So, my wlj started in October of last year. I applied for a gastric plication study and was denied due to a discovery of a few SMALL gallstones. I had researched extensively and was so bummed (or depressed) when they told me i had been disqualified. My insurance doesn't cover any form of wls, and there was no way (I thought) I could ever afford any weight loss surgery on my own. I have tried EVERY single diet ever, I swear... the latest being the hcg diet. It worked, but I gained most of my weight back once I stopped taking the injections. One night, it hit me to research the gastric plication in Mexico. Low and behold, I found that it was actually in my reach (financially!) After researching the Drs, hospitals and procedures, I decided to go with alighterme.com and booked my gastric sleeve with Dr Lopez. I am scheduled for surgery on July 12th! I found that the gastric plication was a great surgery, but, I found that the sleeve was just a better fir for me. I am very excited and CANNOT wait to start my new journey! I am not worried about the flight, having surgery in MExico (bc I have read nothing but good reviews), how I will feel afterwards, OR being completely alone for FIVE days, I am most concerned about leaving my 2 little girls at home! (ages 4 and 1) I am so excited I found this board, and cant wait to talk more with you guys!!!

possible surgery site infection

When I met with my aftercare Dr, he told me to watch for the green/yellow discharge as it is a sign of infection and I would need to be seen -

Interal Stitch poking through incision...
Tara B posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery 3 weeks ago... I've done wonderful and have no complaints. My incisions seem to be healing great BUT I have noticed that I have the internal stitches poking though on one of my incisions. It doesn't hurt its not infected... but I'm not sure what to do at this point. I know they are dissolvable, so should I just wait it out? Hoping someone went through something similar or has some insight as to what I should do... Thanks! -

Tylenol after surgery

I was sleeved on July 25th... and I talked to the Dr about the gasX strips.. he said they are for helping release gas inside the bowls, and wont be very helpful in releasing the gas they pump into you -
I went to Dr. Kelly on the 25th of July.. and believe me-- I thought the SAME THING up until they knocked me out. Be assured that Dr. Kelly is a great surgeon, and he has a ton of experience to back that up. You will be fine!! Good Luck!

Question for mothers who have been sleeved????
Tara B replied to ChunkyAndFluffy75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a 4 year old..1 year old.. and a husband who works crazy hours. I returned home from Mexico 5 days after surgery and was back to cleaning and running around the next day. There were times I had to sit down for a few, but I felt great! (I think most of the pain subsided after day 3...and then I just walked, ALOT which I think really helped) -
i was also sleeved on monday. as far as the water concumption goes-- try room temp. fluids..they seem to go down WAY easier... also, the more you drink..the easier it seems to get. i have been lucky tho and havent had much pain after my surgery day.. no gas pain... just sore. i hope you start feeling better soon!

I had the hiccups the day OF my surgery and it was so painful... at times I felt as if I couldn't breathe...Thankfully, I haven't gotten them again.... are they pretty conman after surgery?
-
I was just sleeved on the 25th (so this past Monday) and I have no pain currently. The first night was by far the worst after that, but once the pain meds kick in, your good to go. I just had my drain removed and I just feel sore really... my belly is VERY bloated due to the gas (but i luckily have had no gas pain!) HTH!

Thanks for all the replies-- and your prayers! I appreciate them all The surgery went well-- and I slept on and off until about an hour ago (I just could not keep my eyes open!) I do remember waking up from surgery in a TON of pain. I screamed and cried for a good 30 minutes. The nurses kept telling me to "calm down there are other patients" .. which to me was the wrong thing to say when your not the one in excruciating pain..anyways, after about 3 or 4 ( i dont remember exactly) shots of pain medicine, i finally found relief and rested for the remaining part of the evening. I really dont know what happened with the meds and why they didnt work right to begin with ( i dont have any kind of tolerence to any kind of medications that i know of) I dont know if anyone has expirenced anything like that or not, it just didnt seem right to me. but, i woke up this morning and felt a miilion times better. still in a little pain but NOTHING like the night before. Everyone has been great and making sure i have everything i need. Before I left, I gave myself a pedicure and manicure, and as I was getting prepped for surgery they removed my polish. Not sure why.. but just some info so no one out there goes and pays for one right before they leave! I will try and post a play by play of my j ourney tomorrow once i get checked into the lucerna. I apologize if this post is all over the place-- i just wanted to make sure I replied today! But for anyone who us curious--- Dr. Kelly and Trish are great...and I would recommend Dr, Kelly to anyone! I felt in the best of hands!

So, I finally made it to Tj. My initial flight out of my hometown was delayed due to storms... so I ended up missing my connecting flight to SD. I ended up having to stay in a hotel and flying in the next morning. Right now I am just waiting on my turn to get sleeved! He has finished one patient, and is back with someone now. Trish came in and told me I should be expected back between 530 and 7... my nerves are going haywire I think the hardest thing so far is being without my kids. I cried when they dropped me off at the airport, I cried once I was alone in my hotel room, amd then i cried again this morning. I am a stay at home mom... so this is the longest I have been without them Well, i will attempt to update later. Please pray that all goes well for me!

The bottom just fell out :(

Have you thought about maybe going alone? I know there are alot of ladies on here that do (and I will be one of them in less than a week!) THat way your husband can look after your boys? I also have 2 young girls (ages 4 and 1) so I wanted to make sure my husband stayed behind to keep an eye on them (MOre so bc I am a stay at home mom, and they are with me ALL the time... not sure how they would act being with anyone else for 5 whole days!!) -
Anyone else going to be in Mexico on or around the 25th? After switching Drs (and then the date) I am anxiously awaiting to get sleeved. I am making this journey alone, so i was hoping to get in touch with someone else who will also be there! I am having the surgery at Mi Doctor Hospital .... has anyone been there? I have attempted NUMEROUS times to find any reviews or experiences from this hospital and cannot seem to locate anything!

I have been on a restricted diet the past week, however, I will not be starting "that" diet until Monday. I am very nervous, but have been slowly getting myself ready (i have been doing protein shakes for at least breakfast..and sometimes lunch for the past week)
-
I emailed Sandy-- she had just forgotten to inform me that the hospital changed when I switched Drs. I will also be going to Florence Medical and staying at the Lucerna-- so I am sure we will cross paths at some point!

Looks like we will be at different hospitals. I booked through a lighterme and they had pictures of both facilities http://www.alighterme.com/facilities.html do you know where you will be staying after surgery?

My insurance doesn't cover any form of WLS, and as a self pay patient, my only option was Mexico! After TONS of research I decided on Dr Ramos- Kelly and I am scheduled for July 25th. I was originally scheduled for July 12th, but had to reschedule I am so very excited and cannot wait to start my life on the losers bench!!!
