  1. Hi ya'll. I'm still waiting for insurance approval, and was just wondering if anyone on this forum, has had their sleeve done at the Bariatric Center at Providence in Waco, Texas. If so, how was your experience, and would you be willing to share how the recovery time in the hospital was. Thank You, JJ
  2. My surgery hasn't been scheduled yet, however, I've gotten a call from admitting at Providence Hospital that Tricare covers everything except an $11.00/day copay. I can't complain too much about that. From what I'm gathering, I'm pretty lucky. Good luck to you!

    Returning to work

Don't let your friend change your mind. You made this decision because you know that it's what you want/need to do for yourself. You're not doing this for anyone else but yourself!
  4. Hi there, I haven't been sleeved yet, however, I've started really watching my intake of food, along with portion control, and having some issues with really low blood sugars(56-79 on a daily basis). What my question is: If you were a type II Diabetic before being sleeved, and on medication. What's it like after being sleeved? do you have much more problem with being hypoglycemic instead? How long did it take to get off of the medications? Thanks for any help or advice, JJ

    JUST CURIOUS....6 months out!

I have to remember that I didn't put this weight on overnight, I don't expect it all to come off overnight. I will take whatever I can in however long it will take me.
  9. Hello out there. I want to let you all know how much I enjoy reading this forum. I've been watching it for almost two months, and am getting so excited for my date to finally come. Should be the first week of August, if all goes well with Insurance and the rest of the appts that are scheduled. I have Tricare, and I understand them to be pretty . quick in their approvals. I am thankful that you are all so willing to share your stories with everyone and to be such an awesome support system. I have support from my immediate family in the house, just not everywhere else. So, I look for inspiration here daily to re-iterate that I'm doing and making the right decision for my life. I hope you all have a great weekend, and I look forward to hearing from you.

  11. Hi There, I'm JJ, and I'm definitely a newbie here. I've been looking into both the lapband and the sleeve. With the help of my surgeon, I've decided on doing the sleeve. I'm still waiting to get the requirements met before they can send it to my insurance and had a question in regards to the Psych Evaluation. What is it about? What are they going to ask? I'm just curious. I'm thankful for all of you who have gone through this and have the willingness to be a support group to newcomers. I look forward to chatting with you all. thanks, JJ

    Newbie from Texas

penpen, I appreciate the support! I've been reading the forums for a while now, and have learned so much from everyone. I'm hoping for an early August Sleeving. As I still have to do an Endoscopy at the beginning of July, and was already told that my surgical team was booked through the third week of July. JJ

dallasmom, I'm having mine done in Waco by Dr. Sims at the Providence Bariatric Center.
  16. Hi, my name is JJ, and I live in Central Texas. I'm just getting ready to turn 40 in September. I've decided that after a lifetime of yo-yo dieting and failures, that I need to get livin' in the right way. I'm 5'3" and weigh 309lbs. I'm married to a man 30 years my senior, and we have two beautiful great grandaughters that we just live for. I decided that if I keep going the route that I'm going, I won't be around to see these two beautiful girls grow. Not only that, I'm type II diabetic - insulin dependent. I'm quite tired of being a pin-cushion. I'm hoping that with the help of the lapband, that I'll be able to get off the insulin and various other medicines for diabetes, blood pressure, etc. I see the surgeon and nutrionist this friday, June 3rd, and am quite anxious, excited, etc. I'm not quite sure what to expect. In fact, on Monday, i have the psych evaluation, and then Tuesday, I have the pre-op/education class and then that evening, I'm scheduled to go to the first seminar. Does that seem like it's in the right order? I've been reading a lot on this forum, and grateful for all the other bandsters out there that have experienced this, and have advice for us newbies. Anyways, I'm longwinded, I apologize. Thanks for having me here. JJ

    What to Tell'em

I've done research on this subject and discussed it with my best friend over the last year, and then I brought it to the attention of my husband. He is worried about what it will entail. But, he's with me on it. I've told my friends and my family members exactly what I'm planning on doing. If they are on board with what I'm doing, and can support me, Great! If not, it's not their life. I have made this decision to change my life for the better. That's it, no further discussion is really needed. Who cares what everyone else thinks? It's your life, and do with it as you see fit and necessary.
