Hi All, My name is Toyia and I hope to have surgery in July. I am having some issues with my referral and the doctor's long wait list. I would love to have a mentor or buddy to help me through this emotional journey. If anyone is interested please let me know. We can help support each other. Thanks for reading, T

Hi All, I had my sleeve three weeks ago. My doctor gave me a new list of foods that I can include in my diet – eggs, tofu, fish (baked, broiled), sea food (no shrimp or crab cakes) and soft cheeses. (I am glad that I don’t have to put my food in a blender.) He said that I need to get in 70 grams of Protein and 30 grams or less of carbohydrates. What carbohydrates can I eat? Does this mean that I can have veggies or fruit or mashed potatoes? Can some veteran sleevers please share some of their meal ideas and recipes with me? Thanks in advance, Toyia

I am in the same boat. The first few months after sugery, everyone keep telling me how good my skin looked and that I had a glow. Now, I have acne on my forehead and cheeks. The acne on my cheeks hurt and I hate it. I hope this will be over soon.

Vitamins and Carbohydrates?
Toyia replied to Toyia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the information. I think I will stop using the gummies when they run out and move to the pills. Mr. Mike, I feel the same way that you feel. I am happy as long as the scale is going down and not up. I feel so much better. I am able to walk long distances, I have more energy. I just feel like a new person. If my doctor would not have given me the goal to lose 15 lbs in one month, I really wouldn't care. My doctor is very strict and he doesn't sugar coat anything. When I told him that my body had a 3 week stall, and the scale was just starting to move again and I hoped to do better next month. He basically told me (not his exact words) that the information about the stall was bull. He has hundreds of patients and they all lose weight if they follow his guidelines. The info about the stall was just an excuse or people trying to make you feel better because you didn't lose anything. He told me that I will lose most of my weight during the first 6 months. So, I need to work as hard as I can to get the most weight off now. If I don't get the weight off the only person that will lose is myself. I have mixed feeling about our talk, because I was so stressed going in for my visit. I wasn't sure what he would say or do, and I wasn't sure what I was doing wrong or why I wasn't losing weight. I was looking on the message boards and talking to people in my support group. It seemed like having a stall was perfectly normal. My doctor doesn’t like nutritionist and doesn't think I need to visit one. But, I just feel like this is all new, and I have so much to learn. How am I suppose to get the help I need. Like talking to him for a few minutes and I found out something that I was doing wrong -such as egg salad (he told me to eat the egg alone and not to make egg salad, it adds too many calories) and the carbs in Vitamins. I have Kaiser and I had to meet with a nut for 6 months and take classes, but I didn't have my surgery until almost a year after those classes. Now, that I had the procedure and I am learning to work my sleeve I still need guidance. Anyway, I know I am starting to rant. I am only 7 weeks out, I am down 47 lbs. I am happy...but I know I still have a lot to learn. Toyia -
On Friday, I had my 7 week check in with my doctor. My goal was to lose 15lbs in one week…but I only lost 5 (I was 202 lbs.). So, we talked a little about the things that I have been eating and one of the things he told me to check was the carbohydrates in my Vitamins. So, I went home and looked and he was right, I am taking in 15 grams of Carbs each day just from my vitamins. I am taking the following gummy items: multi-Vitamin, Fiber, and D3. I also talk a chewable Calcium and B12. I am only allowed 30 carbs per day and I have to get in my vitamins. So, I need some help, what type of vitamins, calcium and B12 are you talking and how many carbs are they? On a side note: When I steeped on the scale at home today I was 198 lbs. I guess my stall is overJ this week. The scale didn’t move for 3 weeks. Then this week, I am down 9 lbs. Thanks in advance, Toyia

That was my error. My doctor wanted me to lose 15 lbs in one month. I only lost 5. Toyia -

When I had my one week follow-up with my doctor, I only lost 3 lbs. Don't worry; your weight will come off in time. Don't try to compare yourself to other people; each person body will react to the surgery a different way. Right now, I am having a 3 week stall.

