I like the idea about the medic alert necklace or bracelet.
-
That is terrible. Good luck and hope everything "comes out ok". It would really suck if they had to do surgery to remove it.

Glad to hear everything went well for you. Hopefully you will feel better tomorrow. Keep me posted. Since I'm using the same doctor, I'm curious...LOL His office staff has been wonderful. -

How did your kids handle the change(s) in you?
Texasmom65 replied to treequeen's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This is a great thread, I was wondering the same thing. I have 3 kids, ages 27, 25 and 7 . I've told my daughter who is 25, but haven't told my oldest son yet. My youngest overheard me talking about the surgery on the phone and asked me about it. I just told him Mommy was going to have surgery on her tummy to help her lose weight. I wasn't really prepared at the moment to answer him. I wish I had said so much to him. He will be gone the month of July to his Dad's so I will only see him on every other weekend. I know it will be a change for him. I was wondering what questions he may ask. I don't want to keep it from him or lie, but not sure how much to really tell him. -

The Magic Bullet is Awesome
Texasmom65 replied to notsochubbybritneyspears's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you have to drink the Optifast? Can you try something different that might be more filling? I plan on drinking Special K Protein drinks and bars. Not sure what I will use after surgery, becasue I know I will need more protein then. -
Questions you wish you had asked?
Texasmom65 replied to carrierae's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What size bougie do you use? How long will I be off from work? How many patients have you sleeved? How many have had leaks? How many have died? -
The Magic Bullet is Awesome
Texasmom65 replied to notsochubbybritneyspears's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hahaha sex toy. I've been thinking about getting the Magic bullet (blender). Do you like it much better than a normal blender? Also, I can understand how you feel about the liquid diet. Luckily my 2 week pre op diet is only two meals of Protein drinks or bars. Then I get to eat one meal a day. (low fat, low carb meal). but I'm not to worried about it. I think the one thing that has helped me is being on Weight watchers since March. I've totally changed the way I eat. Making better food choices and finding other things low cal./low fat that satisfy my hunger. If I'm really wanting something to eat or something sweet, I turn to greek yogurt with honey. My fav. I don't feel so deprived from eating what use to be 'normal" food for me, like pizza, hamburgers, chinese and so on. Sure i might have that once or twice a month, but I may go 2 weeks not eating any fast food or junk. But when I do eat it, its only one meal and much smaller than I use to eat. I think learning how to eat again is the hardest part. It's a mind game. One game I don't want to lose. Good luck with your pre op diet. Hope it gets easier for you. -
Congrats. I have mine on the 11th. :-)

Love your post. Sounds like you have a handle on this. Good luck reaching that baby weight.

Keeping reasons for surgery from supervisor/co-workers
Texasmom65 replied to OilSooner's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad you started this thread. I'm not in the same situation as you, but for some reason I'm having a problem with, "do I tell my co workers or not". I've been here for 13 years, a large physicains office/group. I've told my boss/friend and two other supervisors that I'm close too. And they know I haven't told anyone else. I'm pretty much an open book so not sure why I'm having this feeling of should I or shouldn't I. I've known these ladies for years. I don't think anyone would be negative at all. So that is why its strange to me. Anyone else feel like this? I'm sure I will break down and tell them, but will it be before the surgery or after? LOL I just want to understand why I'm feeling this way. Does that makes sense? -

LOL you are so funny. I wish my DH would join me in this. He is about 295 lbs and diabetic. He doesn't have alot to lose, he is 6'4". But maybe after he see's how I do, he will think more about it. Just be a good patient for your wife. LOL -
Praying for you. I can't wait to hear how your doing. You have the same feelings as I do right now. I'm so scared about having most of my stomach removed, but I know I need to do this. I want to do this. Hugs to you and your family.

I think what your feeling is normal. I even told my husband last night the two places I wanted to eat before surgery. I've been doing Weight Watchers since March, so there are many places I avoid, such as Italian and fried foods. So I want Italian and seafood. I've done very well controling my intake of food and being on WW has helped me to eat the right foods. It's ok to have that bread or Pasta, just not that often. So I think having it once in the past 3 months will be ok. Once that is done, I will have the 2 week preop diet and it starts when we are on vacation. But I'm ok with that. I'm going to be sitting ont he beach soaking up the sun and spending time with my family. I'm not gonna be there for the food. Good luck with our outings. Just don't over do it if possible. But I think your smart doing the preop for 3 weeks to better prepare yourself.

I guess like some say its different for everyone. Plus I'm sure some people have a higher pain tolerance than others. I think my pain tolerance is pretty high. I've had 3 c- sections, appendex, tonsils, gallbladder and huge ovarian cyst (removed ovary, the size of a football during my last pregnancy). I will say having tonsils out at 34 almost killed me. But as far pain in the tummy area the ovarian cyst removal was the wrost. So I'm hoping this will not be much pain. Or at least tolerable. I never had the gas pains after my gallblader surgery like alot of people told me about. I was up walking as soon as I could. I think moving around is the best for any surgery. It helps work out the soreness. Anyway, that is my plan. Great question, I'm glad you asked it.

Hi everyone. I'm 46, will be married for 4 yrs to my wonderful hubby on July 7th. I will have my sleeve done on July 11th. I have 3 children, 26,25 and 7. I also have 4 grandchildren. I'm so excited to finally put the fat me to rest. I want the next half of my life to be healthier and thinner. It's hard to keep up with a 7 yr old at 46 and you add fat to the mix, its really hard. LOL Happy to meet everyone.

Have you ever tried liquid Stevia? I have several different flavors I use. I use the lemon and orange the most for my water. Just a dropper full and my water taste great. You can get it online or I've seen it at Whole Foods. I also have the rootbeer and vanilla cream too. I'm thinking of trying the Chocolate raspberry on a vanilla protein shake to see how it will taste.
