  1. There are too many carbs in the Ensure. I can't seem to find the carb info for the other shake. The Premier Nutrition chocolate shakes from costco have high protein and low calories/carbs/sugar/fat.

    Pain In Throat

possibly acid reflux. I would make an appointment with your Dr to confirm.
  3. I was not required to do the liquid diet either (just low fat) but I did decide to do it for a week prior to surgery. I had two protein shakes, two Greek yogurts, and one Quest protein bar a day. It was good practice for after and helped get some more weight off.
  4. You could easily contact the local hospitals and ask if they are equipped to deal with a Lapband related emergency if you had one. This way, you would have piece of mind knowing where you should and should not go. I know of two local hospitals in Portland, Oregon that have bariatric programs (OHSU and Legacy Good Sam). Better to be safe than sorry.

    Help Lol

I was told to find how much Protein you need per day, do body weight x 0.3=grams of protein. To the original poster, what are you eating now on a daily basis? Breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Do you exercise? I try to have some weight control oatmeal with some milk for breakfast, 1/2 salad wrap and cottage cheese for lunch, and the remaining 1/2 wrap for dinner. I do switch it up now and then, but try and keep my calories between 1200-1400 per day. I like to try and find unprocessed foods and veggies for meals. I also don't drink sodas or other calorie laden drinks.
  6. if there is not a leak, some advise to pull all fluid out, let it rest for a month or two, and then start the fill process again. This should give you that gradual restriction you found in the beginning. Don't give up- you obviously know how to use your band. As for the size, I think the 4cc was what was available at the time of your banding.
  7. I find if I eat less than four hours before bedtime or if I don't drink 80oz+ water daily, the loss may not show, even if I'm exactly on plan.
  8. If you are dedicated to 100% following the lifestyle changes, then all of it. There are those very, VERY rare cases where the band does not work at all through no fault of the patient. Most who "fail" do not follow the general rules recommended by their Dr's.

    I'm So Confused!

Sounds like your band moved up and you no longer have pouch? I've heard that bands sometime need repositioning. I hope you find the answers you need.
  10. I am wondering how the old timers decide they've had enough food at one meal. I went out to dinner and had a cup of chili and some green salad, and found I stopped eating when I got the throat feeling telling me not to eat more. I am wondering if people go by this signal to stop their meal, or if they weigh out/eat a small amount and call it good, whether or not they get their full signal.

    Tomorrow Is Band Day!

Good luck! I had to be at the hospital at 5:30am too, and I ended up staying up til about 1 because I was nervous! You will be fine

Shoulder Pain 7 Months Post Op

Some have a nerve that gets pinched as you tighten the band that can cause the shoulder pain.

    Help!

    Peppermint tea too.
  14. Last night was the first time I actually got the tightness/warning signal. I have actually enjoyed that specific meal a few times post-banding (this was the first since a 2cc fill) and I've eaten more at the other meals, although my new "More" is about 1/3-1/2 less than what I would have eaten in the past. I have also found that another subconscious signal for me is when I take a deep breath towards the end of a meal.
  15. Technically, avg weight loss is between 1-2lb a week (coming from Allergan itself), so about 8-10 a month. The bigger you are, the faster you lose initially. If you are trying to compare weight loss with banding vs other surgeries, the other surgeries lose more rapidly to start. At five years post-op, the band and other forms of WLS are almost identical in amount of weight lost.

    I Have Never Found Restriction!!!

I have read a post by someone who says when they can't decipher between head hunger and real hunger, they go to the fridge and grab a healthy fruit or veggie. If they don't want it, then they aren't really hungry.

    Burping, All The Time

Like Cazzy said, it sounds like you are eating solids too early. Everyone's Dr is different, so I just hope you are following the post-op diet recommended by the Dr. As for the burping, I had extreme burping for two-three weeks post-op. I think it has to do with the gas they pump you up with and being full. It did go away after awhile. I only burp occasionally now.

    Had No Idea

peppermint tea for the gas pain too. Lots of walking, and take your pain meds on a schedule.
  20. I would recommend full liquids.
  21. I'm confused, you use port and band interchangeably... I can't imagine your band flipped, that would mean your stomach twisted. Your port is sutures into muscle, if it comes loose, then it is free floating. Usually people have a surgery to flip the port back over and reattach.

    Vertical Sleeve...

Sick For The First Time After Surgery

If you think you are going to vomit, call your Dr and ask if they could give you an anti-nausea medication. This way, you could have it for any future spells.
  24. What kind of pre-op have you been on? Shakes or low-fat? I would do complete liquids if you are required to lose weight before they will operate.
