  1. I wouldn't do it, too soon. You are only a week out and your sleeve is still trying to adjust to everything. I am sure it is still swollen and sensitive. I would only stick to the things the doctor/nut has ok'd.

    Coffee and alcohol

When I first looked into the surgery I met with a surgeon around here and the nut. They said that they didn't want me drinking any caffeine whatsoever for the first year. The same was true for alcohol. I have no idea what Dr. Aceves will say but will soon find out. These things are not an issue for me because, I don't ever drink at all, haven't had a drink in many, many years and I rarely drink anything but Water. I love water! Renee, please do not ask me to sneak you a cup of coffee after your surgery! I won't do it!

    Driving

Do you think the wobbly/weak feeling is just from not eating enough protein or your body getting used to everything? Is this a normal feeling to have after surgery?
  7. I told my daughter who is 20 that I was having surgery. She is nervous and totally freaked out when I told her I was going to Mexico. She is scared for me because I am going out of the country. The next things she said was, "You can't be skinnier than me.". I was surprised by that remark. I doubt I will ever be skinnier than her but she is built different than I am so maybe I will be. I think she likes having a fat mom! I have not told my boys yet. They are ages 8 and 11. I am not going to tell them until I get back from Mexico and even then I'm not sure how much I will share with them. I know that if I tell them now they will be so nervous while I am gone, especially my youngest. It's already going to be hard enough to leave them for 5 days and I don't want to have to be concerned that they are worried about me while I am gone. I don't see my lifestyle change being hard on them. The funny thing is that even though I am fat now, I workout like crazy. I see a trainer and workout at the Y and at home so that part won't be different for them at all. As far as eating goes, I make the meals so I don't think my eating habits will even be a noticeable thing to them.

I don't know the answers to your questions but I would suggest first calling your primary insurance and see what they say. Write down all of the questions you have so you don't forget while you are on the phone with them. Then, call your secondary insurance and see what they say. This way you will get the right answers and be able to take the next step. Good luck!
  9. Wow! You look SOOO good! Thanks for sharing the pics!
  10. Wow, what an ordeal! I hope that this bad part of your journey is coming to an end for you soon. Thanks for sharing your story. We all need to hear the good, bad and ugly to be reminded that things can go terribly wrong.

    CRUISING!!!

What a great way to stay motivated! We are going to Disney in October so that is motivation for me but it would be fun to do something like that a year out from surgery. I think I might look into that for my husband and myself! I can hardly wait to go on trips and buy cute outfits and enjoy myself instead of always being concerned about how I look or how much I will sweat!
  12. I also felt like you, no way would I do this in Mexico. Guess what...I'm having surgery in Mexico with Dr. Aceves on the 24th. I can't answer all of your questions yet bc I have not had the surgery but there are wonderful people on here that will answer any question you may have. I had to send in a check for $500 and pay the remainder when I arrive at the hospital. I will be paying $8,750 plus plane tickets. There are surgeons in Mexico who are cheaper and many people have had a wonderful experience with them. You just have to do your research and see which surgeon would make you most comfortable and decide for yourself. I liked the fact that I will be staying in a hospital for 3 days after surgery. Some stay in a recovery house. It's not that one is better than the other, it's what is comfortable for you. Also, call the numbers of the surgeons on the websites. Nina, the coordinator I talk with often, is wonderful and answered so many questions for me and made me feel at ease.
  13. Yay! Congrats on your surgery date! I am scheduled for the 24th and am also feeling excited and nervous all at the same time. Everyone here says that is totally normal to feel this way. Thankfully COBRA was available for you to have this done!

    Woo Hoo!! Wish me Luck!!

Try to relax tonight and get some sleep, I am sure that will be hard. I would rather go first thing in the morning instead of having to wait!
  16. This may seem like a strange question for those of you who have had surgery in Mexico...do you tip the drivers??
  17. I don't have my surgery until the 24th so I'm not sure if it's normal. I was wondering if you have thyroid problems? I know when mine is low that I am freezing all the time till I up my meds. This has happened to me many times when I lose weight, I freeze and have to get my meds bumped up.

Hlep Info on WLS in Mexico

When I first started looking into WLS and found this board I was reading about people going to Mexico to have surgery. I thought to myself that "those" people are crazy! I would never do something like that. Because I thought it was so crazy it intrigued me to keep looking into it. I soon found out that my insurance requirements changed and I would have to wait longer for the surgery along with paying more out of pocket than I had thought. I read so many positive things about Dr. Aceves and that is why I choose him over any other surgeons in Mexico. I also talked to Nina, a patient coordinator, on the phone and I loved how she put me at ease and answered all of my questions. I have read about some other good surgeons in Mx, and I know that some of them are cheaper that Dr. Aceves. This is the decision that I made for myself and I know there are many others out there who have had good outcomes and love their surgeons in Mx. All you can do is look around, ask questions and do what is best for you. Oh, Dr. Aceves is located in Mexicali.
