Sex Hang-Ups Before & After Surgery

Any hang ups you have before weight loss will still be there or may just manifest themselves differently post weight loss unless you get your head in the right space. My husband of 28 years has loved me through thick and thin - literally. I still worry about my looks but instead of it being my fat gut it is now my batwing arms. On the other hand, I have always thought he was drop dead gorgeous, but he worries about his stomach or his facial wrinkles. I guess it's just human to be dissatisfied with how we perceive ourselves.

Pre Op Diet Not Going Well

The pre-op diet is to shrink your liver to make surgery easier. If you have cheated too badly and not shrunk your liver then the surgeon may cancel the surgery or even get started but not be able to fit your band. If you have lost some weight you may be ok.

    Calling All Band Losers!

I am about 12 months ahead of you and have lost 60kg (about 135lb). The keys to my success have been: Great support from my husband. He has literally been beside me every step of the way Exercise. I thought I was fit before (ha ha!) but now I cycle, dance, walk or swim every day and love it. Planning a 100km bike ride this weekend Goals. I set smaller goals along the way and rewarded myself at each achievement. Mostly little things like a new watch when I broke through the 100kg mark, a new bike light when I could cycle 50km in a day, new dress for my son's wedding, etc. Having goals in smaller chunks makes them seem more achievable Follow up visits with my surgeon. He insists on them but I value them for being able to see him regularly, discuss my progress, get questions answered and, of course, get fills when needed
  5. Definitely a personal choice and, just like getting the surgery, it's not one that we should ever be judged on. i kept it private to start with but 13 months later am happy to share my story. I sometimes think that if I had heard from someone who had had the surgery, I might have gone down this path sooner and saved myself several years of morbid obesity.
  6. You are a survivor! If you are not having any symptoms then your band is more than likely just fine. I would suggest going back to your surgeon as soon as possible and let her/him know what you have been through - it will all be confidential and will give them the information they need to support you appropriately. I am sure they will be most encouraging of your commitment to get back on the bandwagon and should be able to provide you with strategies and support for success. Best wishes

    Salad

Sounds like a mild stuck. It's these sorts of events that remind of us the need to eat slowly and chew, chew, chew. Don't assume that this means you cannot eat lettuce.
  8. From the title of your forum, I assume you are looking to travel seven days after your surgery? You should be fine to make the trip but I would plan on having someone else do the driving and also being able to stop and walk at least once. Sitting for two hours one week post-op could become uncomfortable. You should also plan to make it a very relaxing holiday i.e. no strenuous activities, probably still no swimming, just walks, window shopping and concentrating on your recovery. Be sure to consider your diet at this time as you will probably be on liquids and not able to eat out with the family. Enjoy
  9. Sounds like you ate either too much or too fast. You should feel better soon.

    Were You Practicing???

Same post three times? No, I didn't practice pre-op. It just meant I had to catch on quickly post-op. Have lost 60kg in 13 months so must be possible. good luck.

    Poster Girl

Congratulations! That is a fantastic reward for a wonderful achievement and you deserve it.
  12. I also track my calories and exercise to keep myself aware of where I am at. It is very easy to lose that balance wtihout tracking.
  13. That this thing worked. I would have done it years ago!

    Help

The only way you can be certain is to see your dr. Do it sooner rather than later. Whether you need an unfill or not, only your dr can determine.

    Loving My Band

You are an inspiration! Congratulations and thanks for sharing.
  16. Based on personal experience only - I would not do it. I needed to sleep and walk regularly in the week after surgery and it was very difficult to get comfortable sitting in one place for anything more than 30 minutes. Plus you will be much less energetic than your travelling buddy so he\she will have to slow down considerably for you. have you considered how you will manage your post op liquid diet?I tend to eat out more when travelling and you won't be in a position to do that. good luck with your surgery
  17. It may not feel like it right now but it will pass. Surprised your surgeon didn't prescribe some anti-nausea meds. Hang in there.

I Have A Cold And I Want To Whine!

Personally I found having a cold with the band was no different than without. I think when you are sick, you need to listen to your body more. If you need to eat then eat, but do it carefully, with usual consideration to your band. If you don't feel like eating, then don't (but just while you are sick) - but be sure to keep your fluids up. At least you will be fully recovered by the holidays
  19. And without intending to sound harsh, in future, be sure to ask exactly how much you will have to pay so that you don't have to go through this stress again! I hope you are able to come to a good resolution.
  20. food has been our friend, comfort and even confidante for so long that it is like breaking up with a lover! I think it's natural to grieve for this change in one of our most significant relationships in life - but don't forget all of the great reasons why you have made this decision. Try writing down a list of the reasons why you want to get healthy and what they will mean to your quality of life, your family, relationships and possibly even your career. This will help you to put the whole thing into perspective. Yes, you will have to made some major changes to how and what you eat, but continuing on the way you have been is what has you got you where you are now. Once you start eating post-band, and especially once you get some fills and feel satiety or restriction, you will work out by trial and error what you can eat, how much and whether it is worth the cost in terms of your weight loss. I love the fact that I can now dance all night, cycle 60 -80 km in a day without even thinking about, that I can buy clothes from normal racks, sometimes even with S for small on them! I love that my husband and I have become even closer and that he is my greatest supporter on this journey. I love that my career has taken off on a new trajectory and I don't doubt that this is because I have lost weight and am now regarded differently in the workplace. Hang in there and you will get through this!

    Sleeping Comfortably Post-Op

I was never told anything about sleeping positions and just sleep where I am comfortable.

    Guilt

The more I deny myself something, the more I crave it and the more likely I am to breakdown and have it in bulk! Therefore, I think it best, for me, at least, to have no banned foods on my list, but to make sure I only eat small portions and only on an occasional basis. I don't feel guilty because I haven't lost my willpower, motivation etc.

    Did A Very Bad Thing

I can't see that you did a bad thing. If you have been eating well and exercising, then you are doing all the right things. Sounds like it was just TOM and time of day that have affected the scales. hang in there and keep up the good work.
  25. Good luck. PS Nerves are normal. You will be fine.