6 weeks out and hungry!
Toyia replied to emmas mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 7 weeks out and I have the same issue. I eat every 3-4 hours. I eat protein each time. I am on a PPI. I haven't lost any weight in 3 weeks. I wonder if it's because of all the small meals. -

August 2011 sleevers get in here!!!!!!
Toyia replied to blackmikeg's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on Aug. 8th. I am down 19 lbs since surgery. I am in a 3 week stall right now. I hope things change soon. So far, I have been able to eat everything that I have tried. I still get hungry but not as often as I use to. I am able to drink and I don’t have to sip, sip, sip. I am on soft foods. I spend most of my day eating, drinking, or taking vitiams…but I am still having a hard time getting in my Protein. I hate Protein shakes. I didn’t have a problem pre-surgery…but now I can’t take them. They all make me feel sick. I walk 30 mins a day and I just started playing and working out using my Xbox 360. I feel so much better when I exercise, but it’s still hard for me to get started. I still have some pain on my left side, but it is getting better every day. I like to wear things that support my stomach – such as spanx. I am just starting to feel like my old self again. I don’t feel smaller, but my family tells me that I look younger and they can see it in my face. I am already starting to see a difference in my health, my high blood pressure meds have been reduced and I think I will be off all of my pills soon. I love my sleeve and I will be so happy when my stall is over. I am 6 pounds away from onederland. I didn’t know that August sleevers had a weekly check in thread, I am going to have to check that out. -
Buyers remorse ... not losing weight and kind of sad ...
Toyia replied to Sunny702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Sunny702, I have a similar situation. Pre surgery I lost 20 lbs. I had my surgery on 8/8/11 at my 3 week check up I lost another 19lbs. I haven’t lost one pound in 3 weeks. I am supposed to go back to the doctors on 9/30/11 and my doctor wanted me to lose another 15 lbs. I am a little stressed because the scale has not moved. I don’t think I would be stressed if my doctor didn’t give me a goal. I wouldn’t feel too bad if he told me to lose 15lbs and I was down 10lbs…but I haven’t lost a single pound. I hope this stall ends soon. Toyia -
At 3 weeks out, I started with eggs…all kinds of eggs – scramble, over medium, hard boiled eggs. I eat a lot of tuna salad with and without eggs, egg salad, crab salad (I like to make devil eggs and stuff them with the crab salad), cottage cheese with a little bit of pineapple juice, , Re-fried Beans with salsa and Greek yogurt. I can also eat seafood as long as it’s not fried.

How many weeks out do you need to be to eat a Protein bar? Thanks, Toyia

Thank you. Toyia

Thank you very much... Can you eat cottage cheese with fruit or do you have to eat it alone. I didn't know I could have refried Beans or noodles... Thanks for the tips. Toyia

Hello, I was sleeved on 8/8 and I have had two NSV yesterday that I wanted to share: 1. My sister was away during my surgery and when she came to see me she said I look like one of my high school pictures. I am starting to look younger…Yea!!!! 2. Yesterday, I went for a walk with my husband and after the walk we sat in the love chair on the front porch. A few weeks ago, we would not have been able to fit. I don’t have a tracker…so I will share my stats: I started out at 245, I was 225 the day of surgery and I am 209 now. Thanks for reading, Toyia

Thank you all. I am so excited to see what's next for me and my sleeve. Toyia

Hi, I think each person is different. Before my surgery I kept reading post from people that went back to work about 2 weeks after surgery. So that's what I planned to do. But, I am going to be out of work for 3 weeks and 2 days. I ended up with a lot of swelling after surgery and my one night stay in the hospital turned into 6 nights. You just never know. If I would have contacted HR first, I could have used my short term disability leave (starts after being out of work for 2 weeks-but you only get 66 and 1/3 % of your pay) and I could have saved some of my PTO. If you are going to be out more than two weeks, you should check with your HR department about FMLA and short term disability leave. Toyia

Hi, I wouldn't use anything until the drain is out. Sorry, my drain was removed on 8/17. Toyia
