    New from Delaware

Hi! I live in Newark. I went to my first seminar in late January. I had planned to have my surgery sooner, but I needed to have my surgery at a "Center of Excellence". I was banded on 6/27/11. The date will depend on your insurance company requirements, and the type/number of doctors you need to see for surgery clearance. Welcome to the journey.
  2. Thanks for adding me as a friend. Welcome to the website.

    Not Sure

You have come to the right place! You can find so much good information here. There are friends and lots of support. Share if you like, and ask questions if you need to. Welcome. I will be 50 in September, and I had the procedure on 6/27/11. Within 2 weeks I recovered, and was already feeling the benefits of the surgery. Good Luck.
  6. My doctor required me to stay overnight after my lap band surgery. He did not request pre-certification from my health insurance company. The company approved a number of after surgery monitoring hours, but not the overnight stay. Does the doctor's office accept payment received as payment in full, or will they ask me to pay the difference? Insurance is Fed Employees Blue Cross.
  7. I had surgery 3 weeks ago. We were given information about medical jewelry. Is it necessary? Can not having it cause an EMT or Doctor to harm you unnecessarily?
  8. Thanks! I wish I had done it sooner as well. All the good thoughts really help.

    An Example For My Family

Along with the health issues I had and wanting to look better, I also had the surgery as an example to by daughter. She is 22 years old and seriously overweight. I am worried about her future and her health. Since I was banded, I cook healthier foods (some even lap band recipes), that my family enjoys. I do not purchase sodas or any other "bad" foods. Everyone can eat what I prepare, or go out for anything else they wish to eat. One great thing about the surgery is I am rarely hungry. If I have a taste for something that is not "good", I taste it and move on. I don't think my daughter will have the surgery, but now I don't think she'll need to. Both she and my husband are exercising and making much better food choices. Our entire family is healthier and looking better, and for that, I am truly grateful.

She's an only child, and I am worried about her future and her health. Since I was banded, I cook healthier foods, (some even lap band recipes), that my family enjoys. I do not purchase sodas or any other "bad" foods. Everyone can eat what I prepare, or go out for anything else they wish to eat. One great thing about the surgery is I am rarely hungry. If I have a taste for something that is not "good", I can just taste it, and move on. I don't think my daughter will have the surgery, but now I don't think she'll need to. Both she and my husband are exercising and making such better food choices. Our entire family is healthier and looking better, and for that I am truly happy.
  11. If you decide to pursue getting the lap band, you will meet with a counselor along the way. Please discuss your concerns with him or her.
  12. Dreaming of cheetos, LOL. I dreamed about food too...just can't remember what.
  13. Hi, I'm in DE, but moved here from NJ. I lived in Trenton and Mount Holly. I was banded on 6/27/11. Love and am re-posting the thoughts on family.

  14. In my opinion, this person is NOT your friend. This goes hand in hand with the thread on jealousy from SumthinsGottaGive. Everyone who pretends to be your friend is not. The sooner you realize this, the better off you'll be. You postponed doing something for your health and happiness because of the actions/opinions of someone else. "People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. When you figure out which one it is, you will know what to do for each person."

    Jealousy

    Great topic!
  16. I like the narrow stainless steel dog tag you bought. Another company is Lauren's Hope Medical ID Bracelets. They have bracelets and watches. www.LaurensHope.com.
  17. I drink MML. I was just banded 3 weeks ago. I have two shakes a day and one meal. It's perfect.
  18. I had the lap band procedure with hernia repair two weeks ago. The follow-up appointment with my doctor is tomorrow. My job considers the hernia repair a complication, and will allow extra time off work. What's the best was to communicate to my doctor that I am not ready to return to work. I don't know him that well, and have never been in this situation before.

    Is your surgery Wednesday?

  20. Hi, I used to work in Marlton, and live in Mount Holly. I live in DE now, and work in PA. I was banded on 6/27/11. Welcome. Keep in touch.
  21. Success! Thank you again.
  22. I'm glad you're ok, I know you had a problem. We are at the same stage. I just find it easy to have two shakes to meet my protein/liquid needs, and eat once a day. I had food Friday for the first time. My doc f/u is tomorrow. Take care. TTYL
