How Is Weight Loss For Those Over 350 Lbs Or Bmi Over 50
NWgirl replied to earthsmile's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started at 260 and am to whatever my ticker says now over about a month. I did a low calorie diet for two weeks, then a pseudo liquid diet for two weeks prior to surgery (most days was two protein shakes, one protein bar, and two yogurts). I did have three normal meals during my pseudo liquid, but maintained a diet mentality so did not pig out like I would have in the past. since surgery on the 20th, I have done pureed soups, sugar free pudding, protein shakes, and yogurts. Tonight I had some soft noodles because I flew into another state for a work conference and there weren't any soups at the buffet dinner. -
today is day 6 for me- I did pretty well with thru normal gas pains, but as of two days ago I have been having pretty terrible left shoulder pain that sometimes travels into my neck. Your gas pains are probably showing in your rib
-
the gas pain was minimal for me to start, making me think I was free and clear, but starting Thursday it started in the shoulder. I have also felt a little bloated. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it skipped you

I am doing well as of day three post op, I went from slight pain to just soreness. Still having gas pains, even though I've been moving a lot. I have been using a heating pad and taking gas chewables, but not sure if they've actually helped.am able to get a protein shake, soups, and sf pudding down. Still struggling to hit 64+oz water.

I think the only thing that can be said is you should stop buying them. It is obviously a food you can't just have a little of and be done.

I bought the O-Purity vitamins by unjury , they are band specific. I am also taking a Calcium chocolate chew, Biotin 5000, and a sublingual b12. I am on what I consider post op day 5 and am feeling well. Still have gas pains, even though I a moving a lot. Also feel kind of bloated from the gas. Have been using a heating pad and gas chewables.I am able to eat three meals a day. I get full easier, but do get hanger growls/pain in between. I am drinking one Protein shake and different Soups throughout the day. i would say day 3 was a turning point for me. I went from being in slight pain from my incisions to just feeling sore. Have stopped my pain meds.

you should go to the Dr's so they can look at your incisions. If hey are getting infected, you need to get on a regimen asap.

Bringing Protein Powder On The Plane?
NWgirl replied to MoreThanJustaPrettyFace's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If it's not in carry-on, you're fine. I will be traveling this weekend and so I have a checked bag that I will be putting pre-made protein shakes in. I have read through the TSA site that medically required liquids are not subject to the fluid rules, but don't know quite how you would get past that. -
if they're only denying you on the second stipulation of their policy, then it sounds as of it's being followed correctly. Morbid obesity is 40+ BMI. It may be BS, and the only thing you can do is write a supporting letter about family history etc. I have read of people having to track down weight records for 3 or 5 years from the past, and some have a hard time because they did not go to dr's often enough. They do not write their policies to make it easy for people to get approval.

I Was Ready To Got Back!
NWgirl replied to jackieu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told only Tylenol 325mg or liquid adult tylenol. Other meds can cause issues, or so says my surgical team. I am back at work today, and feel okay. I came in yesterday for a couple hours and did notice some shoulder gas pains, but came prepared today -
Where Is Ur Port Located?
NWgirl replied to my3kidz36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is also on the right side, about two inches up and 1/2-1 inch over from belly button. -
Yes, I'm feeling better and better as the days go on Day three has definitely turned for me. I am sore, but not in pain. Still forcing myself to eat and finding it hard to drink 64+oz. Definitely still have gas issues. I found the day after surgery when I weighed, I had dropped 3 or 4lb, but now today I am jumping around between old and "new" weight. I think I will put the scale away for another week and see the real numbers soon. I still have a lot of gas, so wondering if this is playing with the scale.

