  1. So I survived the "attack"!!!! She started when someone handed her a wine cooler..."oh no, I can't have carbonation, you know, (in a whisper) because of the bypass"...sigh....I excused myself and went outside. A little while later she "hit me" again....."Oh those chips look so good, wish I could enjoy them like you do".....B*%ch!!! I smiled said, "yes they are tasty" got up and went inside....It was almost comical....I have to thank you all 'cause all I could think about was coming back here and letting you know how it went! Thanks for the support!!!!
  2. "how lovely, how great....how lovely, how great....how lovely, how great....." I am practicing right now! LOL!!!

    When did you know...

I have always been a big girl. But that had never stopped me. I did everyting I wanted, went everywhere, lived a full life, until about a year ago. I put on about 30 more pounds and slowed way down. We went on vacation to the Outer Banks and there is a huge sand dune called "Jockey Ridge", I was intimidated, but I climbed it, it took every ounce of my being to get to the top of that sand dune while folks twice my age and half my age were sprinting up the hill. Once I got to the top, I could go no further, so fo the first time in my life my weight kept me from doing what I wanted to do. And that was it. I am tired of living in this body. I am tired of doing Weight Watchers and doing so well for a few months then crashing and burning and putting all the weight back on and them some. Now is the time before I get too bad. I am a 300+ pound woman with no comorbidities and if I wait too long that will change. That is why I am doing this!

    My poor hubby......

Thanks! I just got back and had a great visit. He said I was a perfect candidate for the sleeve! I have some more hoops to jump through, but so far so good!

    Food Funeral

I am pre op also and was thinking about this same subject....I was thinking about making an entire Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings. And going to Olive Garden for one more round of breadsticks, and then to Cold Stone for my "gotta have it" size of chocolate ice cream with almonds and white chocolate chips and then.....and then I stopped. I took a deep breath and realized that the reason I want a food funeral , or in my case a raucous wake, was because of all the feelings I was going to grapple with when I was sleeved. Food is food, it is not a celebration, or a friend or a companion. It is just food. I have a lot of emotional things to work through after I am sleeved and I don't need a food funeral to make me feel more out of control. My mantra during this journey will be..."it's just food, it has no power!"
  8. I am pre-op, but have a question for those that are sleeved. Are you obsessed with the scale? Is it emotionally possible to stay off and just weigh in at the doctors? Or do you weigh yourself every day, once a week, once a month? Every 10 minutes (LOL!)? I can see myself getting so wrapped up in the small ups and downs and the stalls that I would go into a tailspin. But if I literally toss the scales will I go crazy not knowing my progress? How do you handle it? I would like to think that I am calm cool and collected enough to weigh in once a week, same time every week, but I know myself and the instant gratification part of me will want to keep jumping on that darn scale!!!! Thoughts?

    A first for me

Wow, a week of geneology research sounds fascinating! Have fun with that! I know that there are a ton of available places to pick up healthy food! Just refill your cooler with ice and pick up some fresh food for the trip back! Have fun and good luck with your research!

    Vitamin Shoppe Helpful Information

Why did you feel GNC was total joke? They were extemely helpful and had a ton of information for me. My son is a wrestler and we have been going to GNC for years and they have been nothing but kind, sorry you had a bad experience with them!

    Couch Potato to 5K

Couch Potato to 5K???? I will have to google that! My top goal with my sleeve is to RUN! I want to run, I haven't run in 20 years!!! That program sounds awesome! I am still in the pre-op stage, so I will be a few months behind you in your goal to run a 5K, but that panting you hear is me running behind you trying to catch up! Good luck with this and keep us posted!!!!

    75 pounds!

Congratulations! And LOL at your hubby cutting up your bra! Sounds like something my hubby would do!!! I understand about wanting that "hit the roof reaction" I am really looking forward to that and I would be disappointed if I didn't get it, but you know how far you have come! Keep up the good work!!!!!
  14. The size of the bougie, stalling, losing lots of weight, not losing any, psych evals, bloodwork, waiting for appointments, pre op diets, insurance approval....every has such different experiences! There seems to be no common ground! It's as if every surgeon has different rules, or maybe it's the insurance companies. Are there any hard and fast rules? It is overwhelming!!! I think I am on overload.
  15. Thanks! I had my psych eval, visit with PCP and bloodwork results, and got my appointment with the surgeon all in 24 hours! What a whirlwind! But I love the advice! I will take it one step at a time, and cross each thing off my list (and I am a HUGE list maker!) Thanks for the advice!!!!!
  16. I am at the beginning of my journey, my paperwork has been submitted, had bloodwork, and tomorrow is my psych evaluation. I met with my PCP today and got my bloodwork results. No diabetes, no thyroid problems, only slightly elevated cholesterol. I got weighed - ugh- and we talked.....alot. He was enthusiatic and supportive and said I was an excellent candidate, and he would do everything in his power to make sure I didn't have any insurance problems! What a great doctor visit! I was sure that I would have some "sugar" problems! Thanks everyone for all the information here, I was well armed with information and he was impressed with how ready I was! So, now, onward and upward....to better things!
