  4. Hi all! I got home about an hour ago... the whole process went by fairly smoothly. My stomach is a bit tight where the incisions are... but the gas pains are all gone. I have a question for you veteran banders... were you guys able to drink right after surgery? I was told that it'd be tough to drink and that I'd only be able to take very small sips at a time. However, I've been able to drink pretty nicely. I mean...I can't gulp the Water down... but I can drink fairly well. Thanks for all your support... my journey begins here!
  5. Oh geez...surgery in 3 and half hours!!!

    Called medicare...

seriously?? are you sure those aren't your surgeon's requirements? i have medicare and i was accepted by my surgeon immediately as i have a 35+ BMI and hypertension. Medicare does NOT do prior-authorization so most surgeons try to be as stringent as possible before doing the surgery. Surgeons are supposed to charge the full amount to the patient beforehand, perform the surgery, and then receive 80% from Medicare (if they approve). Depending on your surgeon's office, you may not have to pay upfront, as is the case for me. Medicare itself only requires the 40+ BMI or 35+ w/ comorbidity, as long as the surgery is done at a center of excellence and with an approved surgeon.

    Tofu

Korean food has tons of tofu recipes...some spicy and some not. You can do silken tofu with a dash of soy sauce, chopped shallots, a dash of vinegar, and VERY LITTLE sesame seed oil. Tofu is good protein...but has more fat content than white chicken... just one thing I'd watch out for

    Fast Food Choices?

Low carbs are good (i guess)...but the cheeseburger has a whole heap of fat... i'd say stay away from hamburger meat... +1 on the small chili from wendy's or maybe a grilled chicken salad (minus most of leafy greens)

    My first NSV

that's so cool to hear. I'm actually going for ALL NSVs. scales are unreliable at best...and unlike many others, I don't rely on numbers to see my progress. For me, my NSVs will be decrease in pants size and ease of mobility. Since I can't get on a weight scale, I'll have to keep track of progress pictures. Congrats!!

    Virtual Lapband

Research or not... this is just snake oil nonsense.... similar to hypnosis for smoking cessation or 'willing' your cancer to go away... I've had lots of magic 'medicine' men try to cure my paralysis...
  12. Thanks to everyone! My surgery is less than 12 hours from now... starving from not eating all day... hehe I guess people have had to suffer a whole lot more than I did, since my pre-op diet is only 24 hours prior.

How much protein am I suppose to have in a day?

I'm having a little trouble with this.... 10% of 1,000 calories is 100 calories, not grams. If you figure 4 calories per gram of protein, the actual amount of protein is about 25 grams.
