Post Surgery Recovery

I stayed at moms my first night after surgery, but went home mid-day Friday and then back to work on a Monday. I was weak on MOnday, but made the day well. I think you will be fine. -
I wish I had kept my lapband a secret.....
lea3277 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you ever wish you had kept your lapband surgery a secret? I know people are curious and I love the support, but I am getting exhausted from all of the questions that I keep getting asked at work. People have gone to the extent to ask me how many ounces of Fluid I have taken in per day and I don't understand why they care. Today my boss, who is really competitve when it comes to fitness/weight loss, wanted to know how much I needed to lose and what my goal was long-term. She basically wanted to know what my weight is now and that's my business and all my business only. I had my surgery nearly a week ago, but didn't know questions would start this quick. I am very open and don't mind curious minds at all, but there is a difference in people who just want to know for other purposes. I guess I just need to kindly learn how to say I'm doing good and leave it at that. I am not one to flaunt weight loss or act like I'm "all that" and I never have been.......I guess people just get worried that after surgery I'm going to get smaller than them. I think it's ridiculous. It's okay though because I'm doing this for me and my health! I hate situations like this because I'm really kind to everyone and don't want to appear "secretive," but issues with weight are sometimes touchy. -
Rozie --- How soon after your surgery did you start walking for excercise? I had mine the 16th and would love to start. I go to the doctor Friday and I am anxious to hear what she has to say.

Would a sugar free snow cone be considered a liquid. I am about 5 days post op and need something new to try!

Sister Sue....we sound like we have similar situations. I live in a town with less than 1,000 people and if you tell the preacher then the whole congregation knnows so to speak! In a way, people knowing is my motivation to show them that it CAN work! Thanks for the feedback everyone.....forums are pretty helpful! -

It's still a diet and it still requires will power and lots of it! I never thought I would make it through two week post op diet and I did. It's amazing what happens when you set your mind to something! -
I too am from Texas! Had my surgery on June 16th and I haven't regretted it yet. I hate the Texas heat and hope that Summer passes soon! I also am a "self pay" patient and it sucks, but I keep thinking that will be an incentive for me to make it work. Email anytime if you have questions (leanel_01@yahoo.com). I will take all of the support I can get!

You're smart for keeping it quiet! I started out telling family and close friends, but then one lady at work overheard me on the phone and it spread like wild fire. It was my fault for not telling the doctors office I needed to call them at a later time. Like you said, it's actually just another diet plan. I don't care because at the end I know I will be healthier and much happier! I am positivie this is going to work for me! -
I had surgery Thursday and went back Monday, but I agree with LBT Addict in that it all depends on the kind of work that you do. I have a desk job with minimal lifting, so I didn't have any trouble. Recovery for me has been a breeze.

i am 4 days post op and don't want to drink anything. I'm just not hungry and I probably haven't been getting 400 calories per day, if that. I need to throw some apple juice in the mix. I didn't think about that being more calories. I hope I haven't messed up by not drinking much. I'm trying to choke down this protein shake now, but I just feel so bloated when I drink stuff. I think I still have the air in me that they pump you up with during surgery.....miserable! Love reading these forums....so helpful.

I am feeling that soreness too. I had surgery on the 16th and was scared I had lifted something I shouldn't have! Also, I don't want to eat anything and I'm scared I'm going to end up dehydrated. I am trying to choke down a protein drink.

Too soon for protein shakes?
lea3277 replied to lea3277's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok - My doc did give me a diet and it says liquids the first week. Milk is listed, so I assumed Protein shakes would be fine. I might try one tonight. Thanks for your feedback. -
Looking for June 2011 Bandits!

I had my surgery the 16th. You will do fine and I wish all of you the best of luck! -
I haven't felt restricted at all up to this point. Is that normal? I can sit and drink a 16oz bottle of water fairly quickly with no problems. I am very sore and still leary of drinking protein shakes at this point because they are thicker.

i have been wondering how I would know when I was full. I just got banded on Thursday and obviously can't tell I even have the band at this point. I'm glad you made this post.

Newly Banded- Just had my surgery yesterday!
lea3277 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my lapband surgery yesterday and I am doing sooo much better than I expected I would. Of course, I'm super sore but I haven't been sick or anything. I am drinking quite a bit of water and apple juice though and I am wondering if that's a problem. What did you guys intake the first couple days after surgery? -

Thanks guys......I was a little hungry tonight so I heated up some Campbell's Soup at Hand. Just noticed my popsicles aren't sugar free and I have eaten a couple of those today.....hope the fact that they aren't sugar free won't hurt me too bad! I obviously picked up the wrong box! I'm so excited about this! -
I got banded yesterday at 8 AM and I'm doing really good, too. I am really sore in my stomach area, but it's not as bad as I had expected. I was wondering about the protein drinks and how soon I could work those back into my diet and I forgot to ask my doctor. Today I have been drinking juice, water, and eating popsicles. I just heated up a Cambell's Soup at Hand Chicken and Stars and it hasn't bothered me. I am so excited about our journey. Good luck to you! I had replied to this earlier, but guess it didn't go through......if it shows two replies I'm sorry.......

I have surgery Thursday and my doctor told me it was fine to drink the EAS Myoplex Chocolate, Strawberry, or Vanilla shakes up until surgery.

A question for anyone who cheated on their pre- op diet
lea3277 replied to Atsirc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some people only have to do a 1 week preop diet anyways, so I doubt it's going to be a big deal. You still have a full week to go....it will be fine! I have been really strict on mine and probably shouldn't have been so "by the books." My surgery is Thursday so I guess I can make it a couple more days....lol. Good luck! -
Years back I had to see a specialist for an irregular heartbeat. I have my preop tomorrow for surgery Thursday and I a praying this doesn't show up on my EKG. Has anyone dealt with this before? I wasn't treated for anything and have been fine since then, so I guess I shouldn't worry!

Food Ideas Post-Op.......Surgery on the 16th!
lea3277 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having surgery on the 16th and I have my doctors instructions, but still need specific examples of foods you guys have eaten during the 4 week post-op period. My diet will be one week liquids, one week mushies, one week soft foods, and then the 4th week I will gradually add in regular foods. Please help.....any recipes, websites, etc. will be appreciated. I think after this 14 day liquid/protein diet, a think of Campbell's Soup in Hand will feel like a big feast to me! I am happy I have done well with the liquid diet, but it has been an experience. Thanks for any suggestions you "experienced" people may have! -
I'm having mine this coming Thursday and planning to back on Monday. Everyone says I should be able to since I just sit at a desk all day. Hope their right! Good luck.
