I was banded at the beginning of June and am losing weight, which I feel good about. When I went to the doctor's yesterday, I was weighed (for a second time) on a Tanita Body Compostion Analyzer. The PA and I compared results from last month to this. Weight had gone down, but I was was disturbed that my Fat Mass and Fat % was higher in September than August. My FFM (Fat-free mass) - muscle, bone, etc., was lower. The PA told me to start eating more Protein (90 gm/day as opposed to 60) and to go to a nutritionist with my food diary. Has anyone else experienced a problem with higher fat% and lower muscle mass? I exercise 4 days a week - which is all I can fit in. Thanks

Has anyone been asked to keep track of their net calories? The PA tells me that I am burning more muscle than fat. I exercise and was hoping that the fat was going, but that is not the case. So I am being told to keep my net calories around 1200 (or less). HELP.

Please keep us all posted on what you find out. Good luck, and get to a doctor that cares~

62 years old and "wings" are getting more and more pronounced, but I know that I do not want surgery. I do arm exercises, and am really trying to focus on them, but they just flap there and mock me! Anyone know of exercises other than weights? If weights, what weight is best, how many reps? Maybe I am doing it wrong. Thanks for any suggestions.

I was helping my 95 year old mom get ready to go out yesterday, and noticed that SHE has batwings, too. I don't think she weighed over 130 even when pregnant. Maybe it is just my genes. Will exercise anyway. I'm not going to take steroids, so I might have to just accept my wings.

Thanks, I will add more freeweights to my "fun." Not sure it will help, but I can at least say I gave it my best shot

Thanks, Karen. I am glad I have someone who understands. I agree about the surgery. I have never seen it look "okay."

7-Days OUT of Surgery
carymom replied to Tamie2169's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you taking Vitamins for lap band patients? I hope so. I never had diarrhea - the opposite for me. BUT, I do know that my energy level is much better since I have been really good about taking the vitamins. I am retired, so never had to worry about co-workers. Walking is far and away best for getting rid of the upper body gas. If it is intestinal gas, then the best position to be in is laying on your stomach, with your knees under you and your butt up in the air. Sounds funny, but you get rid of the gas and there is no odor. (I don't recommend this work work, though ) I think you should contact your doctor to find out if you need something to stop the diarrhea. With as little as you put in your body, you can't afford to not keep it in. Again, make sure you're taking your vitamins. When I forget them, I go into a coma-like sleep. It is going to get MUCH better. Stay the course. Keep us posted, and congratuations for taking the plunge. -

Love the boxing in Wii Active. It will make you sweat! -
LOL! I am so glad to hear that others are uncoordinated, too. I have got to figure out the right kind of shoes, though. For now, I'm going to blame it on the shoes

i haven't been to an "in person" support group. Is it something we all should do? Congratulations on your surgury. Are you feeling better this week?

Ordered Zumba and used it for the first time tonight. Sweating!!! Oh, yeah, I can't move my feet the way I could when I was younger. I really did enjoy it, though. What kind of shoes do you wear when exercising? My shoes seemed to bulky, but I don't want to go without them.

Slow weight Loss...is this normal
carymom replied to reaperofharvest's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think 40 pounds is fantastic. I did not look at your profile, or have any idea what you want to lose, but I think you need to keep your eyes on the prize - and that (for me) is NOT continuing to gain weight and feeling better. I have not had a fill - only got my band in June - so I can't identify with how hard it might be to fill. Can something be done about its depth? So sorry. In any event, please continue to post and let everyone know how you are doing. -

Maybe some muscadine grapes or yogurt? Chai Tea from the grocery store has lots of protein in it. HAPPY BIRTHDAY and good luck!
