Hi Nessa its not too late to go back to school to be a nurse. I'm 38 (39 in April) I started late myself and am taking it one semester at a time (1-2 classes a semester), so I can be here for my girls my top priority. Good luck!

I'm 29 from New York City. My name Nycky. I am a single mom with an 8 year old daughter. I have two dogs. I am the youngest of three and the only girl. My family migrated from the Philippines when I was an infant and I spent most of my life in NYC. My parents and two older brothers each bought the houses next door to me, so I have so much family support. I spend most of my free time invested in my daughter's school, church, and extracurricular life. I'm a Girl Scouts leader, assistant track coach, and coordinator of various church activities. After investing many years in healthcare services, I decided to work closer to home to be with my daughter and now work in a church and a security firm and dabble in video production.

I'm Kathryn, originally from Chicago but live in Dallas, divorced (really never married, long story), 2 boys. I don't have time to think about what I enjoy or like to do because between work and raising my boys and taking care of my home, those are my hobbies Glad you are here and welcome. We are here when you need us. I am on here daily so always available. I will be sleeved March 8th!

Had surgery two weeks ago and am focused on prayer and almsgiving during Lent as I am still technically FASTING! Ha ha! Only one more week of full liquid diet, then start soft foods. Since some of the best Protein is fish/seafood, I will still technically be fasting long after lent is over!
    All the best!

Well, it does sound like you have comorbidities, but don't go to the doc for them. Your knee sounds to me like an issue for you. I am 35 BMI and with my back problems and osteoarthritis I have no problems having this surgery. I bounce around at times. I've been close to 40 and I know if I let this go any longer I will be over it. Each person is individual, but you aren't the only person with a BMI on here that is lower than 40.

Unless a plastic surgeon is doing your op, I'd say no.
You should wait to have Lipo till you're well post op IMO. what if you lipo your butt and it shrinks nicely but your stomach stays round and you go back under again later vs waiting till after to see that your butt is pretty shapely but your stomach needs the lipo.

I was sleeved on the 5th. For postop I was on Clear Liquids until my first post op visit the following week. During that time I sipped my liquids using a 1oz medicine cup. I had to keep track and maintain 6 1oz cups per hour. This was easy. After my post op visit I am now on full liquids. Creamed Soups (strained) broths, sugar free Jello and sugar free pudding and 1-2 Protein shakes/day. Next week I will start puréed. I think if you use the med cups to prevent you from gulping too much at once. This might be easier. Good luck to you!

SSKay, 4 weeks post-op I was only able to eat 2 chicken wings and I had graduated beyond soft foods, but everyone is different. If you are eating enough to throw-up you might be eating too much or too fast.

DrmBig4Evr reacted to Yukon Kara in Booking my body lift with Dr. Katzen!
I just had my first consult (via phone) with Dr. Katzen in California to start the process of having a lower body lift!
I had my sleeve surgery in Oct of 2011 and am down 125lbs now. I weight 194lbs and would like to get down another 25 before my body lift. I am planning for a November surgery date.
This will be difficult to coordinate because I will have so much travel to get there. I live in a remote community in the Yukon (next door to Alaska). Already I am dreading the trip home after the surgery because I am sure I am going to be incredibly uncomfortable! But I am pretty sure this will all be worth it!
Anyone else out there have surgery with Dr. Katzen? I would love to hear from you!

I have no idea whether I'm following proper protocol....but I'm posting an intro of myself! I live in Arizona and I stumbled upon verticalsleevetalk.com on the internet! I had VSG on December 18, 2012 in Scottsdale, AZ. Doing really well. I'm down just under 40 lbs. No problems at all and good healing. Just looking for others who are taking this path!!

I am 13 days out, 35lbs down and cleared for a normal diet with lots of chewing. Besides restriction there is no change in my food tolerances. I have another 120 pounds to my ultimate goal and wanted to know if any vets have some tips for success. I don't want to waste this gift I have been given.
My main goals right now are 60g Protein and 64oz fluids. I wasn't given any special diet to follow other than to eat high protein. Right now I am walking about a mile 4-5 times a week and plan to up that to daily. Slowly adding distance. My dr said I won't be cleared for working out until 4-6 weeks.
    Thank you in advance

I am 6 days out, down 11.4 lbs., and feeling better than I have in years. Knock on wood, I have had no complications except some Constipation until I stopped my pain killers. I am able to get down a huge variety of liquid foods, just not more than a couple of ounces at a time. I am so happy; this is the best decision I eve made. 11 down, 74 to go!

So I will be sleeved tomorrow morning at 8:45. I'm incredibly nervous, surgery is always a bit scary. I just had an emergency c-section where the anesthesiologist really messed up, so I'm a little wary. Can any one give me tips or tricks on how to make these next few days bearable. Just reassure me im doing the right thing. See you on the skinny side!

1 month out today from under the knife! Overall very happy with month 1 - 35lbs down post op. Had dreamed it would come off quicker, but given I lost 40 preop a slowdown was a bit expect. So nice to be down 75 from Oct 7, 2012 and 58 since first doc consult Nov 15.
Did my diet advancement (my surgery center is very conservative but great reputation for minimal complications). No vomiting and only discomfort was eating too fast.
Getting 60 - 90 g Protein a day, but was averaging under 600 cals. Burning 700 a day swimming so I know I need to up to between 900 and 1100 but I dont know how as it seems I am already just eating or drinking all the time.
Thank you all for help along the way!!
    Off to goal 2!

LOL, what goes around, comes around! That's good, but I suggest you write down specific places and times you have experienced this, just in case you need it for the future. Any complaint must be in writing and also state your fear of retaliation. Hopefully she floats away and won't be a problem so you won't need that documentation, but you never know!

That is AWESOME that you stood up for yourself. I was afraid people were going to be judging me when I went to the seminar...looking at me and thinking I'm not "that" big. I also feel like people are thinking the same thing when I'm in the bariatric office for my appointments. Then one day, I finally said to myself "I don't care what they think...I'm doing something about this NOW." I already feel uncomfortable at 270, I can't imagine being any bigger. Going back to work after surgery will be a challenge...with all of the questions and whispering...but, I'm going to be looking and feeling fabulous...I won't let them get me down!

For me, it's a private decision, and I only told a handful of people I thought would be supportive. They all have been, so I haven't run into any negativity.

Yes...like i said earlier, I have heard you are not that big, 3 out of 4 times with a BMI of 35. I did not tell family or work. My medical history is no more their business than theirs is mine. Do I have the right to ask if they have ever been treated for an STD? Hemorroids? Plagued by yeast infections? NO! That would be extremely intrusive and tacky. At one of the first meetings I attended a very, very large woman said to her husband (loud enough for me to hear) "I don't know WHAT she thinks SHE is doing here?! Like all of us, my decision did not come easily and took me years to get to. Her snotty, rude comments were not tolerable. I looked her dead and the eye, smiled and said softly (although I wanted to yell), "I don't think that is very fair since I am not asking you why it took you so long to come here." She never even glanced in my direction again. Wise choice an her behalf. I was completely supportive of her choice, how dare she question mine. Stick to your guns and stick up for yourself. It is not their reflection you have to look at in the mirror. I explain my weight loss with some truth. I tell people I am staying under or around 1000 calories a day. Absolutley true. I am walking daily - again, absolutley true. When asked what my secret is? I tell them don't put it in your mouth. There is only one way in for calories to turn to fat. Chin up, you are going to love the way you feel and look. I still have a way to go but hope to be close by summer.
