    July 2011 Bandsters!

How can you be bad? I barely know the difference between gas pain and hunger pain. I doubt that I am getting in a few hundred calories a day. most coming from protein powder, but i still feel crappy. I am working, but my stomach is messed up with all the cramping and gass feelings. Its almost like I know what I should have been feeling all along with a hernia. Have things have you been eating, do they hurt your belly? Lisa
  2. I had my procedure on Thursday, as well, and I went back to work today. Maybe a half day would have been better, as that I am beat now. I don't know if my pains are gas pains and hunger pains together. I know that i have never had indegestion or heartburn before, but since the procedure, i am definately sore from something gassy!!! It is supposed to go away within the next few days. I have seen all of our other posters say that around day 5/6 it gives relief. I do hope so. Don't foget to keep up with your walking, and take your gasX strips. Take care, Lisa

    July 2011 Bandsters!

I think that I am still learning (and failing) how to recognize the difference between hunger and gas pains. I am not sure of what I feel, but I can be sure that I never had gas problems, or heartburn, or indigestion before. I am making up for it now. Oh, by the way, ended up having a hernia repair also. Lisa
  4. Twilled, Thanks for your thoughts, best wishes to you, too. I am 4 days post banding, feeling pretty good today. I have been sore over the past few days, but whats not to expect, right? Keep reviewing the postings on this forum, it will provide lots of information and support. Lisa

We have all been told that walking would help move the gas out. Lisa

    July 2011 Bandsters!

I had the procedure on Thursday 7/7, and I am going to work on Monday. I was going to a Def leppard concert tonight, but it got rescheduled til the end of the month. I may not be standing totally straight and walking a little slow, but I am heading forward. Lisa

    July 2011 Bandsters!

