    Day of surgery

Mine went very smooth! Hubby and I left at 7:30am in order to arrive at the hosptial at 10:00.Got signed in and they took me up to preop and asked all the questions, etc, weighed in, arm band put on, iv line placed. Then they brought hubby up. Then came the anes doc and the my surgeon. At noon they wheeled me off to OR and I really dont remember anything until I was woke up by a nurse and transfered to my room. Surgery was suppose to an hour and recovery and hour but I was in recovery longer cuz my heartrate was so low. Slept alot at first, got hooked up to my pain pump and chilled out! I had a cath in place which I for one am always grateful for so I do not have to wait for someone to help me go to the bathroom. I had a cannula for oxygen cuz of the pain pump. I had them add a humidifer too it so that my nose would not dry out and start bleeding. They were suppose to get me up for a walk 3 hours after surgery but they too busy and were not able to get to me. My hubby got upset (he is a veterinarian so he knows the dangers of blood clots) so I told him just chill and you can get me up for a walkabout. No big deal. So that is what we did. The only problems I had were my low heart rate. Other than that it went very smooth. Did the swallow test mid afternoon. Once that was check by the surgeon I was able to be released. So the drain was removed and all my fluids, cath, and iv line and out the door I went!

  5. Dahlia, Yep I am home! Was discharged last Tuesday (2nd) about 3pm. I had pain on my left side and shoulder so I used the pain meds and a heating pad. The heating pad helped alot. My surgery was done in the Kansas City area (Overland Park , KS) at Hospital Spine & Specialty. I was able to stay pretty doped up so I was not in pain. Dr. K also give 3 rounds of a strong non steroidal called Toradol...very nice! Been walking 30 minutes each day since Wed. Today is the best day so far. No nausea or vomiting...thank goodness. I could not tolerate the liquid lortab so I used left over vicdoin and cut it in half. Here is to a new us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I have to be honest....

Hang in there Honey!!! Gotta remember that most surgeons have a bedside manner of a baboon! But as long as they are great in the OR who cares? You are doing AWESOME and he will be able to move the liver just fine with the surgical instruments if he even has half a brain. Saving you a seat on the losers bench for ya! Oh and by the way..I have a rare liver disease called Primary Biliary Cirrhosis. If they can perform a VSG on me they should have no problem with you my dear.
  7. I am getting in my 30 min of walking each day. 15 or 20 min at a time. Take pain meds every so often. Eating greek yogart (yum) drinking Isopure so it is easier to get the protein and liquids in. SF popsicles are still my friend. Fudgesicles are very bad juju

  17. I was surfing yesterday thru all the wls forums and found a post from a Doctor. He recommends all his patients to drink mint tea to get rid of gas. So I sent hubby to the store and drank some and YEP it does work! So happy burping everyone!
  18. Wishing everyone here the best of luck with surgery and recovery. Please let us know when you feel up to it how things are going. I can say that today (day 3 postop) is alot easier to swallow liquids than yesterday. Still uncomfortable but better. Also got my 30min of walking in yesterday and 15 today. working on my Isopure now.
  19. Congrats and thanks for sharing your story. It really inspires the rest of us. Oh and by the way you look very handsome in a suit

    home from the hospital

Sorry for the pain you are having. It is not fun at all. I am day 3 from surgery. I could not tolerate the liquid lortab. Made me want to puke but I did not. But I was not going to take the chance that it would. I switched to chewable tylenol cuz liquids hurt going down. So I am trying to get all my liquids in either in liquid form (ouch) or popsicles & fudgesicles. Now I did come across some advise from a physician about the gas pain and I tried and for me it worked very well. Use mint or peppermint tea and yes you can start burping...yeah! Plus use your heating pad...that has been a lifesaver too. Also, if your incisions start to itch then yes that is a sign they are healing...however keep an close eye on them to make sure the itching is healing and not an infection. you know foul odor, etc. Good luck!
