Protein Shakes/Bars which is the best kind?

i don't understand any of this. I eat 1 serving of Cream of Wheat + 4 oz of fat-free, sugar-free yogurt every morning for breakfast. (total=170 calories) I don't know why there is any talk of these shakes or breakfast bars which I imagine have too many calories. It is important to eat as you will for the rest of your life. currently 14 weeks post-op, down 67 pounds Follow me at michaelwasfat.blogspot.com for these and other ideas.

3 Days to the begining of my New Life....and Nervous

Let me tell you that being nervous never entered my mind. Also I told as many people as I could because then I could never back out. Go eat a pizza (I did before surgery. my doctor had no restrictions at all!) cause later you won't want to. Lazy in Vegas and Final Weigh In!

GL w your journey. My doctor did not require any pre-op dietary changes. I told him I was going to make the rounds of my favorite piggy troughs and he saw no problem w that. Michael Pickert MD Join me at my external blog at: Michaelwasfat.blogspot.com or email me at michaelwasfat1@gmail.com

    On the right track again

I am 13 weeks post op and have not had any fills at all. I have lost 62 pounds so far and my doctor will not fill unless I stop losing weight. You mentioned some things that struck a discordant note to me: I NEVER eat bread (rarely, some toast) I chew everything to mush, I never guzzle water and most of all I never drink during the meal or for an hour afterwards. A meal should take 30-45 minutes. Please consider all of this. Just some suggestions for you. Learning to be banded.

I wonder why we feel such different things. I am post-op over 3 months (lost 62 pounds) with no fill and I do not ever get hungry. I eat 700-800 calories per day, no bread (except toast, rarely) I cut all my food into tiny pieces and make sure to use a lot of mustard so that it is not dry as I am swallowing. I do not drink anything during my meal or for 1 hour afterwards so that there will be delayed emptying of the pouch. When I get hungry (and NEVER the all-consuming hunger I used to feel) I eat some pickles or a few peppers or have a salad with zero- calorie dressing. Please advise me what you do differently. What if someone knows you are banded?

I am mystified about what you said regarding other people's attitudes. I have not come into contact with anyone, ever, who has been critical of my LB and in fact most are amazed by it. Better luck 2 u in finding less judgmental people. Visit me at my outside blog: michaelwasfat.blogspot.com or write to me at michaelwasfat1@gmail.com

    Why is everyone complaining??

I think people misunderstand what the LapBand is all about. It is, for me, a way to diet and FEEL FULL while doing it. You can't suck down calories like the Lap Band will protect you. Seriously folks get some perspective. For ideas visit my external blog: Michaelwasfat.blogspot.com or email me at :mickp_24@hotmail.com Michael Pickert MD

    Why aren't I sleeping?

My surgeon had no pre-op protocol and I visited my old pastures for the last time. From what I read in these blogs, I feel my surgeon is exceptional. Anyway, for more about what to expect and not just,. pardon the pun, belly-aching about failed expectations, visit my external blog. I am down 55 pounds in 10 weeks For ideas visit my external blog: Michaelwasfat.blogspot.com or email me at :mickp_24@hotmail.com Michael Pickert MD

    It's not a freaking miracle!

I haven't exercised a whit yet though I intend to eventually. However, I track every calorie I eat and I have lost 55 pounds in 10 weeks, without ever being hungry! The LapBand gives me one critical advantage over every other diet I have tried: I get FULL!! Quickly, too. I haven't gone over 800 calories in a day yet. Encouragement needed and questions

I am 9 weeks out, no fill, no hunger. Do you follow the absolute rule of no drinking during or after meal? Furthermore, you must plateau after the first few weeks, but don't worry it is natural. constant concern for progress

have you been counting your calories or just relying on the lap band to do all the work for you? Do you limit your ounces at each meal? Do you avoid all liquids during the meal and for one hour afterward? I am 9 weeks post-op and down 49 pounds so far without a tightening. 25. My 6 week checkup went well, very well. Dr. Abkin who is a unique surgeon in that he doesn't have a set schedule of "tightening" the lapband says I am way ahead of schedule on weight loss: 40 pounds in 6 1/2 weeks. I'm sorry, I didn't say that loudly enough: 40 pounds in merely 6 1/2 weeks. Therefore, there is nothing to do but stay the course at this point. He prefers that I eat 800 calories per day but I am still stuck in the 650-750 range. I shall have to force myself to eat a tad more. Reread that sentence and be amazed, cause I sure as heck am. LOL! What a startling turn of events this is! Then we reviewed a lot of "Can I eat this or can I eat that?" Turns out that those little sweet peppers that taste so good are ok (11 calories each), tomatoes, even with the skin are ok, brussel sprouts yes, asparagus no, broccoli sort of ok (no stems), ditto cauliflower, carrots yes, strawberries yes, crisp apples yes but mushy ones no (skin harder to digest). Popcorn...........YES! "Please chew it well and get the high fiber 94% fat-free brands." "But of course, Dr." Pizza.................YES! YEA! "Just one piece of thin crust, cut into little pieces, chew well and don't do it too often." I saluted, "Yes, sir, Captain Doctor." We then spent a half-hour with his IT person discussing an on-line collaboration. This should help my book sales down the road. Oh yes, that "we" would be my sig-other, Eileen Brenner, with whom I was forced to sign a document by the Dr's office that she had the right to keep me in line during the dieting period. Really! She has been immensely helpful in reminding me not to eat too quickly and take smaller bites. That last one is one of the hardest things to remember. I attribute her help for my not having any "clogging of the pipes" to date. Thanks, HB. (Honey Bunny) Michael Pickert MD follow me at my personal blog: michaelwasfat.blogspot.com
