Regretting surgery
mamamckinzie replied to Sheenan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand your frustration! I am at 17 days and I was soooo looking forward to mushies but each time I eat I get so nauseated! Doc prescribed me generic Zofran. I also started taking Prilosec. I do not regret the sleeve I am just tired of feeling like I want to get sick each time I eat or drink. Plus run off to the bathroom. I have to be careful cuz I travel for work so I am not exactly a happy camper right now. I just hope it ends soon. -
Today is MY day!!

What my therapist wrote on my psych eval for insurance
mamamckinzie replied to lovePINK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did any of the assesments ring true? Are you in an abusive relationship? Outside of the surgery factor what is your reaction to the overall evaluation? -
Having a super difficult time eating SLOWLY!!!!!!!
mamamckinzie replied to italianlady13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am struggling with this too! I grew up with 3 older brothers so eating fast is very ingrained habit for me. Plus I have a busy job and I eat fast so I can get back to work It does not feel good when you eat fast with the sleeve. I am hoping aversion therapy will finally get it into my head to slow down. -
yeah I can only get in 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food....dying for a popsicle right now..lol

Hey all...I think I fell out of the announcers booth and hit the pavement. I am on the pureed stage and for the last 4 days I have not felt well. I was looking forward to pureeds but I just end up feeling sick to my stomach after I eat. Sometimes I even get so nausated that I end my with the "slimey effect" and the big D. Right now I am in my hotel room and just went thru an episode after I ate. It's been difficult to eat and get my fluids in. I would love some SF popsicles but I only have a fridge not a freezer in my room. How long is this phase suppose to last?...sorry for being a downer.

Rocking my sleeve !!!! NO REGRETS WHATSOEVER!

Woot! Woot! Keep on rocking that sleeve! -
Thanks for the update Libbee! I do not know why hospitals started using lidocaine before doing the stick. It really is a waste. It burns and is very uncomfortable. A good nurse should be able to give a stick with just minimal pain without the Lido. I know most of the nurses don't care for it either. Bummer about the AC...that would of put me thru the ceiling. You certainly have alot more energy postop than I do! Good for you! I still get tired easily but I also suffer from fatigue anyway so it is not unusual. Have fun at the wedding!

2 weeks, 3 days out... can I drink yet?
mamamckinzie replied to gdc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
apparently gdc was just looking for people to tell her to go ahead. As a person with a rare liver disease it's people like you that make me shake my head in disbelief. I just hope you dont bump someone from their place to get a liver transplant that has tried to take care of themselves after you ruin yours! -

Have to go back on the road next! Scared!
mamamckinzie posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Next week I go back to work so that means back in the car and away I go! I travel 1-2 nights each week. Then the latter part of the week I travel closer to home and can come home at night. I average 800 or so miles a week. The hotel I stay at has a micro and fridge so I will bring along my small food processor and can go to grocery store. Bring protein shakes etc...just nervous about adjusting to life on the road with my brand new tummy. -
Meme & Ladybug have checked in and both are doing well thank God Almighty! We still have other members at bat this week so good luck and keep us posted! Go All Stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another Alcohol Question
mamamckinzie replied to sarahh1828's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Found on web Sunday, September 30, 2007 Alcohol after Gastric Bypass A glass of wine or two. A beer. A little mixed drink. Would that be OK after a gastric bypass? Well, early after the surgery, while the stomach is healing, you really want to avoid the irritant effect of alcohol. You want your pouch to heal well. So, the answer, as far as we know, is "no". But, what about drinking, let's say 6 months, a year, or more after the surgery? A very interesting study confirmed the previous opinion, that is, alcohol levels go higher after gastric bypass than people who had no such surgery. In a study published in the September issue of the journal "Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases" (SOARD), researchers from Stanford School of Medicine, Stanford, California, concluded that the gastric bypass patients had a greater peak alcohol level and a longer time for the alcohol level to come back down to zero than the individuals who did not have gastric bypass. A particularly interesting finding was that the gastric bypass patients did not feel that alcohol influenced them any more than the no-surgery group. Could that explain why there are reports of post-gastric bypass patients who were cited for driving under the influence (DUI) after a small social alcoholic drink? Maybe. But also remember that there are other complications related to alcohol intake. Liver disease from alcohol is well-known. To develop alcoholic liver disease on top of the known obesity-related liver disease can be particularly dangerous. Alcohol is not good for peptic ulcers, either. Alcohol calories are empty calories, which is not what gastric bypass patients want to ingest. Also alcohol drinking has been linked to Vitamin B1 deficiency. Severe vitamin B1 deficiency can lead to serious nerve damage, that is, Wernicke’s encephalopathy. So far, we do not have a perfectly scientific answer to the question: Is it OK to drink, in moderation, if you are not driving, several months or years after gastric bypass? We just do not have the final answer, and prefer to err on the cautious side. Better be safe than sorry. References: Klockhoff H, Naslund I, Jones AW. Faster absorption of ethanol and higher peak concentration in women after gastric bypass surgery.Br J Clin Pharmacol. 2002 Dec;54(6):587-91. Hagedorn JC, Encarnacion B, Brat GA, Morton JM. Does gastric bypass alter alcohol metabolism? SOARD. 2007 Sept;3(5):543-8. (Note: This is the study quoted above) Posted by Hanafy M. Congrats! Glad you are doing so well. My surgery was last week and aside from blood pressure and heart issues it was smooth sailing. I had IV nausea meds and Toradol plus the morphine pump. Been home recovering. Keep us posted! -
