I was told that I would have diahrea. In fact the nurse warned me that you may think it's just gas and oops...you get the picture. As far as removing the drain, it does not hurt and is actually very fast. That put a gauze pad over it just in case it leaks a little and by the next day you have a scar. I was never so happy to get rid of something as I was witn that thing!

hurts to take a deep breathe?
staceybea replied to MeMeMEEE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had that also and luckily my nurse had told me about this beforehand. She said during surgery gas can move into other places of your body. I tried to walk it out over the week and then took Gas-X also. I am 2 1/2 weeks out and it is gone now. -
I was sleeved on 08/16/11 and will be going on a cruise on 11/01/11. We have a steakhouse reservation on the 2nd night of the cruise at a cost of $30 per person. That will be about 10 weeks out from my surgery date. I am not expecting to eat a 6 oz steak but would like to enjoy some of the meal. Will I be able to enjoy this meal or should I cancel??

Should I keep the reservation??

Thanks everyone! Fortunately I do have a son and husband who will gladly eat my leftover filet mignon. However, I had not thought about being restricted from red meat so I will check with my doctor first as well. -
Told a patient I had a VSG today....

I would have appreciated hearing it as well. In fact, when I went for my pre-op, the nurse who took care of me had RNY 10 years ago and lost over 200 lbs. It gave us a common ground and I felt trust. -
I was sleeved on 8/16 and having the same problem. I used to drink about 120 ounces of water a day and right now I can barely get in one 16oz bottle per day. I'm worried that I am not drinking enough and this could cause problems.

How bad is your gurgle and can you control it?
staceybea replied to DoOver's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was posted on the 16th and am having this same experience. Yesterday while in the office it was so louded that some may have thought I was passing gas...very loud and very embarrassing. I am not taking any meds, is a PPI a med and does it help? -
Thanks everyone, I'll take your feedback seriously!!

I was sleeved on 8/16 which is only a little over two weeks out. I stuck with only liquids until the the 25th when I tried mashed potatoes. They went down okay but I only ate about half of a single serving size. I am having no problems with jello or applesauce and was even able to tolerate a few bites of well chewed macaroni and cheese. Lastnight I was also able to handle a few bites of well chewed spaghetti. I've tried the pureed soup and just cannot do it. My nutrition plan says that I would do week 1-2 full liquid and weeks 3-4 pureed. Is it bad for me to skip pureed and move into well-chewed soft foods if my stomache can tolerate it? Any advise is greatly appreciated!!

AM I EATING TOO MUCH??
staceybea replied to LANENADELCACHEL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do mashed potatoes but I add in 1 scoop of Beneprotein which gives me 6g of protein. I also only eat about 3 ounces. -
I was sleeved on Tuesday and the pain is getting better day by day. However, when I breathe I literally have to stand still and hold the left side of my stomache. There is a sharp pain through my stomache and my shoulder simultaneously. Anyone experience this before?

Can I use that if I still have my drainage tube? -

Thanks for the response...good to know it will go away soon. -
I was sleeved on the 16th and am taking the Bariatric Advantage chewables. I absolutley cannot stand the taste of the cherry multi-Vitamin. It is far too tart and makes me cough. But I paid for them so I will take them. This morning was my first time experiencing nausea which was after my carnation instant breakfast but I had combined in with my blood pressure med, baby aspirin, and another med. I have learned and will now space those out a bit.

diahrrea after surgery?????
staceybea replied to ScentsyLady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the 16th also and having the same problem. When passing gas I have to go to the bathroom 'to be safe' cuz I just don't know if it's going to be gas or diahrrea. The nurse told me to expect this so luckily I was forewarned. -
I had my surgery on Tuesday at noon and came home yesterday at 2pm. I'm not going to lie, it was and still is very painful. It turns out I had a Hiatal Hernia that the doctor repaired as well. I seriously cannot remember hardly anything at all from the day surgery bay and until I arrived in my room later in the day. Throughout that evening I pretty much stayed on the morphine and finally got up and walked late Wednesday. It's been difficult to find a good sleeping position but soon enough that will change. All in all, I am glad the surgery is over and now I can begin my weight loss journey!

Tomorrow is my surgery and I cannot wait! Today I've been on all clear liquids after taking the Citrate Magnesium. Really has not been too bad. It's been two months and 3 days since my first visit with Dr. Guske and I am just thrilled to start my new life tomorrow!

I just cannot believe how quickly I was able to get through this whole process. My first appt was on June 13th and I received a call on Friday with my surgery date of next Tuesday August 16th. I am so excited and cannot wait to start my new life! After losing 80 lbs during 7 months with a dietician to gain back 40 of it in 2 months I was ready for permanent change and now it's almost here. I am on day 2 of my meal replacements and so far I am just doing the protein shakes with milk and no add-ins. Really not that bad. 7 day countdown has begun!!

Having surgery in 1 week any words of wisdom ?

Thank you...I am a week away also and although my worry has been in the very back of my mind, it helps to hear positive encouragement! -

I'm so excited, after being denied by insurance last week we sent in a bit more info and I received my approval today. Can't wait to have a date on the calendar!

Decision has been made to have Gastric Bypass and I am 99% sure I am going with Sleeve. I attended a seminar about 5 years ago and again last month and I am ready to proceed. I have been overweight my entire life and in October 2009 at a weight of 281 and a BMI of 49.8 I started attending a weight loss clinicand by May 2010 I dropped 80 lbs and felt great. Sadly once I ended my treatments I packed 40 lbs back on in only a few months. At a cost of $55 a week I cannot continue this long term nor do I want to rely upon shots and pills the rest of my life. So therefore I have decided to pursue surgery. I attended the seminar pretty much set on Lap-Band but then when I kept hearing about having the mindset of reversal I thought to myself, this needs to be a permanent life change! Luckily I think I am pretty set with my 6 month dietary history already and I will be attending my consultation on Monday. I am hoping to have the surgery by December if not sooner and am looking forward to using this site for support and encouragement!
