    Just Got The Call

Congrats to both of you! You will love the sleeved life!
  3. I remember I had to go back to shakes for a few days when I started throwing up. I also had the doc script me some Zofran to help. I think I was at 4 weeks or so when that happen. I will go away but it was not much fun that's for sure! My tummy was still pretty swollen at the time.
  4. To my fellow low BMI'ers....you will lose weight! I started out at a bmi of 31.1 and now I am 19.5! Hips went from 50 to 38 inches. I averaged 10lbs a month the first few months and then slowed down from there. This will work! Just follow your doctor's guidelines and let it play out! You will not regret it. And so what if it comes off slow? Better than gaining! Went from a 18/20 pant to a size 8 Tops XL to Medium Happiness meter went from a 3 to 10 plus!!!

    One Year Surgiversary!

Awesome job Cam! I felt like I was reading my own soon to be description of my surgiversary next month I too was a 16/18 (more like 20 cuz my clothes were pretty stretched and I would not buy new ones) now I am a 6 dress and a 8 in pants...wow! I enjoy clothes shopping for the first time in DECADES. No more dressing room meltdowns No more pain in my feet and knees. Just loving the new me!!!!
  6. Hey AllStars! Hope everyone is doing well. Can you believe next month will be our 1 year surgiversary?! WoW! Remember all of us being excited and scared last year at this time? It has been an incredible journey and I am so thankful for all of you and my bariatric surgeon for giving my life back to me. I am in maintenance and loving it! I have not weighed 127lbs since I was in my early 20's. Still need to tighten up the skin but it will happen sooner or later.
  7. Way to Go!!!! You have done outstanding!!!!!
  8. My surgery date was Aug 1, 2011 and I weighed 199lbs with a doctor's goal of 140lbs and my personal goal was 135. I only had a 2 day preop so no problems there. The first 3 months were tough due to nausea and vomiting but I got past that. I averaged 10lbs a month the first 4 months. Excercised 3-4 times a week. Mostly walking but now I am starting some strength training. I do have loose skin on my tummy from being overweight and having 2 kids. I have "butt wrinkles & thigh wrinkles" and flabby underarms but I am working on reducing the loose skin. But I am 50 yr old so I do not expect to look like I am in my 20's lol! I try to always follow the protein first, then veggies, fruit, carb if I have room. I have wonderful restriction and have found this to be the best thing I have ever done for myself. I still have issues from diarrhea that I have to watch but that is also because of liver medication I have to take. I would recommend this procedure to anyone that wants to get off the diet merry go round and find the right tool for successful weightloss. I weighed in this morning at 128.8 and I am not "trying" to lose anymore. Very Happy! :D
  9. there are alot of posts concerning both doctors on this board...poke around and read a few people's journeys

    Sleeve In 4 Hours Today!

Whoo Hoo! See you on the other side! Remember to rest, sip, walk, repeat!
  11. If your blood work has come back fine I would not worry to much about the Hydrocodone. I have a rare liver disease, have had VSG and still able to take hydrocodone for pain. Not as frequently as you but hopefully once the weight comes off you will have relief from pain.
  12. It's okay to have doubts before surgery. It is elective surgery so you have the choice. You can choose to something that will forever change your life for the better! Is it easy? Nope! Not at first. My first 3 months were a bit rough but each day got better and better and staying on this board helped tremendously! This will be the best decision you can make for yourself! Soon you will be laughing at all those diet commercials!

    Struggling With Doubts

Oh the pre surgery jitters! Yikes! I remember those days! Should I go for surgery or one more round of dieting? Of course I already had been on every diet program known to mankind! So what was the point? It really comes down to having jitters about the surgery itself. But relax! This is a very safe procedure and I am sure you have done your homework on your surgeon. My husband did not want me to have surgery either and he IS a surgeon! Okay, he is a Veterinarian but he is still a surgeon! LOL! Plus I am a high risk patient cuz I have a rare liver disease. But it is ALL SO WORTH IT!!!!!! The hardest part is starting the journey, then the first 3 months as you get used to your new eating lifestyle. Your mind will play tricks on you over food size and portions. But it becomes easier and easier as each day goes by! I am 8 months out and have not only reach goal but went under by a few pounds! Now I can go shopping for clothes and not have a fitting room melt down! Plus I get to laugh at all the diet commercials! Hang in there girl...you will be glad you did!

    Anesthesia

What do you mean by you felt you were over sedated? Could you be a bit more specific about your concerns? Are you concerned over nausea, allergic reactions, etc? Normally you are prepped before you go to OR. Your vitals will be taken and you will be asked the same questions several times to make sure there is no disagreement with previous information you have provided about your health status and medications you may be on. You will be given an IV to pre-sedate upon your arrival to OR. Usually this is Versed. It relaxes you but you can still response to directions from the surgery team but you will have no memory of it. Then you will be placed under gas anesthesia. Normally that is either Isoflo or Sevo. But anesthestics work very well and leave the body fairly quickly after the procedure is done. You should discuss any concerns you have with surgeon prior to surgery so he/she can explain the procedure and address and concerns you have.
