Growing up I was always pretty into (read: obsessed with) food. My mom was super petite, but incredibly neurotic about putting on even an ounce of weight. The second I started to get a tiny bit chubby around the midsection, she went into preventative measure overdrive. Around 9 years old, I knew the calorie count of nearly every pre-packaged food item in production, and knew exactly how many hours of exercise it would take me to burn off whatever I chose to put in my mouth. Although she really was well-intentioned, I think this had a lot to do with my unhealthy relationship with food.
Fastforward 8 or so years, and my tiny pouch of baby chub had grown into an extra 100 lbs of pure fat... 3 more years after that I was looking at a pretty appalling 310 lbs on my 5'6" frame. At 20 years old, morbidly obese is not a fun category to rest in. My parents, being the amazing people that they are, dipped into their retirement account and paid for my entire surgery out of pocket. I had my surgery about 20 days after my 21st birthday, and it was the best gift anyone could have ever given me.
The initial 50 lbs fell straight off within a month and a half. After that, the weightloss slowed to a pretty steady loss of about 10 lbs a month. I am now 25 years old, and weigh 167 lbs.
I feel absolutely amazing having lost almost 150 lbs. I am very active; I run and hike in my free time and go to the gym daily. I'd still like to lose another 25 lbs or so, but I am very proud of how far I've come.
