My Wife's Cousin Just Died Because Complications With The Vsg
DogBone posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My wife's cousin just died because complications with the VSG (10:00 PM local time Brasil). She was 55 year old. She was sleeved 1.5month ago, we live in the third biggest city in the country, 7 million people. The guy that made the VSG is the same that made mine, he already made 500 of them. She had a leak a week later and she went to a surgery to fix it, a open one this time, after that she stayed 5 days in the ICU, got better and went to ta room, after two weeks she was still with an infection and difficult to breath. She was back to the ICU for the last two weeks, last 5 days breathing thought a tracheotomy. Today the machine was not enough so they send her to a lung surgery, but all they found was an infection, nothing to be done. She died 5 hours later. She leaves a 14year old boy. We know it could happen to any of us. I hope that she rest in peace. -
Did you checked you gallbladder after the VSG? If you developed stones, they can cause severe reflux.

I think She had a C-Section before. Yes she developed a pneumonia. Yes that happened in the 3rd city in Brazil (7 million people). The doctor was the one that made mine VSG (he already did 500 of them). The surgery is self-paid and cost 14.000usd down here, in the best hospital of the city. Thank you. -

Well she died today at 10PM (Brasil local time). So I guess it's the first death on the VSG reported in this forum. They opened her chest to see what they could do with her lungs. Nothing to be done it's all infected, they closed and she died 6 hour later. -

I will as soon something change, but she is like that for the last two weeks. They did the tracheostomy so they could get her out of the coma. But she woke in panic, her heart accelerated and her blood pressure increased so they putted her back in coma. -

Well my wife cousin is in ICU right now, I don't know if you want to put her in the list, she's not is this forum yet, I hope she can in the future. She had a leak, a second surgery , she is 1.5 month out and she is in the ICU on a induced coma for the last 2 weeks, she has lung infection and is breathing with the help of a machine via a tracheostomy. -
After 1.8years out I can eat a hole McChiken.

Complications With Sleeve
DogBone replied to betterthanbefore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know if I'm getting older or was the VSG with the grelin issue, or a lack of some kind of Vitamin, or even if I did not pay attention before but after the VSG I think my memory decreased. Or not? The fact is obesity is always more dangerous that the problems that the VSG will cause. My point is that the surgery is the great risk in this process and not everybody want to take that risk. -

This is a major surgery don't fool yourself. I'm 1 year and 8 months out and I got a gallstone because of the VSG and I don't want to go there again so I'm trying to avoid to loose my gallbladder with pills. My wife cousin made her VSG 1.5 month ago, she had a leak and went thought another surgery after a week, this time a open one. She got lung infection and she is in the ICU for the last two weeks, she is on a induced coma and breathing with a machine via a tracheotomy. This is the same guy that made my VSG, and he already did 500 of them. So this is a very particularly decision. My advice is to follow your heart. If I would do it again? Maybe not, I bet she whouldn't. -

I'm 6 months out, no problems here. No acid reflux anymore. I'm taking vitam D too but my levels were low before surgery, Now they have doubled so I think I'm in the right path. -
I took Pariet. But I think all PPI are similar in price.

But now I'm in track again only experiencing my first stall. So thanks everybody that supported me throut this little crises.

I'm 48days out, last week I had a fever (about 100.0F) went to my surgeon and he told me it must be a flu. In fact one day laterI had some light syntoms. I wet to the doctor last wensday and by sturday the fever was gone by itself. But on monday It was back, so on tuesday I call him again and he is out of the country. I talked to one of his assitent doctors and I went to the hospital and make some blood exams that showed no infection. I have no pain, nothing, a little nause now and then, but still able to eat, and the fever that keep coming back. Any Ideas?
-
At least it's much easier recover than a leak. I think that sometimes because we are so weak with the weight lost that desease attack. I'm felling much better today! But still does not know what was the cause of the fever. They are guessing a sinus fever (since I have an history with it). Did not had to take any tylenol for fever until now (8:00 PM). I think all info posted here is of great value for others. I will post here a folow up after I'm out of the antibiotical stuff.

Thanks Tiffy, It's really a relief. The CT scan Doctor was a student of my father in Medical school (My Father still works with RX with almost 80 years old, but he does not have the CT machine). So he was very careful and told me he looked very hard but there is nothing there. Still about the abcess recover. Was you alowed to eat?
-
Thanks! Fever today is 99.5 F without thermal medicine.
-
Great news everybody. I just came back from hospital where I made a CT scan with contrast. No leaks, no abcesses, nothing found. Fever is getting lower with the antibiotics, so I guess I have some kind of a flu. Tiffy by the way, what is the treatment for the abcess?
