  1. I would really look at the fat free things you are eating. A lot of that is loaded with sugar. They put more sugar in fat free items to make them taste better after they take away the fat. I agree with everyone else, you need to be eating Protein. Have you met with a nutritionist?

Also, if you try to relax and not stress out your blood sugar should go down. Stress can make your blood sugar go up. Take a deep breath and try to relax as much as possible. Do what you can...if your surgery is postponed then there is a reason for it. Deep breaths....

  2. You sound dehydrated. I am 10 days post op and I needed to get 2 bags of Fluid today. I can keep everything down but I just haven't been able to drink what my body needs. I went to my PCP and she is the one that sent me to get fluids. I feel so much better! Can you try going to your PCP instead of your surgeon? I hope you can get some answers.

  3. Awww...I'm sorry you have to go alone but you can do it! I would come to the hospital to be with you if I didn't live in WI! You will be ok and the nurses will be there to take good care of you. You will be tired after surgery so you will be sleeping a bunch anyway.

I, too, felt overwhelmed with the amount of info I needed to learn. I am getting better now that I am 10 days out. You get used to things and figure out what you can have and when you can have it. A lot of it has to do with how your new sleeve feels. You'll get the hang of it.

If you have a laptop to take with you to the hospital you can talk us while you are there.:D

  4. I did used to run out of breath easily with my asthma, especially when I worked out. About a year ago I started working with a trainer and he really worked on deep breathing and strengthening my lungs. This helped so much! I no longer need to use my inhaler when I work out. My asthma now only acts up when my allergies act up.

  5. Yes I am sure it is just the asthma.Do you use an inhaler now? I really think you will be ok and be able to have the surgery. Think positive thoughts!

I also had a stress test and did fine with it. Even though I am overweight I enjoy exercise and I do/did before surgery, exercise on a regular basis. I might suggest to you to start walking slowly just to strengthen yourself for recovery. I strongly believe I have had such a good recovery bc I was active bf the surgery.

  6. No, not at all. I wasn't "off the charts" as in crazy off the charts. It was more like on the computer there is a line that your breathing/lungs should be in when you breathe into the machine...mine was not quite where it should be on the line. It's hard to explain. So it wasn't that I was way off. I used the inhaler and then I was right where I needed to be.

I really don't think they would cancel your surgery unless you have a lung problem or something. I have asthma so that is why my tests came out the way they did. Do you know if you have asthma? Are you a smoker?

  7. Dr Teng (Las Vegas, NV) is great.

Now I don't have bariatric surgery experience with him. However, he was the surgeon that performed my cholecystectomy in August 2010. He does great, phenomenal work! And I'm not sure this is a big factor to anyone but he is the Chief of Surgery (since 2001) as well as the Medical Director of Bariatrics (since 2006) at his hospital.

I read that sometimes (if not all the time) there are tests run on your gallbladder for stones or something? I'm not sure what this all mean because I'm relatively new. But I think having the same surgeon do both my gallbladder removal and my VSG gives me a continuity of care that nobody else could provide. It may sounds nuts but I want total comfort as I get major surgery done. And as far as I'm concerned, he is the BEST in Las Vegas. No offense to other surgeons but I just feel more at peace with him and his surgical team.

I had to look up what a cholecystectomy is...fancy for having your gallbladder removed! lol

Glad you found a doctor you are comfortable with!

  8. I just got a call from my surgeon's office and they said i have to have a pulmonary function test done, because my spirometer test came back negative or someting?? What happens with a PFT? And if i don't pass will they cancel my surgery?????

I had one of these done. I highly doubt they will cancel your surgery. They need to do it to make sure your breathing is good and your lungs are working good. If they aren't they will do what they can to make it better for you...an inhaler maybe.

You will do some breathing tests by breathing into a machine. The tests are kind of strange but nothing to worry about and it doesn't hurt. This tests how your lungs work. If it all looks good that is all the testing you will need. Mine showed that I was a little off the charts (not sure the medical terms). I then had to use an inhaler and do the tests again. This time they were fine. That showed that during my recovery I would most likely need to use my inhaler to make sure my lungs were working at their best.

I also had to have blood gasses done. Basically they take blood but it is usually taken on the inside of your wrist I think it's through an artery or near an artery. I was so nervous about these bc I have worked in a hospital in the past and have seen these done. I got myself all worked up but in the end it didn't hurt bad at all and it was nothing to get worked up over. Not trying to scare you I just want you to know so you aren't surprised when you get there.

I'm not sure if this is standard all over but this was my experience. Good luck!:D

  9. I think you have to change your focus. I am like you, I love food - it was entertainment and fun. I enjoy cooking and feeding people. Growing up, food was love. But now, we need to fill our soul with other types of joy - exercise, travel, gaming, reading, shopping etc. We will need to find something to fill that void. I am not saying we will never enjoy food again - we will. But finding something to take the main focus off the next meal will be important. I am reading the Emotional First Aid Kit and it really harps on changing your mindset pre and post op.

You can do it! I have faith!

    :cheer2:

For me right now this is hard. I am only one week post op and I honestly didn't realize how much energy and thought would be put into my sleeve as soon as I got home. I am constantly thinking about it...do I have enough to drink...I need to drink....when can I eat again...can I chew gum....what about Vitamins.... All of my focus is my sleeve. I know this WILL get better when I can do my normal activity again. I love to exercise and have always done so even though I am overweight. I can't wait to start again and I know this will take my mind off food. It's just that right now in this moment it's tough. I do know that I'll make it through and so will all of you!

  10. Robin, I am also one week post op tomorrow. I was just going to write a post about this. I am anxious to hear what everyone has to say. I hate feeling this hunger! I keep thinking about food. My family needs to eat so I can't just stay away from the food! It is so hard. I feel like I am grieving my food and it makes me a little sad.

You are correct, this is not easy but I know in the end it will be worth it! Hang in there.

  11. Check out the insurance forum, I have read on that forum that there are some who have appealed and won. When I had insurance that didn't cover the surgery I asked the agent about this on the phone. She said told me that it is the company which the insurance is through that decides if they will cover the surgery, not the insurance company itself. She also said that she had never seen an appeal won if the company had excluded the surgery. I never tried to appeal so I don't know if this is a fact. Good luck to you!

  12. I have a question...not directed to anyone in particular....why wouldn't you want all stories/experiences shared? I know that when I was looking into going to Mexico I searched and searched to read the good and the bad. I needed to hear both sides so that I could make a wise and informed decision. In fact there was someone on here not too long before I left that had a terrible experience in Mexico. She explained all the details and I needed to read that. I needed to know all of it even though it scared me to death. I needed to know what could happen to me and I needed to know that despite all of the bad that can happen to people, from everything I have read, it ends up turning out good in the end. Reading the experience of everyone is what helped me make the decision I made. I don't feel that anything is said on here is meant to scare anyone. Going to Mexico is scary! It seems that everyone does agree that Renee's situation was different, she has said that herself.

Idk, maybe I am just going around and around. It's hard to understand how people are saying things on the internet unless you know them. I think it's hard too bc there is so much respect for Dr. Aceves and I believe he should be respected, he is good at what he does. It hurts us personally when someone else has a bad experience... at least that's how I feel.
