The Fitbit Aria. I use the Fitbit tracker device and log on their site, so it merges perfectly. It is right along the same lines as the Withing scale (which I almost bought before I heard that Fitbit was releasing one). http://www.fitbit.com/product/aria

They Want To Remove My Band. I Say Nooooo!
NWgirl replied to newhope4me's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If a dr has never unfilled/filled a port, I would not be their first try. They could easily puncture your tubing, thus making the band defective unless you have another surgery to fix it. If it's a last resort, find someone who knows ports (think chemo nurse) and have them do an unfill. Also, you could look into Fill Centers USA and see if there is someone local to help you. http://www.medicaltourismco.com/weight-loss/lap-band-fills.php -
I probably should have. I might even look into it still.

I don't know if my change was due to surgery or what, but I used to HATE olives before and I love them now...

Some scales can be so picky! I just bought a high tech wifi scale (which seems to weigh perfectly) and the one I had before would do the 2-3 pound jump if you weighed a couple minutes apart. The only plus to that old one is that it said I weighed less. This new one agrees with the Dr's scale... Boy, was I sad when I had to add a couple pounds back to my "Lost" weight...

Mine is genetic, so I was bound to get it sooner or later. Funny thing is, I have heard some people say it can be a reason for no weight loss on traditional diets and others scoff at the idea that it could stop loss. Frankly, the research points to the former and so it's a little frustrating having a person WITHOUT a thyroid condition telling you that's not a contributing reason for why you never succeeded with traditional dieting.

depends on what you do. I run a restaurant and was fine with two full days off, one partial day, then two day weekend, and then one more partial before I went back. If you are expected to do a lot of heavier lifting, I'd say take more time. If you have a desk job, a few days may be fine. People heal really differently, so there's no telling how you will physically feel.

Thanks For The Info, It Was A Life-Improver!

I use those too -
Find sugar free syrups (Torini has a lot) and you can change up the flavor without the guilt of calorie/sugar laden mixers.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroid at the beginning of my band journey, but it did not hinder my surgery. I think as long as you are taking meds and your thyroid is stable, it shouldn't be a problem. If your surgeon is refusing to do the surgery, then find someone else. It's not the end of the world.

Dr's fill the band slowly so you don't suddenly experience delayed, too-tight restriciton. If you go to another country for fills, keep in mind your original US dr may refuse to touch you after, and it's not like you can hide how much fluid is in the band.

Jeans Do Not Fit At Waist Line?? But Lost Weight!
NWgirl replied to newme0617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hear the protein drinks and sugar free stuff can also cause excess gas in your system, which can cause bloating. -
Tell you Dr and go back to the diet you are supposed to be on. The post-op diet is for healing of your stomach, and you can increase the risks of problems occurring by eating normally because your stomach is not supposed to be churning to digest right now. This churning can cause sutures to pop and pre-disposes the band to easier slips.

Anyone Using A Website Like Spark People Or My Fitness Pal?
NWgirl replied to Kerra's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fitbit.com, in combination with their wifi scale and the calorie expenditure/activity tracker. -
When people start from liquids to solids or mushies, they usually regain some weight. It's normal, don't get discouraged.

one month.

Also, Lipton Cup-a-Soup cream of chicken are very good. I also could not stomach the regular broths. I have also heard that people take a sieve and strain chicken noodle soup and throw the noodles/veggies out. For me, this was too wasteful but would definitely work in a pinch.

Did the Dr put fluid in your band? I also would get feeling nauseous a couple times in the first couple weeks. I think it had something to do with the gas and eating. It does get better, just hang in there!

Pre-Surgery Appiontment Brings Two Old Friends Back Together

That's awesome! I would loved to have had a friend to take the journey with me -
I am 23 and had a BMI of 42 to start. After receiving approval, I was free to lose weight. I lost about 20-25 pre-surgery and about 10 since.

call your insurance company and ask. Some allow weight loss and some will not approve if you go below a 40 BMI.

Question Regarding Stretching Pouch
NWgirl replied to Fat Girl Slim's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am no medical professional, but have to imagine you would need to eat A LOT to stretch your pouch at this time. In the future when your pouch is tight and the food can't be easily pushed through, then yes... Now, no. -
I have Anthem BCBS under the Kroger national plan. From orientation to surgery, the wait was about two months. Approval took two weeks. I was not required to do any supervised diet. I had to submit a list of what diets (ie Weight Watchers) I had done, the year done, and approx weight loss (the last two were more estimates). I did have to be above 40 bmi without comorbidities or above 35 bmi with 2+ comorbidities.
