginary Lap Band :-)
highland replied to TexasDianne's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Excellent idea! I started a low calorie, low carb, high Protein diet about 6 weeks before surgery and did liquids for 3 weeks as a "test run". It was a great choice for me and helped me tremendously after surgery. My "bandster Hell" was so manageable because of this. In other words, yes this will help you after surgery and your body won't go into shock like so many others report. You have a great attitude and will do GREAT with your band. P.S. We are not all as lucky as hummingbird who has never had to count calories or measure food with her lapband. Lucky girl!! -

Lap Band Fill And No Restriction-please Help!
highland replied to kentucky's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Have you lost any weight since the gallbladder surgery? If so, the band might be looser with the same amount of fluid in it. I tend to be tighter as soon as I've had my fill up u til three weeks, then it seems to loosen up. But that's just me. Others report rhat it takes time for theirs to tighten up. Everyone is different. -
I'm six months out and have never been stuck. I probabaly haven't because I'm still following my drs plan. I eat fish, chicken, veggies and dairy. I don't eat bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, beef or pork. This is most likely the reason. I do get uncomfortable sometimes, like after eating salad, but that's about it. I have 7cc in a 10cc band.

Eating More Than I Thought After Lap Band Surgery
highland replied to itray's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I could gulp down 24 oz of water in one swallow up until my fourth fill! Now I have to take small sips throughout the day to get my 64 oz in. Big change for me as I love water and like to swig it down -

Slow Weight Loss After Lap Band Surgery......
highland replied to jsea's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Don't get discouraged! Many people include their pre op weight loss without posting that info. Also some people lose a tremendous amount in that first two weeks because docs keep them on liquids. I only lost four pounds the first month so I was devastated! I did and am doing everything right but my weight loss is significantly slower than many who post on here. We are all soooooo different. If you are like me and have dieted your entire life. like 45 years, your metabolism sucks and the weight comes off more slowly. On the bright side, at about my four month mark the weight started coming off more quickly. I guess my body finally decided to give in! lol Best of luck and hang in there! I know it's hard , but don't compare yourself to others. We are all different! -
Yep! That's the reason.

Change In Level Of Lap Band Restriction
highland replied to JimR915's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, especially if you've lost a good amount of weight since the fill.
