Super Nervous .... First Fill Tomorrow !!!!

Don't be surprised if you haven't lost any more weight before you gain restriction with fills (notice the s on the end of fill - will probably take more than just one or two!) And don't beat yourself up on it yet either. You are still healing from surgery and the band is designed to make our weight loss slow so that it is successful and maintainable in the long term. Best of luck.

Went To See My Doctor Yesterday...

So sorry to hear of your frustrations. Sounds that just like general nurses/medical staff don't know much about the band, specialist/experienced band nurses don't know much about depression and other stuff! Good luck. Hope you get some results soon.

Broken Out In Hives All Over Body!!!

Could be coincidental timing and totally unrelated to being banded. Personally, I know that since getting banded, I have worried that every little health issue is band-related or will cause band problems. I am only just getting my head around the fact that my body continues to function and that it's not all about the band! Hope you are able to get some relief soon.

    Nsv And Major Goal Accomplished

Congratulations! Not sure that I will ever be brave enough to actually ride a rollercoaster but at least now it is an option for both you and I.

    Now I'm Scared!

You are undergoing surgery and making a major change in your life. Despite all your reading and research, you really don't know what you are letting yourself in for until you get there. You have tried and failed at weight loss for many years (most likely) and see this as your last chance for success. I'll bet when you sum it up like that you will understand that it's perfectly normal to be nervous. Hang in there. You can do this. You really are well prepared and you have a great support team around you - don't you?
  6. I still had left shoulder pain about 11 days post-op. My surgeon said it was referred pain from him moving my diaphragm during surgery. It will pass. Hang in there.
  7. congratulations. As someone else suggested, you need to Celebrate your success with a reward. I got a new gold watch when I got under 100kg because that number had always been my nemesis!

    7 Month Plateau

That would be so frustrating! Are you seeing changes in other areas like inches lost, changes in your clothing sizes, improved mobility, endurance etc. When the scales get stuck, it helps to recognise other areas of success. Good luck on getting the scales moving again, but also a huge congratulations on your 50lbs lost!

    Questions

You won't need an ice pack. I have had several fills and they truly don't hurt at all. If you have ever had blood taken, then this will be a breeze. Without knowing your weight or height, you may not be getting enough calories in to lose weight. that sounds strange, but if you are not fuelling your body adequately, it will hold on to what it has. There is no one number of calories that is right for everyone. It depends upon your height, weight, activity level and weight loss goals. Try logging with a site like www.myfitnesspal.com

    Nervous About Procedure 6/15/12

It's perfectly normal to feel nervous. This is a major surgery and you are embarking on a life changing journey. Try not to let your worries take control, acknowledge them as normal, be sure to ask your surgeon, anaesthetist etc any questions that are really troubling you. But also plan how to cope with the days following, with the gas, liquid diet, pain (low level and short term!) and you will be on course for success.
  11. liquids is liquids is liquids. Have you tried Soups? Just make sure they are blended to a creamy consistency. or custard, nice and runny

Anybody Cheat While On Pre Op Diet???

Yes, some people have posted here about cheating on the pre-op. It is understandable but not advisable. Your Dr makes you do the pre-op for a reason. hang in there and you will get thru this.

    Newbie Intro

Hi Jennifer, Sounds to me as though you would have benefited with some more education on living and eating with the band. Is there any way that you can pursue that now and give the band a red hot go before revision to a sleeve? I have nothing against the sleeve, but I don't see that your band has failed. In fact, I believe you could be successful with the band with some education and support which would avoid putting your body through another surgery at this time. Just my opinion....

    3Rd Fill Today

Good luck. Sometimes takes three to four fills so you might be on track now. You have been doing really well with your weight loss, too!

    Pizza

Both! I recently made a vegetable pizza on a flour tortilla which was very nice and good nutritionally.

    Taking First Step

Good luck. Glad to hear your hubby has pulled through.
  17. A lot of us have experienced irregularity as a result of weight loss but yours sounds much more than normal, especially as it should be regulated by the pill. If I was you, I would be insisting on further investigation. Don't take no for an answer, you know your body and you must stand up for your health, even if it means changing doctors. Good luck.

    Lap-Band Spouse

Congratulations to both you and your husband. It's fantastic that you are so supportive and that will be an enormous help to him. My husband is my greatest support and I doubt I could have done this without him. you can support him by being aware that he will get frustrated, he will struggle with old eating behaviours and with expectations. You can support him by exercising with him, walking, cycling, swimming, dancing are all great shared activities. good luck to both of you
  19. SageTracey

    Restriction??

It's highly unlikely that you will feel restriction with your first fill unless your surgeon is aggressive with fills. At the moment you are healing snooty won't be hungry just yet

    Stop The Madness

Set goals to work towards. I started with my son's wedding but knew that I would need to have something after that to keep me working. I met my goals for his wedding and am now working towards ticking of an item on my bucket list - a week long cycling tour called the Great Victorian Bike Ride at the end of November. Then I have the Lions Ride for Sight, another multi day group ride event coming up early next year. I am just going to keep on adding goals so that I always have something to work towards ....until maybe one day I will realise that I am eating healthily and exercising simply cos it's become a habit (actually, the exercise part is there now, just not the eating part. I still struggle with that one every day!)

    Feildtrip

Wow, that sounds both really helpful and also a little intimidating! I agree though that it can be a bit overwhelming to get to the store and have to make decisions on what to buy so that you can eat right for the next week. I try to plan our menu and then prepare a shopping list. Doing most of my cooking from a cookbook for bandsters at the moment, so that is helping, too. Good luck.
  25. Fish, scrambled eggs, plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, chicken, Greek yoghurt, cheese, more fresh fruit and vegies.....