Peanut butter is not on my list anywhere until after a month.
  8. Thanks so much for your insight. It helps in seeing what is down the road for us 07/11ers!!! Lisa
  9. Hey Shauna, I wasn't as nervous as I was concerned that I may not be ready to give up the big Tbone or the dinners out at my favorite place Osaka Steakhouse with all that yummy rice. How on earth am I going to order food out from menus that do not allow grown people to order off the kids meal, you know! Are there any suggestions out there? Just make sure that when you come home, you don't do 5 loads of laundry and start cleaning the house (just to say I've done something) Not feeling the best today. My port location is sore. and I slept til 10am today. Just know that if we do our part, the band will do it's parts and we will be healthier for it in the long run, and we deserve that! Talk to you soon. Lisa
  10. Kim, Congratulations on your decision. There are so many proven good reasons to have this or another gastric procedure done to improve your health and quality of life. A lot of us on this posting have been looking for support and have gotten it. Take time to go back to page 1 and review all of conversations, it will be a real help. After we have our procedures done, we are flipping to the post-operation section in July, although some of us will be on both. So, welcome to the family and enjoy! Lisa
  11. Hey there, Dr. Nain did my surgery. During my stay at Potomac, I saw Dr. Nain three times, the Nurse Practitioner and Dr. Halmi stopped by to see how I was doing. Very nice, organized practice. I think I won't mind all the after care that us banders have to have. Lisa
  12. Hey everyone - back online - had the surgery yesterday and stayed over. Just got home and my first thought was how everyone else is doing. My belly is sore and yesterday, my throat bothered me. The practice that I went through - Bluepoint, couldn't have been more awesome and the hospital - Potomac even more so. Excellent expereince all around. Now, I am going to go back a couple pages on our banders pages and fill myself in on the rest of you all. Take care and good luck upcoming banders!!!! Lisa B
  13. dmhanaphy, A lot of us have to do liquid, protein diets. Some of us 1 week, some 2 or more. With the banding being done laproscopically, the liver has to be reduced to help getting around in there. that is why the liquid! Your process is incredible at only 5 weeks with the insurance company involved. There is an awful lot of information on this posting, so read on and enjoy. I am being banded on THURSDAY!!!! and daggone if I didn't go to Wegmans this evening and want to get a big steak.......but I didn't, just came home and drank my protein drink. Lisa B
  14. Hey Hodko, You can be down from 2 days to a week depending on your pain tolerance and pain medicine. Thye say the more wlaking the better for getting rid of the gas they pump into at time of surgery. the gas in itself is a cause of discomfort, so the more you walk it off, the better. I plan on going to a def leppard concert 2 days after my procedure and my doctor doesn't see anything wrong in that, so my plan is to have little to no discomfort.......but it is always sunny and 75 in my world, so I will make it work out regardless!!! Great job on the 36 down. Good luck, Lisa B
  15. Good luck, I am a go for Woodbridge (Potomac) on Thursday. Let us know how you did. Lisa B
  16. OK, Alygurl, how did it go? We have the same practice, although I am with Dr, Nain. I go into Woodbridge on Thursday, bright and early. Lisa B
  17. I think it may be that we just went through a "bbq" weekend, although I didn't partake, I AM HUNGRY TODAY!!!! Day 6 of liquid diet. I want to chew something - Surgery Thursday am. Lisa B
  18. Hey Shauna, Glad you got your date and it's still in July!!! I am on day 2 of pure liquid Protein. I am doing ok, my Optifast chocolate is pretty good. My chicken Soup for lunch is ok, too! HOWEVER,......I go to Lake Anna for a long holiday weekend with family and friends and we all love to play in the Water and eat. I am going to see if my doctor will be so kind as to let me nibble a couple of things over the weekend. I don't want to make a big deal out of myself by being the only person in this very large crowd that hasn't eaten anything all weekend. Most of these folks don't know that I am being banded. But I will do what I must to have this procedure go smoothly. THis is so exciting to see how many people are now associated with our little conversation. Oh, remember when you and I first started....so long ago...oh wait, you mean it has only been a few weeks!!!!! Crazy!!Lisa B
  19. Got got the email from my surgeon's office that they have all my test results in and I am ready to go!!!!! CRAP......am I ready to go? Why am I getting this feeling of dread? Could it be that I also started my official liquid diet today? I haven't been doing any "final" meals, but drinking protein drinks for breakfast and lunch in order to get ready for the real thing. Have a good day, Banders!!! Lisa B
  20. Hey Nancy, I actually asked that question - about travelling - at my first seminar - the lap band should be equated like a hip or knee replacement, it will show up on Xray, but not hit on the beeping scanner, is what i was told. I too thought of how embarrassing it would be to have someone think i had a ticking time bomb.....little do they know Lisa B
  21. Talk about great timing - just got information last night on my 25th high school reunion being planned for early October. As that I still look the same as I did in high school (just a little bigger, but not much) - Yes, apparently, I have always looked like a large 40 year old drag queen! 5'10, 200+, face by Mary Kay! - so I am not too terrified to see anyone, but I cannot wait to go in much smaller than what I was in school. That will be a treat. Lisa B
  22. Shauna, Thanks for keeping us all straight. Little did I know when I made that first posting oh so long ago, that it would end up with all this great information and wonderful support. I still haven't told too many people about my decision, not any particular reasons, just not a big "open" person. Lisa B
  23. Hey Colee85, It looks like we are going through the same practice. I am having my procedure with Dr Nain on the 7th. You will find loads of information in our forum here. Good Luck and I will talk to you soon. Lisa
  24. Shauna, I don't like that you don't have a specific date!!! What happens if you fall into August????? What will I do? By the way, Have you heard of anyone staying the night at the hospital or does everyone think that they will go home same day? I thought that I would be an outpatient, but have started thinking of staying overnight. My procedure is on a Thursday and I have tickets to a Def Leppard concert on Saturday night, I plan on going!!!! Lisa
  25. Hey Schmidty42, I have lost 20 lbs or more several times over and gained it all back plus more. While it is a very personal decision to make, you have to make it for yourself not your brothers. As you have said, this is a tool to help the weight stay off. we can all loose it, however, as we age, it is harder to keep taking the weight off, but it is very difficult for thosed who have always had a weight problem to keep it off. It is very clear that your brothers love you if they worry about making this big, major decision. I am a "self-pay" and have spent a lot of money in the past on one weight loss program or another. If you have not spent and struggled with weight loss for very many years, it may be easy to try for 6 months to do it on your own. It seems like most of us have spent years and thousands on weight loss. Good luck on your decision. Lisa
