  1. Congratulations!! You are doing great . I'm going to have to go with D.A. and say that your sugar was probably too low. But look at you, getting out and walking around getting some exercise. I'm proud of you, just stick with it.
  2. Just wanted to give my idea to anyone who needs it. Every Sunday I sit down with a little schedule book that has every day with all the times in it. I plan out my meals for the entire week and write down what I'm going to eat and when. Then I never feel like theres a moment in the day when I'm feeling hungry and don't know what to do next. I try to eat something small every two hours if I can. Yogurt, lite syrup fruit, pickles, etc. Good things. This helps me to not go to the cafeteria and feel like I have free reign at whatever is up there! Trust me, it does help . By all means I'm not the "jesus" of eating. I still have mistakes! It just makes it a little easier to stay on track!

    struggling

If I had to give any advice, it would be this...I was banded 1 month ago. I haven't had a fill either, and this is VERY difficult. But, every Sunday I write out what my meals are going to be like for the week. I do a daily chart with times and everything. That way I have a schedule. If its not on the schedule, its not going in my mouth! (except for last night). So yes, I do occasionally slip because I feel so hungry. But, most of the time its head hunger. Like last night. My daughter brought home a bunch of candy from school. Of course it all had to be my favorite!! I slipped pretty bad with it, but I'm right back on schedule today. Try to look at every day as a new day. If you slip up and totally go crazy, the next day try to keep it in check. I know its hard, it is terrible for me too. Don't get down on yourself, thats the worst thing you could do. Drink and drink water until you can't stand it. Its the best thing for you and it will make you full at least for awhile. Hang in there!
  5. I'm right there with both of you. I was banded 6/30. Feel like I can eat a ton. I try not to let myself. I've only lost 4 lbs (other than the preop diet) since surgery. It is a little frustrating, but I try my hardest not to let it bother me. I've started eating the Dannon greek yogurt. Its the consistancy of sour cream and was hard to get use to, but now I like it :-) And it has 12 g protein! Lets try to stay focused. Our fills are around the same time, 8/9 is mine. I'm wondering how much my surgeon will put in. But, it probably won't be enough for too much satisfaction. I'm just trying to be happy in the present and the rest will fall into place. Try and stay positive and work hard the next couple weeks....WE CAN DO IT!
  6. So jealous. Everyone is talking about their weight loss and I'm still stuck! I lost quite a bit pre-op, but I've only lost 3 lbs since the day of surgery...which was JUNE 30!! I'm getting a little irritated...grrr. It will get better, I'm just sad its not coming off faster.
  7. When I first had the lapband, I was really frustrated. I felt like I could eat "anything"! It made me mad because I felt like the "band" should be doing something. I'm only 2 weeks out, but just this week I've tried to be more patient and have learned to listen to my body. To the signs of actual physical hunger. You can read and read and read books, but until you have the procedure, its hard to understand what they are talking about. By sitting back and thinking about what I'm doing and how I feel, it all is beginning to make sense. I thought I would feel something right away and that all my feelings of hunger would be gone. Boy was I in for a reality check. Things are getting a little better every day. And I'm so thankful to all of you who helped me with my last post :-) You guys are GREAT!

    FFF

I hate to post this because I know how upset people get when they read about people not sticking to the diet. I feel so helpless and am really in need of some encouragement. I am a week and a half out and am feeling TERRIBLE. I feel like I have an obsession with food more now than I ever did. I hate being at home....I'm pissed because I feel nothing....and I can't sleep because I'm so obsessed with the fact that I'm doing exactly what I didn't want to do. Nothing makes me nauseated, I can drink pretty much a whole bottle of water at a time and do just fine. I didn't think that was even possible in the beginning. I chose to have lapband because I didn't want my stomach cut up and the possibility of all the complications. Now I just wish I would have gone for the other . I have to wait 6 weeks for a fill and I'm half tempted to ask for a appetite suppressant to get me through it!! Maybe I just wasnt cut out for this at all.

    Iodine?

    alcohol will do the trick!
  11. I'm a week out too. Definitely normal. The bump will go away as the incision heals. Yes thats where the port is and it will be sore for awhile :-) I have to ask, are either one of you hungry???? It is just terrible. I feel like I can eat anything and I TOTALLy want to because I'm so hungry. I'm not trying to jump off the wagon, I just HATE this stage of the game. whew, glad I got that off my chest.
  12. Does anyone know the reason behind the doctors suggesting NO SUGAR on the post op diet? My doctors instructions are things like sugar free popsicles and pudding. Why can't i have some regular jello??

    gall bladder

I can explain a little. Rapid weight loss can cause problems with the gallbladder. It can develop stones and/or sludge, or it could be neither and it just quits functioning like its suppose to. Symptoms can be painful right upper quadrant abdomen after eating fatty/spicy foods. Sometimes it doesn't even have to be a specific food. The pain can shoot straight through to the back, sometimes will cause the right shoulder/neck to feel sore. can feel like intense heart burn. The best part about it though, is people can live without the gallbladder and its a fairly easy organ to get rid of. So, what I would do is #1. Call the doctor #2. Get an ultrasound (ct does NOT show the gallbladder well enough for it to be diagnostic. Unless you have a huge stone that they could see, ultrasound is the best. #3. If the ultrasound is negative, do a nuclear medicine study with an ejection fraction . Thats what tests the function. Hope you get better soon!

