Buying Clothes While Loosing Weight?
DENISE replied to MommyTawnie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Clearance racks for sizes smaller then you are now help. I have gotten a lot of great clothes from www.freecycle.com and as I loose more weight, I will give my clothes to homeless and back up to freecycle. Also, ask your friends....you would not believe how many of our friends are ready to go through their closets at this time of year...make it a party! -
Broke the stall (slowly)
DENISE replied to PatrickG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hurray for you!!!!! I am currently at 6 weeks post op and am on a 2 week stall to onderland, but I know any day my body is going to wake up as well! -
Ok friends.. in need of some support, encouragement, and pep talk here! I am 6 weeks and 2 day post op and have lost 28 lbs, with most of the loss being in the first month . I have already hit about 3 stalls and am getting soo frustrated as onerland has been 1-2 lbs away for the last week or 2! I know that I have not been as deligent on my water consumption as I previously have( changing that tonight) ,but any suggestions or comments before I throw the scale out the window and feel like I am failing somehow!? Also it seems as if my new tummy has already grown comfortable and I am getting hungrier and seem to be able to eat most foods and meat now, with the exception of cheese, which SCARES THE DAYLIGHTS OUT OF ME! Does it seem to early to you? When should I start on eating salads, as I am missing those sooo much right now? Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences!

This question is for sleevers that was 230 to 240 pre-sleeve
DENISE replied to Weightbgone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery was on 1/24/11 and I weighed 228. Today is 6 weeks and 2days and I am at 200 even. 28lbs lost...and counting! -
I had Heparin shots while I was in the hospital, for 3 days, but none after that. Did you have preexisting heart, blood, or cholestrol problems? If so, that may explain why, or just ask him. Some doctors just want to take extra precautions for blood clots.

NOT A ONE!!!!!!!!! I am only 2 weeks postop, but in those 2 weeks I am down 17 lbs. Who would regret that? Only regret that it took me so long to do it!

Diet Post op questions
DENISE replied to sarahh1828's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Which kaiser are you having it done at? I just had mine on 1/24/11 in South San Francisco and once I left the hospital I was on soft foods for 2 weeks until my follow up appointment and then moved to phase 3... pureed and soft moist meats. I would question this as I would think that all Kaisers should have the same protocal. -
Well as of January 24, 2011, I have been sleeved! I had my surgery performed by Dr. David Le of South San Francisco Kaiser Bariatrics and am very pleased with the outcome. I would like to applaud everyone that created and runs this site as well as all the members. Months of research didn't compare to the wealth of information obtained by all of you, so thank you all! So far it has gone EXTREMELY well! I am so thankful for the member who posted about gas pains feeling like a heart attack. If I had not read your post about how bad the gas pains can be. I would of been SURE I was having a heart attack! So, after surgery I was quite nauceous, but with many injections of different anti nausea meds,I came out on top. I did have a hydromordone drip which was wonderful for any pain managemnet, but found that I really didn't have much pain, just gas pain. So every hour my little butt got out of bed and walked the halls for about 15 minutes to help the gas to come out or absorb. It never really came out, so I just keep walking. After having an allergic reaction to the hydromordone, they switched me to morphine, and I could tell that it wasn't as strong as the previous medication, but it helped to manage some of the gas pains. I did have some trouble trying to eat , my new little stomach does not like cold foods and it hurt trying to eat a bite of jello, so I mostly had warm chicken broth. I would have to say that for me, that has been the worst part of this journey so far, learning how with every drink I am putting air into my stomach so with every drink I have to focus on burping. As of today I have showered and shaved (ahh) and have not needed any pain medications! I have been able to eat applesauce without any pain in my tummy, but still have to concentrate on burping! I do find it diffult, if not short of a miracle, to get 64 ounces of water into my body as well as any protein shakes of meals. That seems to be the challenge so far for me. All in all, all is well and I am sooo glad I decided to have it done! Day 3 and down 10 lbs already!

We are sleeve sisters! I am felling all the same so it seems we are right on track!

I was sleeved on the 24th and what helped me was not having anything cold, that hurted my tummy. warm chicken broth worked really well for me. Hope you feel better.

pro's / con's to being honest about having surgery
DENISE replied to newmefeb8's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally and completely have to agree with you!!!!!!! I will not let obesity shame me anymore! I have told EVERYONE and have explained the procedure because a lot of people dont even know that there is a difference. Everyone has seen my struggles and since I have such a positive approach on this topic, I haven't received any negativity. I have no room or time in my life for that anyways! Honesty is the best policy because ALL secrets come out of the closet and then where does that leave your the integrity at ? All in all it's a personal matter, but secrecy just promotes the taboo and prejudice of WLS! -
Where to begin.....After being thin my whole life,1 pregnancy at 20 (lots of complications as well as quit smoking) and I spent most of my 20's over 200lbs. Pregnancy #2 at 30 (which was great and no weight gain on top of what I already had)and now I am into my late 30's and really didn't want to wait for health problems to arise from being obese any longer. Diabetes and heart problems are VERY prominent in my family history. After many years and countless hours in the gym with and without personal trainers, injuries have always held me back from achieving my goal weight. The RnY was out of the question for me, due to the malabsorbtion issue and I know how important vitamins play a role in our bodies. I know a lot of people who have had RnY done, and with great results, but not for me! Then one day in Sept 2010 my husband came home with news about a WLS that 2 of our clients had successfully had, that didn't involve rerouting or malabsorbtion. The VSG was introduced to me and I feverishly researched it! I had my first orientation classes in Oct with Kaiser South San Francisco as well as my appt with a surgeon. I decided this was for me! So in November I had an appointment with my surgeon who was going to set me up for surgery Dec 3, 2010. Talk about fast!!! I decide to wait until January because not only is Dec 3 my youngest daughters' birthday, but we had a huge vacation schedule for 2 weeks in Florida over Christmas vacation and I wanted to be able to enjoy every minute of it with my children, as this was their first visit to Florida. I wish you could of seen the look on my Doctors' face when I told him that December wasn't going to work for me so lets shoot for January (most people want sooner not later). So January 24, 2010 is my surgery date! I am so excited to be starting this new chapter in my life, and excited to know that my health is going to be here to stay ( God willing), but of course as the date gets closer, other emotions are on the rise. I want to thank all of those before me for all the information that you have posted so that people can make informed decisions about their health. By the way, I have told EVERYONE that is in and who enters my life, about my WLS! I refuse to hide behind the shame of obesity any longer!!! ALL of my friends and family support my decision, as most have seen first hand my struggles and blood sweat and tears in the gym. God Bless!
