    African American Sleevers

Hello to all, I am so glad to see this post, I really enjoyed this website when I was initially going through the beginning of my WLS journey. But as time went on it no longer seemed to benefit me...that is until I found this post. First a little bit about me I am a 27 y/o AA female who was sleeved on August 27, 2010. My starting weight was 236 (I'm 52') and I am currently holding steady at 185. While initially I didn't have a goal wieght it seems to me that 165 will be a good stopping point. I researched quite a bit before the surgery and did a little soul searching to make sure I was truly doing this for me (versus my husband or child). It is a decision that I have not yet come to regret. I wanted to chime in on some of the things I have seen mentioned. hair LOSS Up until 2 months ago I would have said no but I continue to see more and more strands falling out. I have thick hair and recently cut it short so I really can't tell exactly how much, but I know my bathroom counter and shoulders are covered when ever I get done doing my hair. VOMITTING Only once at the very early stages when I probably shouldn't have been eating what I was eating (bourbon marinated salmon). But a lesson quickly learned. SOUL food I still cook and enjoy this food just no where near in the quantities that I use too. I explained to my in laws nephews mother father and sisters and they all seem to adapt well. I still catch them staring every now and again, but I think they are still just amazed to see the "old me" coming through. These are just a few things that I have come across since my surgery, I also live down south so I still gets some strange looks after I tell people that I have had the surgery. Please feel free msg me if you have any more questions. Ms. TVirg
  2. OK guys so here is the deal; I was getting on here a lot and I would always go and check out the fitness section to see if any of our "elder" VSG'ers had any tips on a good workout. Well I got a little frustrated because rarely would I ever see any new post and the ones I did see didn't really pertain to excersise. So with that said here is my proposal, after much research my husband and I have decided to order P90 (not P90X) the less advance version. LOL. It is three months long but I was checking out Youtube and the reviews on amazon and they both give some amazing testimony. I would like to see who wants to participate and this way we can hold each other accountable, we don't have to be on same days but yet be working towards to same goal. If this sounds like something you would like to do respond and send me a private message letting me know your start date. We will be purchasing it within the week and will start right after it arrives. I hope there are more people out there like myself who want to do this and see some amazing results at the end. We have taken such a huge and drastic step to get healthy, why not go one step further and lets look amazing in the process. I can't wait to hear from you. Very Respectfully, Nellybell

Anyone up for a P90 challenge

Good deal. I also did Curves while I was living in Cali and really enjoyed it. I have to be up so early now that I prefer to do something in my home so as not to talk too much time away from my soon to be 4 year old and hubby. I also enjoyed doing turbo kick boxing I felt so strong afterwards. Please look into the P90 and let me know what you think, but regardless congrats to you and keep up the good work. Tinel
  4. Hello all, Last time I posted I was at a stall. This time I am posting because guess what....I am at another stall. I am at 200.0 and have been for about 2 weeks and just can't seem to get down, I am starting to incorporate more excersize, and could use some advice for getting more protein in. As always any and all suggestions are welcomed. Thanks. Nellybell
  5. Ok guys so here is my deal, I was sleeved on August 27, 2010, I ended up spending two nights in the hospital due to pain control. I got out on Sunday after rough (and I mean rough) Monday and Tuesday I woke up Wednesday feeling like I could conquer the world. I decided to see how some food would go down so I made my nephew a frozen burrito and cut the tail end off; it went down fine. Later on I walked past a tray of fish sticks I ate two and they went down with little trouble too. I am worried that this this my make it a bit harder to me to lose weight, I know that the surgery is a tool but after reading over some of the stories that others post about being on a liquid diet for two or three weeks post op if I am hindering myself by finding out this information. Thanks for any and all responses. Tinel
  6. Hello, I am a post sleever and was having terrible migraines pre op, especially doing the diet. Since the surgery I have only had one (but I work nights and it is usually from lack of sleep). The first thing I noticed was even though I wasn't eating and wasn't hungry I still didn't have any migraines. Let me know if this helps. Tinel C. Virgil
  7. Hello, It's funny that you would ask that quesiton because the first thing I told my husband after I was fully awake was that this pain was worse than my C-section. That is the only thing I could think to compare it too. But keep in mind that everybody's pain tolerance is different. Another thing that I found hard to deal with was the fact that they were giving me too much pain medication. I would be in pain would ask for pain medication they would bring it late then want to give me morphine or dilaudid which was just too much. On top of that they gave me a PCA. I was climbing the bed with every click. I finally told them that I wanted the pain medication that they were sending me home with once I got that everything was fine. Good Luck. Tinel
  8. Help, I don't know if it is too early to say this but I feel like I have stalled and am not losing weight. I am 19 days out from my surgery and am down 22 pounds (10 preop). And I can't seem to get past this hump, I am on the treadmill 30 minutes a day and feel like my calorie intake should be low enough for weight loss. Any suggestions on how to get pass this hump??? Any and all are welcomed.

    50 + pounds question

Hello, You and I were sleeved the same day and while I lost ten pounds pre-op I have only lost 8 pounds post-op too. I was worried at first but then quite happy I think this slow and steady pace is just what I need to stay focused and ensure that this weight loss is permanet.
  10. I am two weeks post op and feeling great. I do have one problem my neck and shoulder hurt like nobodies business, it is very hard to explain as it hurts not exactly in my neck and not in my shoulder. The pain is not a muscle pain but goes and comes especially when I am moving. And it is only on my left side, it even hurts to breath in and out. I hope it makes since and I really hope someone can give some help with this problem. Thanks.

6 days out already Eating solids

Ladies thanks so much for you quick responses. While I understood the good eating habits and using the sleeve as a tool, but what I wasn't thinking about was the staple ling and ensuring that it had healed completly before putting any "solids" down there. I guess it is back to the Protein shakes for now. Tinel.
  13. hey how is everything going. We are four days post op can I admit that I am feeling miseriable and don't know if I will every recover. How much weight did you get off pre op. Tell me what have you done to help relieve any discomfort you have had? I have notice that I haven't had any trouble with gas. Please feel free to email me at my personal email tinelvirgil@yahoo.com or call 760 2842542 Thanks.

  14. Hey my pre-op date is the 24th of this month. I currently live in Murfreesboro, tn (about 20 miles from Nashville). Dr. Ekels at the Surgery clinic is performing my procedure. I see you live in Los Angeles, I use to live in Palmdale/lancaster and commute to L.A. for work. we moved here about October of last year. How was the process with kaiser to get this procedure done? I ask because I thought about having it done through them when i was living in California. Here in TN it wasn't that bad, I have BCBS federal so what really took the longest for me was the wait time for my appointments.

Well I guess I need to post some pictures so you can at least see who you are talking you. In your pre op appoitment what things did they go over your pre op appointment

  15. Hello,

I saw that your surgery date is the 27th of August and was wondering if you would like to be my partner in the journey. I think it would be great to have someone who is doing the same procedure the exact same day. We could discuss what each of us is going through. Sorry not wanting to sound like a "stalker" I am just so excited as I was only told today my procedure would be on the 27. Thanks again.

  16. Hello, so here is where I am I have been to my seminars, got the approval from my Insurance, now in order for me to schedule my Surgery Date I must lose 10 pounds by Friday. I have started my Protein shakes but don't know if that will be enough to get the weight off. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Second I am 5'2 230 pounds can anyone with my similar stats tell me how their weight loss went (fast, slow, stalling)? I am getting closer to getting this done and while I have done lot's of research I still have many many questions. Nellybell