    2 days post-op

I am 2 days post op as well. I find it kind of weird..I have NO IDEA which hole my port is in. I'll see him next week, so I will definitely ask. But when I slightly push on the incisions , I don't feel anything. The gas is whats getting to me the most. Plus, when I do eat something it typically makes my nausea come back full swing. Sooo, I'm just chillin with water and sugar free popsickles

    I cheated a little...feel so bad.

I think you should feel good in the fact that you cheated with something like "soup".....just think, before you were banded and was on a diet, you'd cheat with something like Mcdonalds or a pizza, etc. Now you feel guilty for soup. I think you're on the right track!
  16. I have this crazy idea in my head that the band is going to feel wiggly and weird inside my stomach . Can you feel it? Does it ever hurt? Fill me in peeps, I've got 4 days left!
  17. I don't take your post as saying "oh lord, please help me throw up so I know when to quit eating"....what you are saying is that you don't feel any different and it's just as hard now to control the food intake as it was before surgery. You may be wondering why the heck you got the surgery if it isn't going to assist you in your weight loss journey. I would be frustrated as well. First of all, take a deep breath....Second, never give up. It definitely isn't wise to go on eating what you did before, no matter how hard it is to restrict yourself. If you feel like you need to eat, try to put the right things in your mouth. I know its hard, and a lot of people can empathize with you. Make sure and talk to your doctor and hopefully they will have some answers for you. You made the right decision to change your life, it is a process that takes a long time to perfect!!
  18. Hi everyone!! Pre-op diet is going as good as it can . I'm starving, but I'm also losing weight!!!!! So excited about that. My band is scheduled for JUNE 30TH. Message me if you need a buddy, anyone else on the pre-op and about to starve ??!! lol

    Not Getting Support

Yes, I am currently going through the same thing. In all honesty, I haven't told very many people BECAUSE of the negative responses I've been getting. And typically its the really skinny people who are quick to comment. One coworker said "so you just feel like this is the end, theres no other way to do it, huh?" I said, no I feel like this is going to be the beginning of my new life! Once I am banded, I'll be happy to tell people, but really its no ones business but my own. I will be working hard, so I know its not just the band doing all the work. So who knows if I'll talk about it a lot or not. But, the most important person you need to keep happy is yourself. A lot of times people are jealous because they think you will be skinnier than they are!! Thats why a lot of people are negative. Keep your head up. We are doing this for a reason and have committed our life to changing. Hang in there!
  20. The insurance company called to say I'm approved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOLY MOLY, HOW THE HE!! DID THAT HAPPEN??!! Don't know, don't care, but I"m SUPER stoked!! Bring on June 30th!

Self Pays -- How much did you pay?

I think the surgeons fee is awfully expensive. I've seen them range from 2800-4500 for the surgeons fee, but then they added a "assistant surgeon fee" too. The hospital charge is a little much too.

    Hyperthyroidism..

I'm the crazy one who actually gives people radioactive iodine for a living . Its not as bad as it sounds. A lot of times the "anti" thyroid medicines don't cut it and eventually the thyroid will work so hard it actually goes hypo, sometimes inactive. So, by giving the radioactive iodine, we just speed up the process and it typically makes people feel a whole lot better, sooner. I'm a thyroid patient myself. YES, the stereotypical hyperthyroid patients are skinny, but we see many many people with the opposite. One iodine treatment isn't going to impact fertility. Especially for hyperthyroid. Our cancer patients get 15-20 times the amount and there still isn't much of a risk. There's ALWAYS a slight risk with any kind of medical procedure. Its just radiation sounds so terrible, people are usually afraid of it. Most people don't think twice about traveling on an airplane, going to the mountains, spending a day out in the sun, etc. You get more radiation doing some of those things than what you would get with a treatment. I'm thinking the doctor wants it under control before surgery because the thyroid controls so many things. Its probably best this way, even though it puts your surgery off, which stinks!!!

    Menus and Charts

Do you have a menu you follow daily/weekly? What does your chart look like? Did you get it from a site, or make one up on your own? Needing some creative ways to keep one step ahead of a disaster :-)
