  1. PB and throwing up are two separate things- I would not purposely try to do either, as they can cause band slips. A PB is pretty much regurgitation of food that is above the pouch and has little to no stomach acid mixed in (this is what most talk about when they say vomit). Vomiting is full out vomit from below the band, which is dangerous with the band because the contents have to be pushed back through the tiny hole created by the band, making the chance of slip higher.

    Where Is Stuck Feeling?

you will know when you're stuck, and depending on how bad you may just feel throat discomfort or painful chest discomfort.

    20 With A Date!

I just got the band in March at 23 and would suggest you have a good support system and a local support group to attend. Also, take advantage of a bariatric dietician and learn which foods will be the best to eat. Overall, realize this is a journey and not an overnight thing. There will be days when head hunger rules and others that rush by. Take the good with the bad and truly be involved in the experience. It's very rewarding!

Help! Need To Get Back On Track

Have you visited with a counselor or a psychologist to try and find the root of why you're overweight and why you're sabotaging yourself?

    Not Band

    Congratulations! Hope it's painless!
  7. I had a Dr that I switched from when I started the process because she was always a bit rude. I had tried other insurance program weight loss options (where you speak with someone at insurance as a coach and see a dietician and Dr) and she was totally unreceptive and cold. I figured I would get her out of the way first thing.

    Ahhhhhhh It's Becoming Really Real

I was only required to be on a low-fat diet prior to surgery, but also chose to do a pseudo liquid with protein drinks, yogurt, and a protein bar per day.

    Horrible Food Choices.

If I have a bad day, I just evaluate what went wrong (emotional issues, head hunger, etc) and make a plan for the next day. If I'm feeling particularly wishy-washy and don't think I will make good choices, I sit down the night before and plan out/pack my meals. Just acknowledge the problem and then move on. No need to beat yourself up about it.

    New Girl On The Blog

As I've seen many times on the board, "it's just another diet til you find restriction." Until you are at the right fill level, you will have to diet like the olden days to lose weight.

    No Restriction

you need to keep visiting your surgeon for monthly follow up appointments. At these appointments, they will decide based on weight loss if you need another fill.

    New* Lapband Help

I do not have diabetes, but if you are truly looking into this for that reason, I feel obliged to tell you that gastric bypass "cures" diabetes at a higher rate than lapband.
  13. I moved four weeks and a couple days after surgery. I was okay, but really, who likes moving?!

    Snacks

I actually don't snack per say, but instead have my next meal when I am hungry. If I get a sweet tooth, I have a fiber plus bar (caramel coconut). For snacks, you could try 100 calorie popcorn, hardboiled egg, deli meats, string cheese, etc. I would try to keep snacks to less than 150 calories.

    6 Weeks Post Op 6 Cc's

I also feel it immediately. I started to notice light restriction at 4cc and am now at 4.5cc with a little more. I go in next week for another fill and am hoping for another .5 or 1cc.

    Reflux And Surgery

I can't really answer your question, but I have read a lot on the boards about hernias causing reflux. Did they mention if they thought you had a hernia or not?
  17. NWgirl

    Uh..... Ohh

I guess my only question is, do you think you're ready for this? I would also recommend reading The End of Overeating, which describes ways the food corporations make foods addictive. Maybe it will help to shed some light on why you are the way you are. I was 23 when banded, and I welcomed the help with open arms. I have tried many, many diets in my life and have been obese since age 7, so I knew that if I didn't do this that I would spend the rest of my life struggling with weight and ultimately regret passing up the chance to change my life in a good way.

    After Surgery Vitamins

I was told to take a chewable multi and calcium chew in addition to meds I was already taking (thyroid, iron, Vit D). I also take a chewable B complex and was given the equation of body weight x 0.3 = amount of protein needed.
  19. Yes, my psych visit also consisted of taking a 300+ question test and then meeting with the actual Dr after and going over any problems. The test is used to gauge if you have any unrealistic expectations or underlying psychological issues they should be concerned about. Don't be worried!
  20. It seems like your path has taken a long time to get to its destination, but you're here and focusing on you. I'm sorry about the loss of your father, and hope that you can find support and guidance here.

    Do Not Want Protein Shakes

I have ordered unjury chocolate splendor due to reviews, so hopefully it tastes good. I have not really had shakes since post-op diet almost four months ago. Once in awhile I will want a smoothie, and so I blend a shake with fruits. I go well over my daily recommended Protein with food though. You should find something you can use for the day or two after fills- most surgeons require at least one full day liquids (thus my ordering Unjury).
  22. A gal I know just had her gallbladder removed today. She had gastric approx 1.5 years ago, and it came to the point where she suffered pain after eating and other common issues. I would say get it checked out anyways, you never know what it could be.
  23. I would say suck on an ice cube and hopefully it gets better.
  24. chewing causes the release of saliva as the body is preparing to digest food I'm not sure if churning starts automatically as part of this...
