GO TO HAWAII. It is an amazing trip, and you will be so much smaller by the time you go, you will feel great about yourself. Don't give up this opportunity just because you feel like you won't be able to do things. I'll be you'll be surprised at what you'll be able to do at your new, lighter weight. Think about all of the heathy foods you can have on the islands - lots of fresh fish! Keep us posted on your YES decision.

I m new at all this forums and banding please help
carymom replied to insanejane's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Insane... I am so happy for you. You will find that at 55 you are certainly not the oldest bandster. I am 62, got banded in June, and am SO thrilled that I did. Please, please, please do everything the doctors say and start recording everything you eat. I use FatSecrets, but MyFitnessPal is used by a lot of people. The great thing is the programs can be used on your smartphone and the automatically sync to your computer - or vice-versa. Get ready for exercise, a lot of complements, and buying new clothes or having them tailored. I had to go through a lot of tests, too. Oh, and I have told VERY few that I had (or was having) the surgury. I didn't even tell my two grown sons until it was all over with. Telling, of course, is a personal choice, that I made. Keep us all in the loop of what is going on. You have a lot of support here. -

I drank Isopure for the first week or so. Not that great a taste, but it did stay down. I did that because I was told to stay with Clear Liquids, so maybe the Protein Powder is making you sick. I hope you get it resolved quickly. Maybe call the doctor's office on Monday and ask if there is anything they can suggest. Also, if you are taking any kind of meds, they should all be liquid or chewable. I did some of the chewable for a few days, and THAT left a funny taste in my mouth. I was banded in June, and am so thrilled that I did, but you really need to call and check on the nausea. Sounds like you're doing well with getting through the surgical problems of gas, etc., so you're on the upswing. Keep us all posted on how things are going for you.

Sounds like you're doing great to lose two pounds a week, so maybe your body is just adjusting. I know that in my case, I have stayed at one weight for a week and then appeared to gain a pound and then dropped three. I have also had to shock my body into losing by eating more than the standard number of calories, but mainly eating more Protein. Sometimes your body thinks you've entered an ice age and are therefore starving to death. It's going to hold on to what it has. By eating a little more (as I said, in mainly protein), you can convince your body that you are, indeed, not starving and have all of the food you need. Keep us posted. Oh yeah, I am not making this up. It is paraphrased from a nutritionist I visited just recently.

I was self-pay - 10,000 plus the one year of fills - another 1,000. My insurance paid for all costs such psychologist, upper GI, EKG. I borrowed the money from my mother - who did not ask why I needed it. I have sense been able to pay her back. I am so glad that I had this done. I plan on it working as a forever cure for my obesiety.

Keep up with what you're eating and how many calories you are burning when exercising. I am doing something similar to what you are, and a nutritionist and the PA both told me to eat more protein, but to be careful to keep up with everything I eatl According to them, you might not be getting enough calories when you exercise hard, and your body starts going after the protein in it.

I agree with bellaloco. I don't do yoga, but I do crunches in my body shaping and repreebok classes and they have not caused a problem. I think that your body will tell you what you can and can not do. You may need to refrain from certain positions for a while, but you will get there.

Keep us all posted. The Lap Band should help with the GERD, if you do things right.

Three-0 I admire what you have been able to accomplish. I was banded the first week in June and have not had a fill (because doctors have not felt that I needed on. Have lost 27 lbs at this point.. I try very hard to eat what I am supposed to, and I keep a food diary as you do. My mindset is, "This is going to work!" I had to save up and pay for my procedure without the help of insurance, so I promised myself that I would make this work. So far it has. I would like to lose another 22 pounds, and have my BMI in the normal range. That is my goal. Lots of protein drinks to get in the high number of grams of protein that I have been told that I need. STILL not good at eating 5 - 6 meals a day, which I have also been asked to do. I hope to keep hearing how things are going for you. You seem to have it all together.

Today: Three months out - lost 27 lbs Breakfast 1 scrambled egg and EAS carb control protein shake Lunch: FIsh, cooked carrots and peas, two small bites of mashed potatoes Snack: nutrisystem chocolate peanut butter bar Dinner: Salmon and a plum Too many carbs, in my opinion. The nutrisystem bar put me over in carbs. Have to watch that in the future.

How many calories are you eating per day?
carymom replied to MrsGillen07's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Between 900-1200, and more than 60 grams of Protein. Remember to eat the protein, then the veggies, then the carbs. Go back to some Protein drinks if you can. Best of luck. Keep us posted. Use Fat Secrets, My Fitness Pal or SOMETHING to keep track of everything. Do it immediately. Someone else mentioned that, and I totally agree. -
