Taking Medicine with Food
Caliblonde replied to Caliblonde's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I spoke to a pharmacist and we determined that I can take the pill with Water and then eat afterwards. I don't think it was the yogurt that made me ill, I think it was drinking after I had a bunch of food in my tummy. Switching it around the other way totally solved the problem. My fever is down to 99.9 and I'm feeling like I'm on the mend. Thanks for your suggestions though -
Buyers remorse ... not losing weight and kind of sad ...
Caliblonde replied to Sunny702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Slow down and breathe! Your body just went through a HUGE shock. It can take time to start dropping...plus, you've lost 1/2 pound a day since surgery. That's awesome weight loss. My surgeon told me that I should expect to lose between 15 and 30 pounds the first month...which you're right on target! Weight loss also has a lot to do with how much you started with. You don't say what your starting weight was, but if you're on the lower end and don't have that much to lose to start with then your weight loss is going to be slower. Give yourself a break! -
Getting ready for surgery....
Caliblonde replied to readingteacher's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my surgery 4 months ago. Getting down to a healthy weight will likely lengthen your lifespan tremendously. My mom said something amazing to me and I don't think I'll ever forget it. She said, "If you had cancer and surgery was the only way to fix it you would do it in a heartbeat and not even think twice. Having this surgery is going to save your life and allow you to live the way you want to". I know being nauseated and lightheaded is no fun. You may experience those things after surgery but they typically aren't due to lack of calories, they are due to Vitamin and electrolyte deficiencies. I was feeling pretty ill starting my third week after surgery. Fortunately, it was very easily corrected and I haven't had any problems since. Just keep talking to your surgeon and call the office if you have any questions. I am sooo incredibly happy that I had this surgery. Being 114 pounds down has given me so much more energy and I can do things that I haven't been able to do in over four years. It's amazing and I wish you all the best! -
My primary care doctor said absolutely not ever again because there just isn't enough space in the stomach to dilute it safely.

extra skin anyone??????
Caliblonde replied to kalyssa8392's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After you lose all your weight you will probably have some loose skin. My doctor told me that it can take 1-2 years after being at a stable weight for skin to tighten back up. Just be patient -
Try two protein shakes per day and one meal. That worked really well for me.

HELP.! Im starting to get really SCARED for my health... :(
Caliblonde replied to imnotfat_momsayimchubby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had trouble with constipation a couple of times since surgery (more than 4 days without a bm), and I needed to go but was not able to. My surgeon recommended that I use a glycerine suppository. He told me not to use it all the time and to try taking milk of magnesia first, but that if the milk of mag. didn't work then to go ahead and try the suppository. It worked within 20 minutes. I don't think it's a problem to use a laxative every once in a while, just try not to use it consistently because of dependency. -
Protein Drink Recipes

Here is the link to the post you're referring to. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/5906-a-huge-list-of-protein-drink-recipes/ You can get to it under the main forum page. Under the food and Nutrition section there is a sub forum for Protein Drinks/Powders, it is the second pinned topic. Hope that helps you out -
That sounds delicious! Thanks for sharing.

RNY VS VSG @ Kaiser
Caliblonde replied to Driver Deb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The doctor I saw at Kaiser told me that I would be having the RNY because of my weight and that I would have to have a really good reason to get the VSG instead. I went to the surgeon and he said that he felt the sleeve would be the better option for me and he was right. Also, some people do experience dumping with sweets after the sleeve. -
I KNOW I'm not supposed to compare my weightloss to others buuuuut.....
Caliblonde replied to Sunny702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You said you tried fat free cottage cheese...at this point you don't need to worry about calories because of the teeny tiny amount of food that you're consuming. I went for the 4% or 2% cottage cheese. I loved the little single serving cups (I could eat about half). I know you said you didn't like yogurt, but have you tried greek yogurt? I didn't really like it at first, but forced myself to keep eating it because it was easy on my stomach and now I love it. If you can do beans then refried beans are fantastic! Also mashed potatoes (add extra liquid to make them runny and maybe make them with milk to give you more protein). -
Diarrhea is pretty normal when you're on full liquids. My surgeon said to call if I was having 8-10 bouts of diarrhea per day but other than that just keep sipping to prevent dehydration. In the beginning food isn't as important as getting in your fluids to stay hydrated.

What are you drinking your water out of???
Caliblonde replied to Sunny702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought a 32 ounce bottle of Smart Water and just keep refilling it. I know that I have to finish 2 bottles a day. Makes it really easy. -
I'm officially down 100 pounds!!!!!!!! I'm rewarding myself with a trip to Portland to visit a friend.

I was required by my insurance company to lose 10% of my starting weight in order to qualify for surgery. I lost a total of 40 pounds prior to surgery. The last 10 pounds I lost in the 3 weeks prior to surgery. My surgeon required me to be on an all liquid diet for 2 weeks, but I started a week early. I drank 2 Protein shakes per day and ate Soup for dinner. I was on a clear liquid diet for the final 24 hours before surgery.

Sutures sticking out?
Caliblonde replied to itscometothis's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
That happened to me when I had my gall bladder out and I spoke to a friend who is a surgeon and she told me to take a pair of tweezers and gently pull on them and they should come right out....however I'm not a doctor so I would ask your doctor or surgeon before doing this! -
I'm so excited for you, congratulations!!!

Halloween (Oct. 31) - What will you Weigh?
Caliblonde replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm going to jump on this bandwagon too! SN............SW.............CW............GW..........Lbs to goal caliblonde....444........344..........319............25 -
I'm so excited, I got on the scale this morning and it said 349!!!! I weigh less than I did when I got married!!!!! I've stalled out a few times, but I try really hard not to stress about it because I know the weight is going to keep coming off. I focus on Protein and Water and fill in with good carbs and some veggies. My favorite meal these days is a scrambled egg with sauteed onions, mushrooms, and spinach with some seasonings - delicious! I also found out this week that I actually can exercise (haha). I've been avoiding it because exercise has always equaled pain in the past. But I've walked several miles in the past couple of days and I feel great!
