I was banded on May 23, 2011. Just had my 3 month check up on Tuesday ( Aug 16 ). I started at 270. Day of banding I was 250. I am currently 226. I got my first fill on Tuesday, 2 cc's. I am now at a total of 4cc's so far. My band is a large and holds 14cc's. Doctor wants me to lose 10 to 12 lbs by Oct 4. I don't feel restricted. Seems I can eat almost anything and it takes a while until I feel full but most days I never feel full. I think I need another fill. Am I trying to rush my weight loss to fast? Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks for all the encouragement, it sure helps.

My doctor gave me a card stating I had stomach surgery and can't eat more than 3oz. But I have never used it because most kids menus are loaded with fat and sugar.

I am 6 weeks out from my banding. The hardest thing for me is eating slowly. I chew slowly and at least 20 times. But I don't really know if it is slow enough. I have not had a fill yet. How long does it take for you all to eat a meal? What method do you use to eat slowly? I most times read the paper while eating to slow myself down. Allot of times my wife will remind me to slow down.!!!!!!!

All great info, thanks. I have been using a little fork from Red Lobster. Minus the lobster of course

How has your health improved due to the surgery

First I feel great since my banding on May 23, 2011. I have lost 23 lbs since May 9th. I have allot more energy and I am riding a bicycle again. Never thought I would. My BP is 116/60, my diabetes meds have been lowered twice. I can bend over and tie my shoes. Small things for some, big things for us. -
Great Thee-o. Sounds like you have a good plan going. I will have my 6 week check up on july 5th. I am down 12 lbs at 4 weeks. I actually don't feel like I have any restriction and I have not had a fill yet. Keep up the great work.

I made my own chart with Excel. Made my own menu with the help of my RD.

Since I was banded on May 23 my blood sugar numbers are fantastic. I used to have to take 14 units of Hummalog before meals and 60 units of Lantus at night. Since being banded I seldom need the Hummalog and when I do it is only 3 units. Lantus is down to 10 units. What a dramatic improvement. Now I realize that I am taking in very few carbs and honestly I hope to stay this way. How is everyone else's readings since banding?

No problems at all. Why is it the first thing people think of is a lawyer!!!!??? Unless you are seriously hurt or in terrible pain I don't see a need to sue~! -
2 Weeks Pot-Op...Feeling Fantastic!
rick1951 replied to TracieT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tracie and Pinky........I too was banded on May 23 and feel fantastic. I am able to walk with no pains and I can walk longer than I have in a long time. I even bought a new bicycle today so I can ride on a local trail. I agree with everything you say. I believe that another important part is following the doctor's instructions. I have followed everything to the t and I am down 21 lbs and have started full liquids and will move to pureed next week. Only minor problem I have is swelling around my port but he said that was not a problem. I never knew losing weight could feel this good. -
Poll: Which shake is the best?
rick1951 replied to mamajen1221's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, Walmart's whey protein tastes best and is very easy to drink. Isopure is the nastyest tasting liquid I have ever had. My wife works for GNC. They have these tubes of liquid protein( can't remember the name ), but they are good when watered down. The liquid protein is just to sickening sweet for me. -
How about some more men responding. If you have/had ED did the banding change anything? I'd like to know so I can look forward to a normal or close to normal sex life again.

Had my first doctor's appt. today. Doc is very pleased with my recover and weight loss. He advanced me to full liquids this week and next week I move to soft. I have lost 21 lbs since May 9th. I have lost 30 lbs since April 1. Only problem is the port site is still swollen and sore. I need to ice it more often. Overall I am very pleased. Just wish I knew how to update my Weight Loss Ticker.

Soy beans are the only complete protein. They taste great and are very easy to eat. -
Lap Band Surgery Week of May 23rd - 27th, 2011
rick1951 replied to MisBea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I was banded on May 23rd. The night of the surgery was the worst. The CO2 they used to lift my abdoman was sooooooooooooooo painful I could not lay down. Didn't slepp monday night. Since then i have improved each day. Port area is les painful each day. No problems with liquid going down. Clear liquid for the first 2 weeks then full liquid. Never thought creamed Soup would sound so good.!!!! My first visit to the doctor's office was in late November 2010. Weight was 270 Weight day of the surgery was 253 Today ( June 1 ) 242 -
My doctor make us stay on liquids for 2-3 weeks. I am doing really good and am losing weight so I think he may advance me when I see him on Monday.

Whey protein powder from Wal-mart. GREAT!

I just had my surgery 1 week ago. I am still on the clear liquid phase. Diluted apple juice, diluted grape juice, Water, broths, sugarfree popcicles, sugarfree fruit pops, and Protein drinks not powders. I wore shorts and t shirt to hospital, then my wife took them home and brought me cleans ones Tuesday when I was discharged. As for pain killers, I had percocet ( used once ), liquid Tylenol, Prevacid and an anti nausea med. After Wednesday I didn't take anymore pain meds.Drinking all liquids didn't give me constipation, just a watery stool. I go to the doc on June 6th and for my first post-op check up. One secert.............walk as much as you can. The fill your abdoman with CO2 and it hurt me like heck until I walked and got rid of it. Laying in bed is the worst thing you can do. Hope this helps you. Good Luck.

Good Luck.................Mine was done Monday May 23, 2011. Only problem I had was gas pains. The first night is the worst. But after that just some minor pain. Walking is the key, keep moving. You will make it with flying colors.

I just had my band done on May 23, 2011. I have felt hungry but it passes. I just get a drink of Water or Protein or Jello. NEVER EVER binge again. If you do, you just wasted $30,000.