What Exactly Is The Liquid Diet For??
NWgirl replied to YumiiShyy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They will know if you did not follow the liquid or low fat diet by the size of your liver. Some Dr's will close you back up and not operate if they find your liver to be too large. -
I am definitely not there, but I can probably provide an explanation from research: Sliming is what happens when something gets stuck. The body begins to produce excess saliva to try and break down what is stuck. Sometimes you will be able to pass the stuck item, and sometimes is comes back up in form of PB. a PB (productive burp) is something that happens when you've been stock that dislodges the food. It is not like vomiting (no stomach acid), but is literally the same food you didn't eat right coming back up the way it went down.

Great job ladies! Glad your surgeries went well!

Hope everyone is feeling well

They don't taste too bad. Approx the size of a quarter but a little thicker. A lot of vitamin

I bought O-Purity chewable bariatric vitamins, band specific. I also am taking a calcium chew, biotin 5000, and a sublingual B12.

Getting Banded April 18Th ? Scared
NWgirl replied to SashaWLS's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded on 3/20/12 and can say my post-op experience has gone really well. I have been sore, but have walked around a lot, drank peppermint tea, and used a heating pad- these are all things I've heard recommended for gas pains. Otherwise, the actual incision pain is minimal. The only part that causes serious discomfort is where the port is, and as long as I am careful when I am moving around in bed or getting up/sitting down, it is okay. I have been making sure to stay on top of my pain meds as well. As for the foods, it is your decision to eat them or not. We have all read about what can happen if we're too tight, so I think the best bet is to really listen to your body and let it tell you if you are doing okay. I also went on a self-imposed pseudo liquid diet for the few weeks before surgery. I did have three "Last Meals," but I ate very small portions and practiced the rules of chewing, no drinking, etc. I want this to work for me, and I am the only one that can make it happen. -
They can verify the insurance covers WLS, but he still needs to be submitted for approval. The insurance company will decide if the procedure is medically necessary or not at that time. Being that insurance carriers can vary in requirements, you could be looking at as little as 1-1.5 months and as long as 6-7 months.

Hi there! I was banded on the 20th and am doing fine. Great for you on the weight loss so far!

Birth Control Pills
NWgirl replied to myjourneyagain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay, official word from my gynecologist is YES, WLS, including Lapband, can cause the body to not absorb the hormones properly. Some people may continue to absorb fine, but it varies person to person. My gynecologist said the options for people with WLS are: Nuva Ring, IUD Morina, Fibre IUD (?spelling?), and Paragaurd. I am going to try the Nuva ring, and then if I don't like it, I will go for the Morina. I am so glad I saw this post the other day!!! -
I was banded on the 20th and actually feel really good. Today, I just feel a general stiffness and not the pain I have felt for the first few days. My port area is still sore when I get out of bed, but it is slowly hurting less and less. Last night was the first night I did not wake up during the night to take my pain meds. I didn't have too bad of gas pains, but have been walking a lot, drinking peppermint tea, and used a heating pad for some slight pain I got in my shoulder last night. I did try some vitamins yesterday (children's) but won't be using them again today. They made my tummy feel really weird. I am expecting my O-Purity chewable vitamins by Unjury to arrive today, so I will probably start those tonight. I am also taking a squeezable Coromega Omega-3 Orange pouch for fish oil, biotin 5000, and a sublingual B12 because the other two bariatric band vitamins had 833% B12 and O-Purity only had 100%. I have been using my little lung incentive spirometer. I am still not back to the capacity pre-surgery, but got awfully close today. Each day gets better as the pain goes away. I just am unable to breathe in deep enough because it hurts my stomach/diaphragm.

ask yourself this- do you think she followed the rules? Sounds like someone who was too restricted, overate to cause the esophagus issues, and probably did not rely on her surgical team. just take the negative with a grain of salt ans really think about the why here.

Day Three A So Tight.
NWgirl replied to flab u less's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My tummy gets really bloaty/tight after eating. I was able to do a full 11oz protein shake for breakfast, and just now had a small Greek yogurt and 6oz veggie broth. I cannot believe I am able to eat so little right now and not feel deprived. I even had to force myself to eat the yogurt and drink the broth.
