Well it has been a little over 5 months since I have had my VSG done. When I went into surgery I weighed 255 pounds. As of this morning I weigh 176.6. Woo-Hoo!!! I have been sick for about a week though and the weight has been coming off super fast because of my illness. For the first two months I lost about 20 pounds a month, then it slowed down to where I was losing about 10 pounds a month, which is fine by me. I have been doing much better with my eating...well not necessarily what I am eating but the amounts I am eating. I was eating too fast or too much and I was getting sick and vomitting a lot. Now I care recognize when I am getting to that too full point. My mind still tells me that I am fat and when I look in the mirror i still see all my flaws. I am trying to get over that though. I fit into size 12 pants and xl tops, sometimes larges. My hair is falling out. I am hoping that this will only last a few more months. I have long thick hair so I don't notice it too much, only when I am brushing it. I have been super bad about taking my vitamins. I have my 6 month check up in a few weeks, so I hope that my labs are okay. I know that I need to take my vitamins I just keep forgetting and I feel good so I think that I don't need them, which I know that I do. I argue with myself all of the time. One day the vitamin taking side will win! Overall I love my sleeve. I will begin working out soon. Once I get over this cold. I am hoping the begining of June. I am going to run in a half-marathon in October. One of my goals!

What is/was everyone's losing plan
hugsamber replied to mjb123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How far out from surgery you are what percentage have you lost? I am 5.5 months out and have lost 79 pounds since surgery and lost 36 pounds pre-op. How many times a day are you eating? I eat 3 times a day. What kind of supplements are you taking? Types and Brands I am very bad with taking my Vitamins. I do not regularly take them. I am trying to change that though. How much Protein are you supposed to be getting and how much are you actually getting in daily and what are your sources of protein (brands of shakes etc), I have never really liked to eat much protein so I get maybe 35-40 grams a day. Sometimes I will do a Premier Protein shake from costco. How much Water you are actually getting down each day Bad with water as well. Normally 40 ozs though. What is your exercise routine, type of exercise, and how often. I just started walking a bit, about 1.5 miles a few times a week. I am stepping up my exercise though starting in June. How is your energy level? I think that my energy level comes and goes. Sometimes I feel like I need to take a nap but other days I can go all night. I am sure that if I ate better and took my vitamins that my energy level would even out. I have realized though by reading everyones replies that I really should be doing much better. I need to be taking my vitamins and getting more protein in! -
It will happen, that scale will go down! Keep positive!

Thanks! You are doing great. 23 pounds in a month is awesome! I know we want changes overnight and trust me, each week you will be getting smaller and smaller, even if it doesn't show on the scale!

You look amazing!!! -
I just turned 29 and have lost 114 pounds so far. When I remember I slather my body in cocoa butter from palmers. I have not really been exercising either yet. I notice a little loose skin. Around the upper arms, a little around the upper thighs and starting to a bit at the belly. I think that if I lotioned more often and lifted some weights it will not be that bad in the future. Fingers crossed of course. I have about 35 more to lose.

What are your makeover plans?
hugsamber replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am down 113 pounds with about 35 to go. So far my skin isn't too bad. I hate my batwings but they are shrinking...my mom had her arms done and I would never do it. The scar is too big and her recovery was a pain. I am most worried about my belly, thighs and boobs! My belly has stretch marks but if the skin starts sagging too much I may have to look into a tt. I worry a little about my upper thighs sagging but I think that I would be too much of a chicken to get that done! Then there is my lady friends who were once a 44dd. Now they are saggy and saggy and sad! They are a 36d but there is no volume to them at all! But again...I can't believe that I actually went through with the vsg surgery, let alone going through anymore operations. I think besides a new wardrobe, once my hair stops falling out I'm going blonde! -
I struggled for awhile and to be truthful, I still struggle. It is just a little easier. For the first 3 months, I would either eat a bite too much, too fast or too big of bites. What happened? Vomitting. My boyfriend started calling me the princess and the puke. I could not get my head around the fact that I could only eat a couple of bites of food. I didn't realize my full signal until it was too late. Though my tummy has gotten a bit bigger or the swelling went down, I am able to eat a bit more. But not much. I can eat one egg and one piece of bacon but sometimes not even that. I'm about 5.5 months out. When I have a cold, my tummy is really sensitive and I vomit easily. I think its the mucus of the cold though. Vomitting is not fun, its not heathly to continue to eat too fast, too much or too large of bites. I think it takes time for us to mentally adjust. I don't think that I have a dangerous problem, I believe that I am still learning how to use the tool I was given. On another note, eating out at restaurants does suck. I have to drink before my meal arrives and then after a couple of bites my boyfriend either finishes it off or I have to take it home. The problem with this is that eating out is social. My friends then talk and drink after dinner but I am too full! I think in time though all things will get easier. I know that every month has gotten better for me.

