  1. Doc said band was to tight. Crazy because I had not had a fill in over 2 years and it had been perfectly okay for me with no problems whatsoever. He believes a new band will work again because I had such success the first time.

  2. Hi everyone,

I was banded in February 2011. I was down 175 lbs the first year and a half, I was completely motivated and working my butt off to get where I wanted to be. I was at my sweet spot, completely satisfied and happy with my progress. About a year ago, I started getting sick every time I would eat anything. I called the doctor, he took some Fluid out, and I was okay again. 5 months ago the same thing started happening again, only now in the middle of the night I would wake up choking, and throwing up black liquids. Honestly, the first time this happened, I had a small brownie that afternoon so didn't think to much about it. Only, over the next few months this would happen 3-4 nights per week (and I can guarantee I have not touched another brownie since that day). About 3 weeks ago I finally broke down and called the doctor because it was not getting any better. He brought me right in, completely emptied my band and sent me over for more testing (barium swallow). I found out that day I had a slip. He says its very possible all of the throwing up was the cause, and he told me we would see what happened over the next 3 weeks and see if the problem fixed itself. So, I went back for another barium swallow, and apparently it didn't change, I've still been throwing up, so he wants to remove the band, and put another one in at the same time if he can. Now I'm scared, I don't know what I should do, and I know it's quite obvious that I need something, and I was very happy with my band. From the time 3 weeks ago that he emptied my band until I went back, I had gained 10 lbs, so I can't wait to much longer to make up my mind. My surgery is scheduled for next week. Advice?

  3. Today is one year since being banded. I have to say this has been the most exciting year ever, and I would gladly do this again! I have worked really hard all year long to do my absolute best and I am currently down 160 pounds. I had a major surgery at the end of December so it stalled my weight loss, but I am back to working out again, and I can't wait to see what happens in the next year!

  4. I think we all do this. I was approved for my surgery last December and gained 20 lbs before my Feb 2nd surgery. In most of our minds we need to eat everything we possibly can because we "might" not be able to eat it again in the future. I wish I knew then what I know now, because then I wouldn't have had to lose that extra 20 lbs. There is not much that I can not eat now. It's all about Portion Control. No one ever said we couldn't have that pizza (or whatever else) again, for some reason I just "heard" that. Boy was I wrong!

  5. Hi everyone. I had my surgery on February 2nd. Currently I am down 140lbs including my pre-op diet. Every day since surgery I have worked my butt off to do the best I can do. I go to the gym 4-5 days per week and then walk the other days. 2 weeks ago I had a death in the family and took it very hard. I seemed to revert back to the "old" ways of eating. That weekend I think all I did eat was chocolate chip Cookies and Cereal. Obviously it wasn't the right thing to do. I called my nurse and admitted what I was doing, and I stopped it and started back doing what I am suppose to do. I considered myself lucky when I did my weekly weigh in and my weight was the exact number it was the Friday before. Now fast forward a week, I have worked out even more, kept my calories between 1000-1200 and have cut out the carbs. I weigh in today and I have gained a pound. So for 3 weeks I weighed the exact same thing, and today I am up. Now I'm aggravated, but I have to say getting the band was the best decision I have ever made. I just need to get the scale going back down. Any advice on what to do to from here?

  6. This happened to me too a couple of weeks ago. It started like that, then got to the point that I couldn't keep anything down at all, including Soup. I had to go in and get an unfill, and he took 1cc out. I had to go through a lot of testing to make sure my band was okay from as many times as I got sick. I'd call your doctor. Good luck.

  7. This has happened to me EVERY single time. I end up having to go to the hospital to get the fill under flouro. I'm actually more comfortable getting it this way after all ove the times he has tried without it and not had any luck. My port has somehow moved/tilted so it's never in the same except place. I've been told it's because I dropped weight so fast. I guess we will see what happens in 2 weeks for my next fill! Good luck with yours!

  8. I am 7 months post band also. I can't eat until about 11-12ish because I feel tighter in the mornings, so I drink Protein Shakes every morning. I find that it helps me get all the Protein intake I need. I either do the EAS protein shakes that are 110 calories and 17 grams of protein or the Oh Yeah Cookies and Cream that are 220 calories and 32 grams of protein. I have to change it up sometimes so I don't get bored with the flavors. I've lost 138 lbs in the past 7 months, so I'm guessing it can't be too much of a problem to do this :)

  9. This happened to me on Friday. I ate 1/2 of a baked chicken finger for lunch and apparently I got stuck. The rest of the afternoon I was sick and finally called my nurse. I had to go in to the hospital to get them to remove some Fluid. They let some it all out and made me drink Water to see if I was able to keep it down, once I could they put the fluid back in. The pain stopped as soon as they took the fluid out.

  10. I'm not quite comfortable talking about beginning weight...yet! However I will tell you I still have quite a bit to lose. My goal weight is 175 (or so I'm thinking). I write down everything I eat (and drink) so I am accountable for it. I exercise daily, and try to add new workouts to change it up so my body does not get bored with the same routine. I have also learned if I up my Water intake it helps me lose more weight.
