    Glutton for punishment

LOL!!! I did the exact same thing! I was making all kinds of fancy meals and baked goods, using spices and flavorings that I had never worked with and I didn't eat a bite! I became obsessed with Ina Garten and tried about 5 of her recipes! The hubby and kids loved it! It must fufill something in our psyche while we sip our protein shakes!!! Hang in there! And know that soon enough you will be able to taste the things you make!!!!

    What made you do it?

I had never let my weight keep me from what I wanted to do, with a few exceptions (roller coasters, plane seats) nothing stopped me. I was healthy, no meds, no comorbidities, just an abundant amount of weight, over 300 pounds. This spring we went on vacation to the Outerbanks of NC. Awesome destination and, if you are a lighthose fanatic, as I am, it has the "holy grail" of lighthouses, Hatteras. I have prided myself that I can walk up those circular lighthouse stairs no matter how tall the lighthouse, not this time. I couldn't do it, I was too big, it was too tall, and I thought I was going to die. For the first time my weight got in the way of doing something I wanted to do. And then I saw the pictures that were taken on that trip. I was huge. I had been lying to myself. I was too big and something needed to be done. And the final straw was when I brought up WLS to my PCP and he was very positive about me having it and he said "I have very few 60 year old patients your size and I have NO 70 year old patients your size. Get the weight off or you will die an early death." That was enough for me! Now I am am one month out, 42 pounds lighter and I will NEVER see 300 on my scale again!!!!!

    NSV....in the Mail today.

Awesome! I got a Weight Watchers ad in the mail today!!!! LOL!!!! Guess I'm never going back there!!!!!
  4. The worst case of head hunger for me was when my husband was watching a food network show about fried chicken! It was excruciating!!! LOL!!! I asked hime to turn it off!!! I have considered going to counseling to deal with the emotional side of eating. It is a challenge for me to listen to the hunger, ask myself "okay what is really going on" and then deal with those emotions. Am I bored, angry, anxious? Did I fight with the hubby or have words with the teenager? (and let me tell you, the teenagers will drive me to food faster than anything!!! LOL!) I think once I figure out and deal with the head hunger this sleeve will be ultimately successful!!! Good luck on your journey!

**NEWSFLASH** BCBS OF WNY NOW COVERS VSG!

I was sleeved August 2nd and used BCBS of WNY. No problems. It took about 2 months from beginning of paperwork to surgery. Good luck!!!
  6. Thank you SO MUCH for this post! I have such a burning pain that I called the doctor and she said it was normal, but I couldn't figure out how this was normal!!!! It is keeping me from more strenuous exercise. I am glad to hear that there is an end in sight!
  7. Here's a link. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/10081-the-official-what-you-will-need-for-your-surgery-thread/ Good luck!!!!
  8. I am 2 weeks out, physically I feel okay (a little pain at incisions, but that is it) but emotionally I am on edge. I used to spend my nights watching TV with my laptop on my lap and munching on junk food, now that isn't cutting it for me. I want to go-go-go, but not sure where to go or what to do! I guess I need to get a hobby or start a new project but am clueless as to where to start! And I would have to do it alone because hubby works so much overtime that he comes home and crashes and has no energy to do anything. I am sure this is an adjustment period and I will get through it, but it is a byproduct I wasn't expecting!
  9. I am 2 weeks out today and I have an occasional burning sensation below my largest incision. Glad to hear I am not the only one. I just assume that that was the incision that took the most abuse and needs the most TLC! Can't wait for these silly incisions to heal!!!!
  10. I was scheduled so quickly I didn't have a chance to have a food funeral. It was all for the best. I think I would have felt guilty, I guess I feel...um...virtuous, for the lack of a better word. I did the right thing and proved that food wasn't as important as getting healthy. I think you made the right decision, have faith!!!!

How long were you on an acid reducer?

My doc has given me a prescription for omeprazole for an entire year. I am only a few days out, but it says take one every day until 8/3/12! That's a long time!

    PRE OP DIET :)

I just finished with my 14th and final day of my all liquid pre op diet. It is managable. At times frustrating (especially when making dinner for the husband and teenagers!) but it really is something that can be done. Hang in there, it is worth it!
  13. Thank you! I thought it was my computer!

  16. I am scheduled for 10:30, I have to be at the hospital at 7:30. They pushed it back by a half an hour. I am sure they did that just to make me more crazy! LOL! I just took my milk of magnesia (YUCK!) and all I can do is Clear liquids then nothing at all after midnight. I am packed and ready to go. I think I will go to bed early, it will make the morning come faster! LOL!!!! As I used to say to the boys when they were little.."one more sleep!" Wish me luck!!!!!

    Question

I was specifically told NOT to call the office. It was in one of the papers I had to sign. They said calls were an interruption and slowed down their ability to get their work done. It was maddeneing. They were fairly good at communicating, but I was sorely tempted to call many times.

I am scheduled for Tuesday also! We will be taking our post surgery walks together! Good luck to everyone! See you on the other side!
  21. We are going to a birthday party at my sister-in-laws today. I told her about the surgery and let her know that I won't be eating anything at the party because I was on an all liquid diet and she freaked. "You HAVE to eat something! You can't not eat anything that is ridiculous, your doctor is crazy! I will make you a salad and have some fruit for you!" I politely told her not to do that because I could not eat, and I would not eat. She replied, "Well just in case, I am going to grill some chicken breasts for you. No one should go without food for 14 days! That is unheard of!" *SIGH* It's going to be an interesting party!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. I am on my 11th day of my all liquid diet. I am doing okay, with a few moments of weakness, I have been muddling through. Today I have been watching food network....especially Ina Garten...then I went into the kitchen and concocted this wild meal for my family, cooking stirring, blending....I never am too creative in the kitchen, I usually have about the same 8-9 different meals that I always make....so now that I can't taste it or eat it I am being "chef boyardee"!!!!! I would love to know what made me do that! Too funny!
  23. Me too...I swallow without breathing through my nose and always follow it with a crystal light chaser! Cannot wait to have other protein options! Surgery in 4 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!
