  1. hate to say but there is NO WAY you will be able to avoid the excess skin- and certainly not by your wedding. you have to do months to years of weight training and muscle building in order to fill in A) the tissue under the fat and skin and to rebuild the stripping of muscle that occurs with this type of rapid weight loss. anyone who has this type of rapid weight loss needs to know that you may be burning off fat but you are certainly stripping muscle that will need to be rebuilt later. The current calorie restriction is so severe that you would be unable to realistically add muscle until you are closer to your goal weight- then add calories and start doing heavy muscle building lifting. this will take months to years and you will be unable to achieve this is 3 months and certainly not while you are in a phase of rapid weight loss with severe calorie restriction. the only truly effective way to get rid of the excess skin will be upon reaching your goal weight and being stable and adding back some muscle- get plastic surgery- pannectomy, abdominoplasty, arm or thigh lift- whatever you need at the time congratulations onyour upcoming wedding! Enjoy!
  2. I agree with everything else that was said. Additionally you can have fluid retention- for women premenstrual, medication-induced (ie- many people gain water weight with meds such as naproxen sodium and others, taking in a lot of high-sodium foods like salty broths. Another consideration is to vary the calories you take in day by day. That may get your metabolism going again. The wisdom of the severe calorie restriction after surgery does elude me somewhat. With such minimal intake, one can easily go into starvation-mode and/or begin to strip muscle as oppsed to burn fat.
  3. Get some over the counter cortisone 1% and apply to itchy areas around the wounds (not to the wounds) twice daily.you may be having irritation reaction to the adhesive
  4. sleeved on 9.8. back at work 9/18- 13 hour day yesterday. did just fine. Fluid intake unlimited. Can take in a few ounces in a few minutes without any problems which is good as I really don't get breaks to sit down during day. On 2 Protein supplements a day and 3 mushy/pureed 4 weight oz daily. No pain no problems. Diarrhea has stopped, less flatulence. Only thing is I get HUNGRY- thought was not going to at this point, less than 2 weeks out. New sleevers- hang in there! You'll get to the other side soon.
  5. Believe it or not, I am following the post-op rules. Had a draconian 2 week pre-op all liquid high Protein low carb low fat diet that was disgusting to follow. I guess my surgeon goes scorched earth the 2 weeks before and advances diet aggressively post-op In the hospital I was one of maybe 10 bariatric patients done that day from the local surgeons including the large group I went to. The surgeon kept me no liquids at all until barium swallow next day. then advanced to Clear Liquids. Took in 1 oz of lite cranberry juice in tiny sips. Once took in another dose, they advanced my diet to purees and I ate a few spoonsful of pureed chicken moistened with baby food consistency carrots. Discharged with these rules: sip calorie free or Protein shake liquids at no more than 1 oz/15 minutes, eat 3 pureed meals daily with no eating /drinking within 20-30 minutes between. and walk/exercise as tolerated. In my pre-op class, 2 weeks before, asked the PA if could work out after (I had been doing cardio and weights) and she said yes but keep the weights to toning weights. I called her on Thursday (day 3 post op) and reviewed the post-op rules with her as I was mighty thirsty, especially perhaps with high-intensity cardio. She said could work out like that, lift weights up to 15#, and take in liquids as tolerated. Especially warm and room-temperature liquids. So I have upped my liquids with zero discomfort with the warm liquids- having a mug of warm decaf coffee right now. Much happier now that I can drink what I need. Given that I have no problems, no pain, no burping, I am going to continue hydrating with room-temperature and especially warm liquids as much as I can. I have been eating my 3 micro meals- all pureed foods I cooked night before surgery and pureed and froze- chili, chicken taco meat with salsa, chicken tandoori,, Persian meat and bean and fenugreek dish, moussaka, meatballs, chicken with spinach, brocolli and tomato- I made sure they were low fat, low carbs and high protein with low-carb veggies cooked into recipes. I figured I might as well enjoy the flavor profiles of my favorite foods. Have to say these are pretty good. (Taking Beano melt-tabs before all just in case) I used my immersion blender and made similar (albeit much spicier) pureed meals just like what I made for my kids when they were starting on pureed foods. The immersion blender is a great tool and easier to clean than a cuisinart type blender. So I am feeling really great. Exercised- cardio, Ran around with my kids today, got dressed up, makeup and all, and went to synagogue for a few hours too. Going to lift weights in a few minutes. I would hope all of you would be having an easy post-op course. I am post-op day 5 (sleeved 9/8) and feel about 90-95%- a little tired out after running around with a full day with my 3 and 6 year old but otherwise fine. Incisions healing well and the dermabond glue is starting to flake off. My only complaint is flatulence and diarrhea the latter of which is getting slightly better but still concerning. I try to hydrate so as to compensate for this great Fluid loss. I will see if this is all serving me well when I go to my 1st post op visit on 9/16. back to work a day later. I felt like a million bucks immediately post-op from the band 2/07 as well as from band removal 3/14- went to full day of work the next day back in March. So perhaps I heal and bounce back quicker.
  6. yeah, they might just be. Thanks for the advice. off to find another protein shot. hate taking them but like that they are concentrated so I can spend my time drinking things I like rather than stuff I have to
  7. Sleeved 9/8. Stayed overnight as expected. Never once pressed my pain pump button. Took one dose of Tylenol # 3 to sleep more than for pain. That was my only dose of pain Meds. Thursday 9/11 lifted light weights and did cardio interval training. Today 9/12 just did the cardio interval for 45 minutes. Likely took in way too much fluid today- must have been over 90 oz. getting over 100 G protein in daily via new whey shots and puréed protein meals. Night before surgery cooked favorite protein rich, low fat low carb foods and puréed and froze in little bathroom cups around 2 1/2 oz each. Feeling great. Doing a lot in the house but ventured out today to do errands for 2 hours and was wiped out by the time I was out 30 minutes. Felt weak. My big concern is DIARRHEA. Loose stools to point of terrible peri anal irritation that even diaper ointment will not help. Perhaps it is the protein supplements. Maybe it is the mallitol and other artificial sweeteners and bases in the bariatric vitamin chews. I had this terrible diarrhea while on the 2'week pre op liquid diet. Taking fiber supplements. To try to give my colon something to hold onto but not helping. Would appreciate any suggestions. I lost 23 # pre op in 2 weeks but it must have been from water loss from diarrhea and I fear the same now.
  8. Just got sleeve 9/8/14 (after band removed 3/14). I suggest New Whey protein shots. They are 42 G protein in less than 4 oz. isopure has that much in like 16-20 ounces. I mix it with a little bit of powerade zero to cut the slightly goopy texture and intense flavor or a little minute maid 15 cal/ 8 oz lemonade. Slight tartness cuts the flavor. Water it down with an ice cube. The stuff comes in grape and fruit punch and maybe other flavors. I got it on sale at grocery for around $3.50 a tube which sounds like a lot but it is packed concentrate protein and not too gross to take. I take 2- 2 1/2 a day in addition to my 3 allotted micro meals. This way I can drink more of what I prefer instead of these icky protein drinks all day.

    Left Shoulder Pain

I had that as well. also went up my left ear (nerves are connected). For me it was positional, happening when sitting upright and reducing upon reclining. I figured it was some sort of post-op diphragmatic irritation and/or CO2 gas still in my system. happened for maybe 2 weeks post-op.
