Last week was the consult and the EGD. This week has been the Psych & the Nut. Finshed the Nut today. Now I have to wait for them to all agree "yes let the woman have her sleeve". Then I am suppose to get a call from the surgical nurse to come in for a surgical consult and get my surgery date. Hopefully the first week of August! At least I only have to do the 2 days before surgery clear liquid diet instead of the 2 week preop But I think I will do one week of preop anyway just to get used to liquids. Counting the days...counting the days...

No I am having surgery here in the Kansas City area. I am hoping for a surgery date the first of August. I am self pay but they have a special for $11,999. Only 1 overnight so it works out better for my hubby and I's schedule

~ Not Sure What To Do
mamamckinzie replied to Samantha~Leibold's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am going thru the steps for WLS. When I started I checked out the lapband first. I liked the idea of it not being permanent. I went an had a consult and was seriously considering that direction. After reading so many reports of problems and slow weight loss I decided to go to another seminar that covered all the differenct surgeries. After I got over the shock of the removal of stomach part I decided that of all the procedures I liked the sleeve best. Then I kept looking at the differenct WLS boards and found that most people were very successful with the sleeve. I did not like the idea of slippage, possible emergency surgery due to slippage or erosion. Yesterday I say the psych and today I see the nut. Good luck on whatever surgery you decide on. We will be here for you no matter what your decision. -
our surgery dates will be very close together if you would like a sleeve sister

LaTasha, You have really been thru the ringer but have managed to come out as a champ! You have faced several severe challenges and I am glad you are wise to seek a therapist. It is always best to seek help on our journey thru life when we need it. I am hypothroid and battle depression too. I have a rare liver disease that causes fatigue among other things so I understand your medical struggle even though I have not battled cancer. You are a very brave and inspirational lady. The people here on this board are simply fantastic and we will be there for you as you begin your new journey for WLS. I believe you have made the right decision. You obviously know your body well as a body builder and realized that traditional dieting will no longer work for you. Congratulations on your decision and keep us posted.

I will be paying $11,999 in August in kansas city kansas area. Includes doctor, hosp (1 night) and 1 year follow up. The insurance is Bliss ($1800) but I decided not to take it. My doc was head of the bariatric hospital in Philly so the only I was concerned about was dehydration and needed an iv line. But my hubby is a veterinarian so he can put one in if I need it. My insurance will pick up EGD, Pre op blood I pay 10% and copays.

Thinkthin, I know how you feel...I have felt the exact same way. I am 5 ft 6in (used to be 5ft 7 lol!) and I weight 199lbs. I too am sick and tired of all the yo yo diets..tried everything 2, 3, 4 or more times. After much research decided that the sleeve was the best tool available to me. I know if I were to tell people that I do not have the utmost trust in I would probably hear the "oh, your not that fat....you could do it with diet & excercise, etc. The thing is you and I know better. We know what our journey has been and we cannot expect other to understand. You are ready for this journey this time around and you have a great support network here with us! I will have my EGD tomorrow (Friday) Psych on tues & Nut on Wed. Then I will find out my surgery date. Good luck...be strong..and remember you are making a healthy choice for you! -
That's awesome! Glad you are on your way! Keep us posted and remember...Rock that Sleeve!

New To The Site and Newly Sleeved
mamamckinzie replied to FindingReneeAgain's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Renee, So glad you are here! Sounds like you are progressing along with your new "sleeve". Everyone here is very nice and quite helpful so ask away. My doctor and I are shooting for the first week of August. Keep us posted! -
did you tell people about thinking/having vsg?
mamamckinzie replied to jasleeve's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have found that people can act really strange about weight. Why that is I will never figure out. I do not understand why some people are so judgemental. Therefore, only my husband, kids (15&13) know and one awesome and supportive friend. Other friends that live out of state I may tell later. It really will be a case by case thing. This is MY decision. I do not need any one else's approval or disapproval. I prefer to surround myself with people like yourselves who understand this journey. -

mamamckinzie posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good news! Doc thought I was a good canidate for the sleeve! This Friday I get an EGD so he can make sure there are no polyps, tumors, etc in the stomach. Tomorrow I setup appts with nut/psych and then when all 3 are completed I get my surgery date! :D Doc thought the end of July or first week of August would work...can't wait!!!!!!! If the radiology team was called in by your bari and they refusedto come in that is a huge no no . The ordering physcian needs to know that he was refused. That is a disregard for doctors orders. They should be shaking in their shoes cuz IF you would of had a serious complication (I am talking er surgery) and they did not come in that in itself is a lawsuit. You are correct to be calling the er admin and the hosp admin. You need to call both. Also, loop your bari into the process. If you get to actually "see" the admins I would bring in a picture of what the stomach looks like post vsg. I am sorry that human medicine is so stupid sometimes. I used to work on the human side and switched to the animal side.
