Latin Pork was not in the works today- I pulled chicken out of the freezer, PSA- mark and date all freezer bound Items- :conehead: Tonight- chicken, 1/4 red and green bell pepper diced, onion diced, 3 cloves garlic crushed, 2 red potatoes, handful scallions chopped small, 12 mini carrots diced. 1 can cream chicken Soup, no salt added, low fat yada-yada... 1/2 can Water. dashes of italian spices, black pepper. I have some sour dough bread sticks to go with it. I have been feeding and working with a starter since mid Dec., I started it off the drags of one of my wines. -
Back in November My wife and I decided to make Holiday baskets for friends. One of the gifties was Raspberry vinegar. We started out with fresh raspberries and a gallon of white vinegar. I let them soak for a month then strained it and also filtered through a double coffee filter. We bottled them and gave it away, (along with numerous other edible things) We have four bottles left over, and one day I found what looked like the paper seal floating on top. As I picked it up to look closer, I see there is a cloud of floaties. I quickly googled- worried I had given people something bad, though knowing it was 75% vinegar- can't be that bad... I learned I had a living culture- similar to a scoby found in Kombucha. Called "mother of vinegar" Today I triple filtered the four bottles, saving the rafts. I took the "mother" and dropped it into a clear gallon jug, along with left over red wine. I have a half gallon of red wine, various bottles from tastings, and bottling my home made wine. In a month or so I will have home made vinegar.

MmMm Beef... how ya gonna seSON IT? TRADITIONAL MIDDLE EASTERN, American, Latin??? Tonight while at dinner with my bride, my phone rang, it was my son, he asked, how to make chicken tagine. 1 800 call the chef here I sit in a restaurant explaining how to cut food/season and cook in a tagine. interesting huh? btw- my burrito was fantastic- cut it at the 2/3 line- ate 1/3 took 2/3 home. It had whole Beans in it- I was wanting some comfort food (bad day at work along with cold weather) however the refries have oil in them... I opted for black beans being no oil and a healthier choice- I am really liking to be able to eat normal foods again... been a while since I was able to eat some things- as long as it is oil free and not starchy- I am able to eat... my portions go in waves- one meal is large,( about a cup) next I can only eat 1/2, even if I was hungry... kinda weird- such is life with a sleeve... -

Hi Jackie, I have not used a D/O in this way, I would think it would be close. Back in the 70's, clay pot cookery was a rage, My Auntie used to make some fine chicken stew. I am sure it is all the same, just a regional thing, size and shape. Ok- I just did a quick google- uh- wow! apparently a lot of opinions on this- some say why add another thing to the arsenal, others say it's the only way... since we didn't have a clay cooker, nor a dutch oven, I am glad I gave this to my wife for Christmas. -

Halloween (Oct. 31) - What will you Weigh?
chef neil replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all! Today I rode my bike 55 miles... I had surgery back on june 13th. I am 100 pounds down from the start and feeling great! although I still have dizzy spells, not as much, and still have troubles with foods. the good news is- I was at the gym and rode for 30 minutes or 10 miles on their bike- then did 30 miles on wed. took two days off from exercise, still worked, and then today rode 55 miles through the wine country of Nor-cal- great weather, great friends, and a loving family... so tomorrow is my Bday and I weighed in at 225# today- pre ride- probably lost 4 pounds, but have been hydrating all afternoon... even though I drank 48 oz. on the bike. the ride was fun, easy, and had about a 15 mph average. I finished as strong as I started. big change from a year ago- did same ride and darn near collapsed after... -
Hi- I have had dizzy spells from week 2 till present- things are better, at 3 months out- when ever I get dizzy now- I sit and drink, and then have some protein too. lately I have been almost meal time and hot (been working out side) so I can;t figger it out, dehydration or needing protein...
-
Hi- it is easy to eat yogurt- I barely remember 2 weeks out... I think I was eating 2 oz. but then again- I was having troubles eating anything. 4-6 oz. is my daily lunch- I stick with greek yogurt only with no added sugars. after my bike ride yesterday- I'm 3 months out and did 21 miles with an avg. 18.4 mph. I had a 3 oz. choc. greek yogurt- not my fav. but a nice size snack.

Have you thought about your goal weight?
chef neil posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi- I am 3 months out from surgery and many of my troubles are fading away- dizziness very seldom- Doc. and I think it's dehydration issues. eating/vomiting- yea- sometimes- sticking to ground and soft Proteins for a bit longer.. The question in my mind now- and one I never thought about, or have heard much talk about is- What do you do when you hit goal weight? How do you eat? The classes all prepared us for pre op diet, the surgery, then the stages after surgery, and WHAM! I am quickly approaching goal weight- 35 pounds left and now am wondering, how do I stop losing weight? will body automatically know when to stop? what if my weight I chose in my Head, isn't what my body wants?? I know not to go grab a cheese burger and fries- but considering my limited menu now- it would be hard to add in cals. to become stable. I never have had this issue- and I may be over thinking this, but somebody has got to remember, know of, or been through it... -
How are you doing with your weigh loss, exercise, diet, etc.? HiYA! I am doing well- I still have issues eating, can't nail it down- why? greasy? or starchy foods? Oh well- so I feed the bushes, guess it could be worse... I worked outside today on my wines- it was hot! I had two dizzy spells- been doing real good on that- coulda needed more water or protein- I took a break and had both- gonna work a 1/2 day and make the trek to SSF tomorrow- Lost 87#- seems I lose more on my days off then days I work- wife thinks it is because I eat more on days off... neat concept? I have been walking and riding my bike- also started lifting weights. My pains- are GONE! no leg/feet/hip pain- not taken a tylonol or anything harder... since first week home...

Halloween (Oct. 31) - What will you Weigh?
chef neil replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi- I am in! not only does this end on my Birthday but last several years I have made great strides in weightloss by my day- we celebrated with a 50 mile bike ride that morning- I have had up to 24 people join me... 5 years running now... open invite to anyone that wants to join me this year!!! 50 miles through the wine country, during the best time- harvest. the colors and smells are incredible! this year I would like to be at goal- will I ? I don't know... on my cycling forum, we have a 52 day challenge- eat clean, exercise and loose weight- it ends 10/31 too. I will work on exercising daily and drinking more liquids.... the eating is a given.... It doesn't matter what I weigh in at... this year, no matter what- I am at my lowest in 35 years. -
+1 for the WF team member that helped you I have been eating prunes, taking benefibre, a stool softener, and adding ground flax seed to my morning shakes... I tried MOM. and besides yukkie... no affect... I then started the once a day miralax- thanks to a suggestion here... AND wow- I am regular.. Thank You! somebody also mentioned apple cider vinegar for the 'roids... another TY! I also discovered something new- why do I always get sick at dinner- and mostly when we go out to eat? Water... the only time I drink (sips) during dinner is at a restaurant, and that is when I got sick. besides staying away from bread, and deep fried foods, as well as junkfoods... I stopped getting water at dinner- twice I ate out and no probs... still hold to a very small portion, like 1 egg and 1/2 piece of toast or 1 taco. hope this helps somebody...
