  1. The unknown is scary to everyone. Before I had surgery, dec 13th, I would have crazy weird dreams and held most of my thoughts and emotions inside. I didn't want my family or boyfriend to worry more. But I was scared. I had never had surgery, well I did get my wisdom teeth removed, I think that may count! So I was unsure of what really was going to happen. I read and still do look at this site daily. It helped me understand what others went through, what I could sort of expect and all of my questions and concerns got answered. I also read the blogs of some people who posted about their experience. Now there were a few things I read that freaked me out but those were not the norm. Each day gets better and better. You can do this. Just try to keep positive.
  2. Thanks, I may need to try that. I just caught a cold so maybe the irritation is part of the cold. I don't know. I'm just taking it all one day at a time!

Any Post WLS People here with FM?

My mom has fm and recently had the rny surgery. She had lost almost 40 pounds preop and stopped taking any pain meds before surgery. She was taking something along the line of vicodin regularly for the pain before losting some of the weight. Since surgery a few weeks ago she has been doing good. She says she still has pain but its more manageable than before. She is even walking at the gym.

    December 2010 Sleevers!

I had my sleeve on Dec 13th. Each day come a different challenge but it has been well worth it! I am still struggling to get in enough protein and I still haven't gotten 64 oz of water yet! But I am down 35 pounds post op for a total of 71 pounds. I have yet to have a stall of more than 2 days, though I am sure one will be coming. How is everyone else doing?

    Irritated tummy

When, or if, you have been nauseous or vomitting and you go back to liquids for a day or so to help calm the tummy back down, do you do clear liquids or full liquids? I have been nauseous on and off for a few days now and have went back to full liquids like soups. But that has not helped the nasuea. So I guess clear liquids is the way to go? I am about 5 weeks out so am supposed to be eating soft foods. Doesn't sound appealing at all. Just the thought of eating makes my saliva glands go into overdrive...in not a good way.
  6. Ugh well it hasn't been the best week but certainly not the worst either. I am back to having liquids as my tummy is irritated. I have been taking my prilosec twice a day so I don't know why it is misbehaving! So onto liquids until it calms down! On a good note, I went to the gym last night. Lifted some weights to tighten up my arms then did 30 mins on the treadmill. I walked really really slow! I get tired very easily! But I slept pretty good last night. Now I just have to keep it up.
  7. Hi everyone! I am 28 and was sleeved on Dec 13th. I have lost 31 pounds post op and 36 pounds pre op for a total of 67. I had been feeling good but overdid it on Sunday after helping lift a dresser upstairs! The surgeon said I was clear to resume all acivities. But now I have been nauseous and in pain since Sunday evening. So I. Am back to having liquids and hope that will help. Oh and some exciting news. I started out in a 3x top and 24 pants. I now can get into an xl top and 16 pants. Yay!
  8. Don't know but at first I thought it was just me! I was looking all over the place!
  9. I am a texture girl and it was weird to have pureed meats or eggs. I tried chicken salad pureed and that tasted fine but as far as texture it is just weird. I also did egg salad pureed. I lived off mashed potatoes mostly, I know bad right, no Protein. But at least I could get it down. Now eating soft foods is super hard! Everything sits so heavy! I have been trying to do mostly protein. I eat one small slice of deli turkey breast and half of a laughing cow cheese wedge and I am stuffed! I can also do half of an egg over easy. Its all an adjustment.

    I'm in the CENTURY CLUB!!!

    Congrats! That is wonderful!
  11. My post op phone calls were with Robin. She basically just wants to know how you are doing, how much water you are drinking, what exercise you are doing, any nausea or vomitting. Things like that. Let me tell you though, I thought pureed was much worse than full liquids! I got to eat an egg over medium today and I was so happy for real solid non pureed food! I had my month check up today and all was well. So I will be on soft foods for 2 months. I eve went shopping today. Fit into a 16 jean and an xl top! The jeans are a tiny bit snug but I will shrink into them! I couldn't stop grinning while trying on clothes! It was great!
  12. I'm 28 and had surgery on Dec 13th. I am so happy that I did this for myself!