For me personally, it is so much better. I have lost over 100 pounds in total. I can move better, am more flexible, don't get out of breath and overall I feel more sexual having lost weight. I am not as self consious . My boyfriend has even commented that the sex is much better, like when we first started dating 5 years ago (I am finally the same weight as when we met)!

Northern CA is a lot faster to go through. The process really starts after orientation. You will want to start eating according to the binder and then faster you get to your surgeons goal weight the quicker your surgery will be scheduled. It took me 3 months from start to finish. I had to lose 20 pounds before surgery. I am almost 5 months out and have lost 110 pounds total. 36 pre and 74 post surgery. Maybe I will see you guys at the point west group meetings! -
Oh and my mom had surgery in Jan and she got a room really fast. Her husband also got to stay and he was able to grab one of the chairs that fold out into a recliner (he learned when he stayed with me that they have those chairs in some of the rooms, its first come first serve though). Just make sure to ask the nurse right off the bat about it once you get into your room. My night and morning nurse were super nice. The one that I had right after I got into my room was not that great...but then I was in a lot of pain and she didn't have my pain machine working!!!!

I had surgery in December and it was really crowded that day as well. I was in recovery for 4 hours before they got a bed for me. At first no one was going to stay with me, but my stepfather was able to stay. He was not comfortable because he was sleeping in a chair....but because my roomate wanted her husband to stay the nurses said as long as we both agreed then they could stay. I was super thankful that I had someone there though. I had to go to the bathroom every hour after 9pm. It would have been really hard to call the nurse in everytime in order to help me take off those stockings and unplug my machine. Plus he walked around the halls with my everytime I got up. If you can get someone to stay, I would try...otherwise just make sure the nurse will be there to help.

Its great to hear that you are doing awesome and lovin your sleeve! I am 2 pounds away from having lost 100 pounds total. That makes me so happy! I am a little over 3 months out. I am able to eat most foods. Though rice is difficult for me as well. My hair is thinning big time. Though I should at least be glad that I started with a lot of hair. I have not been taking my vitamins like I should be, so maybe that is why my hair is thinning more! My labs cae back well though from my 3 months. I did not go to my 3 month appt because I coulddnt get off work. Oh well. -
I have finally gotten out of the 200's! Today I weighed in at 199.5! I had tears in my eyes as I ran naked out of the bathroom and was jumping up and down kissing my boyfriend with excitement. Poor guy didn't know what hit him. When I started this journey I weighed 291 in Spetember 2009. I lost 36 pounds during my pre-op, so for surgery on December 13, 2009 I weighed in at 255. So far I have lost a total of 91 pounds. I still have about 55 more that I would like to lose. But it is amazing on how great I feel now. My back doesn't hurt, my knees don't ache. I can actually run on the treadmill and not feel like I am going to die. Overall I feel amazing. I feel pretty and I haven't felt that way in a long time. Here are some before, during and now pictures.

I like vitamin water zero. But all of the flavored waters are way to sweet. I dilute them with water and then they are perfect. -

Everyone is doing so well! My weight loss has slowed down but I am still losing 2-3 pounds a week. I am at 203.9! So close to getting into onederland! I have a hard time eating turkey, like from the deli. I also admit that I am still eating too fast and get sick a couple of times a week. My tummy is still very restrictive but luckily as long as I eat slow, I can eat most foods. Next week will be 3 months. Crazy how it seems like it has been much longer.
