My Fitness Pal - Wanna Be Friends?

I'm on MFP as well. Plus there is a lap band group there.
  2. No, I don't like it! The site is no longer rendering properly in IE. It's ok at the top of the page but becomes an absolute scrambled mess as I scroll down. Seems to me to be a classic case of failing to test in all browsers and versions used by visitors. I have to use IE for work purposes so will not be changing my browser. Unfortunately, this means that I will probably become a significantly less frequent visitor.
  3. It depends on how far post op you are. It may simply be that your stomach is not yet ready for solids.

    Social Life?

I am a social butterfly and to be perfectly honest, after saying no thanks a couple of times, people have stopped pushing food onto me. If I make a big deal of it, then they will make a big deal of it. A quiet but firm, no thank you and then change the subject or move on seems to do the trick. Don't 'fake it' because you may feel guilty about lying./fudging the truth to people, and you have to remember which story you have told to which person and that becomes really messy.

    cc restriction

Your dr can add more than 1cc at each fill, however, drs work to their own guidelines, typically based on their experience, as to how much they will put in each time. My first fill I got 2.5cc, then 1 cc, tehn 0.5 cc, then nothing, and then 1 cc. Just remember that this is a marathon, not a sprint and a slow and steady approach will be more successful in the long run.

    What my doc said today...

That,s really encouraging news from your Dr. Sounds like she is definitely on your team for success. I've lost more than 100lb in seven months. Best wishes

Trying to get back on track

You've answered your own questions - do what your heart and body are begging you to do. Dump the junk food. Make healthier eating choices, get some exercise happening. You know that's what you want to do. You don't even need me to tell you that so just get out there and do it.

    Very Concerned- Please Read!

Plenty of good advice for you from all these posts, Justin, and it sounds like you are open to following your dr's guidelines so you should be fine. I've lost 106lb in seven months by following the rules and discovering the joys of exercise. I still have a ways to go but even though I have restriction and am satisfied by smaller portions, it is still a head game for me to not eat when I am not hungry. I win that battle more often than not, but believe me, it is still a battle! The band is a tool - I have to keep reminding myself of that!

WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?

One thing that I haven't seen mentioned in this discussion is exercise. If you are on holidays, sure, there will be plenty of extra food around to challenge us, but we can also get out of bed half an hour earlier and go for a walk, volunteer to take your hosts' dog for a run, take the kids to the playground, explore the area on a bicycle. The band and food are only two legs of our three legged stool - exercise is the third. Just my downunder two cents' worth!
  10. Definitely track your calories and your exercise. Myfitnesspal.com is really useful for that, plus there is a lapband group.

    lap band problems!

Ooops, I read your original post in Australian date format and thought you had been having these issues since January! What a relief that part was wrong! All I can actually offer is kind thoughts and best wishes. I hope you are able to get everything resolved and get started properly on this bandster journey.
  12. Congratulations and welcome to the forums. You can use the time ahead to practice your new eating habits - slowly, slower, slower! And plenty of chewing. I have found those to be the two hardest things to master so if you can start creating those habits ahead of getting banded you will find it so much easier down the track. Also, start living now as you will with the band - become very conscious of everything that you choose to eat, start to build up your exercise. That way you will be that little bit fitter and healther going into the surgery and will recover much better. Best of luck

    advice wanted and needed....

See a dr as soon as possible. Most likely it is nothing but in the meantime you will worry, so do everything that you can to put your mind at ease as quickly as you can.

    Need some encouragement

Do plenty of your own research into the band. While you are obviously and naturally disappointed that you are not able to get the sleeve as you had planned, you need to get fully informed before going ahead with the band. From what I have read on these forums, it is the people who are least informed who have the least success/most trouble living with the band. I would hate to see you going into surgery to get the band just because it is the only WLS you can get. Please become informed and then make an educated decision. On a personal note, I prefer the band because it wasn't physically cutting any of my internal organs. It can be removed if necessary and it is working for me - down 106lb in 7 months. Best of luck.

    So discouraged

There is a lap banders group on my fitness pal so you can share dietary advice with fellow bandsters. I would suggest upping hour exercise as well.

    food/fitness trackers

I believe you can adjust any of the nutritional values by clicking on the 'Is this information right?' link. FYI - my fitness pal now has groups and a lap banders group has been created so we can discuss food and exercise for our specific needs. and we can still come here for other topics about banding.

    what is this new pain?

See your dr. They can do tests much earlier than home tests. I would be worried about an ectopic pregnancy which can have serious consequences for you. Better to be patted on the head and told there is nothing wrong than to a.) worry yourself sick, b.) have a serious issue which can be dealt with.
  18. I know what the original poster means. I recently asked my husband to find and point out a woman who looks to him to be the same size that I am now because I just can't get my around my changing body. He found it very difficult (I think it's cos he measures with his hands rather than his eyes!) But seeing some recent pix of myself is helping me.
  19. SageTracey

    Is this normal??

could be gas, could be your port but highly unlikely you can actually feel your band. Why not ask at your check up. Good luck.

Do you eat the calories you burn?

Our bodies burn fuel just keeping us alive. Your BMI is a measure of how many calories you burn each day if you were just lying in bed doing absolutely nothing. If you then add your normal daily activities plus exercise, you have a total of the calories you burn in a day. You need to put less fuel than that in your body to lose weight. (As Corrigan said, this is very simplified explanation!) I think at the numbers you quote, you are definitely putting in less fuel than you burn. Good luck.

    Happy, Happy...Joy, Joy

Awesome! Have a fantastic day and make sure that everyone looks at you and sees how fabulous you are feeling about yourself. Well done.

    Totally Confused!!

I think most of us find that our restriction levels change throughout the day from being tighter in the mornings to looser in the latter parts of the day.

    First Lap Band Fill

Generally doesn't hurt. My surgeon doesn't numb and it's no worse than the small prick I feel when they take blood. It took until my third fill to start to feel some restriction.
  24. That's really strange. I haven't heard or read about that happening. Have you checked with your dr? Suggest you keep a good food journal so you can look back and identify any trends i.e. specific foods, ingredients, time of day etc.