    BAY AREA KAISER

LI had surgery at kaiser richmond with Dr. Baggs. Everything went wonderful. I have my 1 month follow up appt tomorrow. I have lost 28 pounds since surgery on dec 13th. After researching the band I decided that there were too many complications and I did not want my intestines rerouted so that left out rny. I went back to work after 2 weeks but I was really tired so did half days the latter part of the 3rd week. Each day and each week I am feeling better and better. There is a kaiser thread under general sleeve discussion with people who have been to richmond or south sf. You should check it out. Good luck!
  14. Wow! You have done really well! I had my first vomitting episode on Saturday because I ate too fast/too much. Ugh. I felt horrible after. Eating slow is something I am trying to work on. Sometimes its easy and sometimes I just want to gobble up my 1/4 cup of food! I have my first checkup this Friday and should get to start on soft foods the same day! Yay! Pureed foods is no fun!
  15. Welcome! I was sleeved dec 13th by dr baggs! How are you doing so far?
  16. Yay! I'm glad everyone is doing well! What a way to start the year! I took my pain meds for about a week. At least at night, I had a hard time sleeping for more than a couple hours at a time.

    Something nagging me

I eat chicken and turkey on occasion before I had my sleeve. No red meat at all though. I don't normally like eggs too much either. I was a little concerned with my protein as well especially since my kaiser doesn't approve of protein shakes. So far chicken sits heavy in my sleeve, when I have done pureed chicken salad, but egg salad pureed was fine. I have had a little milk and did not have any problems. Yogurt and greek yogurt went down easily also. I think that you will do fine. It just takes time to find out what works well for your body.
  18. My nose runs as well. I am not sure why but know that it is my full signal. Once it starts running I can't eat anymore.

    3.5 week update

Well where to start? Overall I have been doing good. Super tired and not getting in enough water which is giving me leg cramps and lightheadedness. I know its an adjustment for my body but being tired all the time sucks! I had a mini breakdown yesterday. I went to my pcp for an afternoon appt. I am suposed to check in with her after surgery and I had some questions on dehydration and incision pain. She basically said to me you did this to yourself. I was like I know I did this to myself thank you. Then she proceeded to tell me that my body is not dehydrated, even though I am drinking about 20 oz a day. Then told me for any other questions to ask my surgeon. So I left. I guess I knew she wouldn't have too much advice as this is not her specialty, but as my surgeon is in a different city I can not just easily go see him. I prefer face to face appt rather then email. Then my boyfriend was mad that I got off an hour early for basically no reason. I was sitting in the parking lot of kaiser bawling my eyes out. I knew I was just frustrated, in pain, thirsty and tired but still. I felt better after my cry. Each day is a new day. I have lost 25 pounds since surgery for a total of 61! I am trying not to nap as much when I get off work so that I can have more time to drink water. Its all a work in progress.
  20. I am so glad that you are doing well! The shower does feel amazing! Try sleeping in a recliner if you have one. For the first 4 days I slept in a big comfy chair with an ottoman. With like a million pillows. That was the only way I could get comfortable.

    Beginning week 3

I have heard it is very common to have a stall around week 3. I was sleeved on dec 13th so I am just one day ahead of you. For the last few days I will lose weight every other day. Our bodies are still processing what we did to them. Try taking your measurements. Some say that inches will fall off during a stall. That way you are still seeing results. Be patient. The weight will come off!
  22. Lisa you will do great! Tomorrow morning will go quickly! Good luck and post when you are feeling up to it!
  23. So I am 3 weeks out and am getting a cold. Coughing and sneezing hurt my stomach near my large incision more now then the first 2 weeks after surgery. Is this normal? I'm a little bit of a hypochondiac so bear with me! Thanks!
  24. I was coughing pretty regularly early out. It helped clear my lungs of all the gunk. It hurt but seems now its a sharper pain. The sneezing is something that has only been happening for a few days. Cold medicine would help, I didn't want to take any though!
  25. You will do great! My mom is in recovery now. Both of you will be walking the halls tonight! Keep us updated!
